  • ‘How to migrate’ was the top search result after the election results
  • Pinoys search ways on ‘how to migrate’ after election results
  • People are considering migration

A lot of people were disappointed with the election results, even if some were still unofficial. Their candidates did not win. They also know that some of the candidates who won have a notorious history, politically speaking.

As the unofficial results came, data from Google Trend showed that Filipinos where searching ‘how to migrate’ and ‘migrate’ on the search engines.

Netizens also rationalized this. Some really meant on migrating, but mostly were joking. This shows how disappointed the people are with the results.

The same thing happened when Donald Trump was winning in the 2016 election. Americans were also searching on how to migrate to Canada and other countries.

Maria Ressa, a journalist, tweeted an article about this and netizens had a lot to say about it.

Teddy Locsin then retweeted it saying, “Bebot Bello and I will help. It’s our job. We will expedite.”

“Saan ba sila nagbabayad ng buwis?” Teddy Locsin Jr. fails to answer the question

“Saan ba sila nagbabayad ng buwis?” Teddy Locsin Jr. fails to answer the question

A Chinese related issue again? Nothing new.

A documentary photographer, Ezra Acayan, posted on his Facebook account saying that he ate at a Chinese restaurant in Paranáque but received a receipt written in Chinese.

“Throwback to when I dined at one of the new Chinese owned restaurants that popped up here at Multinational Village here in Parañaque. The food was great, but I wonder why the receipt was in Chinese? Saan ba sila nagbabayad ng buwis, sa Pinas ba o sa China?”.

The main question following the post is whether or not these Chinese businesses that they are referring to are paying their taxes to the BIR?

Teddy Locsin Jr., a renowned politician and the current secretary of foreign affairs, retweeted the post, and the way netizens see it, appears that he defended the Chinese side of the story.

“Most of their customers are Chinese here for the jobs no Filipino can take unless she/he is fluent in Mandarin—online gaming. C’mon, are we so weak a race and culture that we can’t have strangers speaking in strange tongues in our midst—like New York at the turn of the century?” Locsin said.

It sounds like he tried to ignore the question of whether the Chinese restaurant was paying taxes.

Netizens had a lot to say about his response.

But according to one twitter user, the same situations was found in the US, and Americans don’t even complain.

There is still no answer to whether or not the restaurant pays to the BIR.

Samira Gutoc slams Teddy Locsin Jr. for saying she ‘doesn’t know’ peace issues

Samira Gutoc slams Teddy Locsin Jr. for saying she ‘doesn’t know’ peace issues

  • Locsin has allegedly “traded” his principles to support Duterte
  • “If you think rape jokes and violence quips have nothing to do with peace, then I rest my case.”
  • Duterte’s rants against Catholic bishops are not alleviating the peace problem either

Samira Gutoc, a Maranao civic leader and former member of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission, hits Foreign Affairs secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. for having unfavorable remarks against her on Twitter.

It was on Samira’s Twitter account where a report that President Rodrigo Duterte is part of the peace problem was posted. She meant that Duterte’s rants against Catholic bishops are not alleviating the peace problem, even before the bombing incident in Jolo, Sulu.

“Naririnig natin sa TV at sa radyo ang mismong Pangulo na nagsasabing saktan, nakawan, at patayin ang mga Obispo. Direkta ang mga atake ng Pangulo sa simbahang Katoliko. Mr. President, kasali ka sa problema,” she said.

According to her, considering that Duterte has publicly attacked the Catholic religion, this has possibly influenced the perpetrators to execute consecutive attacks in Jolo and Zamboanga.

“So, sinasabi ko na ngayon kay Presidente Duterte, may kagagawan ang pagsasalita mo ng mga atake sa mga Obispo at sa mga Katoliko, dito sa paggawa ng mga kabataang ito, or whoever did Jolo or Zamboanga mosque bombings,” she said.

This report made Locsin react negatively. And to show his support to President Duterte, he retweeted Samera’s Post.

Teddy Locsin Jr. said, “She doesn’t know what she is talking about.”

Gutoc responded that it was Locsin who allegedly “traded” his principles to support Duterte.

“It is you who do not know what you traded you principles for. If you think rape jokes and violence quips have nothing to do with peace, then I rest my case,” she said.

“And between you and me, sir—ikaw naka aircon at ako isang bakwit at naranasan ang epekto ng gyera sa pami-pamilya, I definitely know what I am talking about, sir,” she added.

Samira Gotuc-Tomawis is a senatorial aspirant under the opposition Liberal Party in the incoming 2019 elections. During the draft of the now-ratified Bangsamoro Organic Law, she supported Duterte as part of the Bangsamoro Transition Commision. But because of the president’s habit of making rape jokes and the implementation of the martial law in Mindanao, she has changed her mind.

An executive of a government printer and insider from the Department of Foreign Affairs said that there was no breach of data of the Philippine passport holders and that the software has all the details; and are still with the agency.

According to Michael Dalumpines, chairman of APO Production Unit, Inc., which is the current printer of Philippine electronic passports, the data has been retrieved and the equipment has been turned over.

“It was all restored. We can access everything.

A few days ago, Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr announced that their French contractor, Oberthur Technologies, ran off with the personal data of passport holders as it was irritated when their contract was cut off.

In a report by GMA News, a source told them that it was not true.

“This was not however true. The so-called contract of Service Level Agreement with Oberthur was not terminated but terminated or ended per Agreement and the Day Servers were turned over to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas/DFA. So what is there to breach?”

Another source has expressed that it was initially a problem on the “migration of data from Oberthur to DFA/APO due to incompatibility of softwares”.

Oberthur Technologies has yet to comment on the issue.

Teddy Locsin Jr. accuses Mar Roxas of taking credit for Cheaper Medicine Act

Teddy Locsin Jr. accuses Mar Roxas of taking credit for Cheaper Medicine Act

In reaction to a tweet from DZMM TeleRadyo’s official Twitter account, journalist and former Makati representative Teddy Locsin  Jr. accused 2016 presidential candidate Mar Roxas of taking credit for the Cheaper Medicine Act which he claims Junie Cua, Ferjenel Biron, and himself authored.

Here’s a copy of the controversial tweet.

In a press conference held in Iloilo in 2010, Iloilo Vice Governor Rolex Sulpico and Rep. Ferjenel Biron alleged that Roxas was getting credit for their work.

According to Sulpico, he authored and filed the house version of the bill when he was still a representative for the 13th Congress. Now referred to as RA 9502 or Universally Accessible Cheaper and Quality Medicine Act of 2008, the law aims to reduce the maximum retail price of 22 essential medicines by up to 50%.

“The senator only filed Senate Bill 101 in the 14th Congress seeking parallel drug import which would have benefitted more the multinational companies,” they said.

Roxas, who claims to be the author and  “father” of Cheaper Medicine Act, was accused of using the this achievement in his campaign pitch.

Sulpico even alleged Roxas of “castrating” the law.

“(Roxas) castrated the cheaper medicines law by making price regulation optional, limiting the coverage to only 22 essential medicines and reducing the price by only 50 percent.

Sulpico added: “He (Roxas) killed the heart and soul of the bill I authored. How can he now say that he was the author of the cheaper medicine law when all he wanted was an amendment to the intellectual property law.”

Roxas and his camp have yet to respond to the accusation.
