Filipinos really love pageants, especially when Miss Catriona Gray won the 2018 Miss Universe crown. During the competition, the lava walk of Miss Catriona captured the attention of viewers worldwide.
Now, her lava walk is the most famous ramp strut in pageant competitions. But one candidate in a gay pageant put her own twist while doing Catriona’s slow-mo turn.
A Twitter user, Kevin Marco, shared a video clip of Fab Antonette’s ramp walk with the caption, “Catriona Gray is cancelled,” during the Miss Gay Universe 2019 in Koronadal City. The video clip had already garnered 1.1 million views and 83 thousand likes.

20-year-old Anton Jann Faeldonia-Labiang, known as Fab Antonette Faeldonia-Labiang, was one among the nine contestants of Miss Gay Universe 2019 in Koronadal City.
In an interview with Dailypedia via Twitter message, she said that she really had planned and practiced that walk for the competition.
The idea of her newest walk is a combination of her old-style ramp walk and the trending Catriona Gray lava walk. She thought of using the “double turn,” which he started when she joined a pageant in school. Since then, it has been used by pageant enthusiasts.
Fab Antonette wanted to upgrade her ramp style, so she thought of combinimg her double turn with Catriona’s slow-mo turn, then he comes up with Catriona’s slow-mo turn and her fast double turn.
She really thought about it carefully, making sure that she would not stumble while performing her newest ramp walk.
Fab Antonette had competed with famous transgenders in South Cotabato and thanked God that she won the crown of Miss Gay Universe 2019 of Koronadal City.

Wish granted and a privilege extended for Denver Jay Orbeta, known for his “Sugar Walk,” in getting a chance to visit the studio where the Miss Universe Catriona Gray had trained with the help of Jojo Bragais, who said to give him shoes.
Denver Jay Orbeta had flown from Samar all the way to Manila because of a viral video seeing him wearing 5-inch high heels while buying a kilo of sugar from a sari-sari store.
A netizen had captured him ramping on the streets while carrying the sugar which later, after being uploaded, went viral. Netizens loved his walk with his matching heels and because he was carrying sugar, they have named his strut as “Sugar Walk.”
In an interview with ABS-CBN News Bandila, Orbeta was inspired by Miss Universe Catriona Gray. Through watching pageant videos and Ms. Catriona, he had learned how to walk like his idol.
On April 25, Jojo Bragais, who is a known shoemaker of Miss Universe Catriona Gray posted photos and a video of Denver Jay Orbeta on his Facebook account with a caption:
“Got the Chance to meet Denver Jay Orbeta aka “Asukal Boy” with his “Sugar Walk” Such a nice kid with a nice family.”
He was so fond of him and brought him to the studio where the Miss Universe 2018 had trained for such reason that Jay also wanted to join the pageant. He wanted the boy to experience the vibe of his idol while training for the Miss Universe.
Got the Chance to meet Denver Jay Orbeta aka “Asukal Boy” with his “Sugar Walk”Such a nice kid with a nice family….
Bragais had also said that he would give shoes for Jay as he was also known for making shoes used in pageants.
“I ’ma give him shoes, and sabi nya papageant sya so dinala ko sya sa studio ko kung saan nagtrain din si Miss Universe Catriona Gray para mafeel nya din yung vibe ng idol nya.”
A netizen also admired his family who gave their full support for Jay.
“I looooovvveeee!!! You’re amazing! More power to you!! And God bless the family who did not ever clip the wings of this beautiful boy! ❤️”
As Jojo replied witnessing how his family were very supportive of him.
“Very supportive the nanay, the kapatids are there. And even clapping as he do his sugar walk.”
A netizen shared on Facebook how a Dubai-based Filipino designer privately messaged her, after she declared online that she preferred using another shoe maker’s product.
Social media user Hannah Hope Ramos shared Nere Ku’s post about receiving an inquiry from a potential buyer asking him if he could try to copy Jojo Bragais’ shoe designs. The latter shoe maker was known for nude platform pageant heels, which have been the official shoes of the Binibining Pilipinas pageant since 2015.
Nere Ku took offense from the buyer’s request and remarked that it may be a prank fitting April Fool’s Day. Ramos reacted to that and shared her thoughts, saying “Tbh, Bragais is way better. Can attest to that because I have and I wore them both. Bragais is the perfect pageant shoes just saying.”
The designer then aimed his focus on Ramos and went on to send her direct messages on Facebook. Ramos posted screenshots of Nere Ku’s messages where the designer ended up in a long tirade and drivel about Ramos’ feedback.
“Sorry but I don’t fabricate like this for you to say WAY BETTER,” Nere Ku fired back, pointing out that the shoe was made for a contestant in Miss Batangas pageantry and the specifications of the shoe was made in accordance to that contestant’s foot size and not Ramos.’
The netizen then went on to give “proof shots” for Nere Ku to believe her that she has indeed tried using his shoes on. “I am just giving criticism about your shoes comparing them to other brands. Ganyan po ba kayo ka-professional tumanggap ng reviews ng product nyo? And if free nakuha ng isang candidate it means hindi nya deserve ang isang good quality product?” shot Ramos back.
The shoe maker even dragged Bragais to the conversation saying that he started earlier than him, and disclosed that that the go-to shoe designer in the national pageant scene has an outstanding “beef” with him.
Speaking of Bragais’ products, Nere Ku wrote “(You are) COMPARING A CHEAPLY MADE shoes to a quality made shoes now if (you) think na mas deserve mo ang isa WALANG PUMIPIGIL SA LEVEL NG TASTE AT ACCEPTANCE MO… pero (I’m) answering (you) as (you) compare me saying WAY BETTER??? I WILL LOOK STRAIGHT and WILL TELL (YOU) THIS… HINDING HINDI.”
Not into posting this kind of stuff but here you go. So , I saw a post from a page regarding 2 products that I have and both used so I shared it together with my opinion. Then the story begins…
He then went on a long lecture about the shoes’ slopes and platform sizes.
Netizens who have read Ramos’ story found the shoe designer “unprofessional” for his rants.
“Fragile ego,” one Facebook user said.
“Natawa ko sa atensyon seeker. Eh sya tong gumagawa ng eksena,” wrote another netizen.
In an interview with Philippine Daily Inquirer way back in 2013, Nere Ku was quoted saying, “Shoes are art pieces. They should define your personality”—one could only hope to see his avant garde, whimsical designs reflect back to him.
Maymay Entrata has showed off her skills in walking like a beauty queen. She was admired and received lots of encouragement from her fans to join beauty pageants, but then it isn’t in her priorities.
The actress doesn’t see herself joining a beauty pageant. It seems very difficult for her because she has a lot of priorities in her life and wants to focus more on her showbiz career. Still, she thanks everyone for saying that she has the potential to become a beauty queen.
“Kapag beauty queen kasi, hindi po clear sa akin kung ‘yon ang gusto ko. Maraming salamat po sa nagsasabi. Para sa akin magiging mahirap ‘yon. Marami pa akong priority sa buhay ko, may trabaho po dito sa showbiz.”
The actress was laughing while sharing the conversation with her grandfather – about her joining a pageant and telling him that. “Sinasabi ng lolo ko, sabi ko, ‘Maawa ka sa akin. Wala akong dibdib, ‘tay,’” is an implication that as of now, she is not seeing herself joining a pageant.
Maymay is also aware that Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray wanted her to portray her in a ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ episode, should it push through. To be chosen by Miss Catriona makes her feel so overwhelmed.
“Ang alam ko po, isa ako na talagang overwhelmed. Sobrang humbling na ako ang isa sa mga pinili ni Ms. Catriona pero gano’n nga po nakakakaba talaga.”
The majority of the netizen’s decision is what matters most to her, because she wanted all of the people who will watch the episode to be happy, instead of questioning with so many ”whys.” She also states that they have both different cultures, and she has doubts within herself in speaking English since Catriona is a fluent speaker.
“Gusto ko sang-ayon lahat ng tao. Gusto ko masaya lahat sila. Hindi ‘yung ‘Ah, bakit siya?’ Kung ano ang majority na gusto ng tao, ‘yun ang dapat sundin. Magkaiba kami ng culture ni Ms. Catriona. Hindi ko alam kung nagdadalawang-isip sila. Alam n’yo naman na ang ganda ni Ms. Catriona, English din siyang (magsalita), alangan naman na mag-English din ako sa MMK.”
As of now, there’s still no confirmation of her portraying Catriona Gray in ‘MMK’ and its clear to us that she is not into beauty pageants.
Success in a relationship is not measured by the time being together – maybe yesterday was full of sweet memories but now things may not work out.
Miss Universe winner Catriona Gray admits that she already broke up with boyfriend Clint Bondad, after more than six years in a relationship, during an interview on “Tonight with Boy Abunda.”
“We didn’t work out,” said Catriona, when she was asked what happened about their break up. It’s just that they outgrew each other.
“When you’re together for so long and you start off from a very young age, you grow. Whether that be in your personal life or in your career –sometimes you just outgrow each other.”
Show host Boy Abunda then asked Catriona if she still loves him. She did not answer the question directly but instead said she was so grateful for the time they’ve spent together and for supporting her through tough times.
She revealed that before she competed for the competition, they already had relationship issues and did not start after her winning the Miss Universe. Even after seeing Bondad passionately cheering for her in Thailand, they were no longer on talking terms during that time.
“It was really tough going through the competition with that happening at the same time, but I had to keep reminding myself that this is a once in the lifetime opportunity,” Gray said.
“If we’re meant to be together, maybe it’d happen in the future but as of right now…,” she added, shaking her head to indicate no.
The Miss Universe had no intention to quickly enter into another relationship as she said “doesn’t feel ready at all” because she wanted to establish an identity of her own during her reign as Miss Universe.
“I’ve never really had the chance — because being in a 6-year relationship from the age of 18, I’ve never been a young adult, a growing young Christian in that season of singleness. I think it’s really important as an individual because you need to know what you want, who you are.”
After Catriona announced their break up, Clint Bondad unfollowed his Miss Universe ex-girlfriend on social media and wished his ex-girlfriend the “very best” despite their split-up.
“Man, and here I am working so hard on my bad boy image… I stand by all I have ever said about you…You are still the most beautiful woman that I have ever met. I wish you the very best on your path, wherever it will carry you…Truly!”
On Bondad’s Instagram stories post, he stressed that “the feeling is very mutual and comes from a caring side for each other.” And reacted by using hashtag #nodrama to all the sympathy messages he received on social media.
“Gosh guys, just chillax! I am supposed to be on vacation. Don’t make me work till next week!,” he said in jest, reacting to the messages of sympathy he has been getting online.
“Read everything in an uplifting voice! It really is no biggy. We are ahead of you guys in time so we are all cool.”
According to Malacañang, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray has been misinformed about the bill which seeks to lower the minimum age of criminal responsibility from 15 years old to 12.
Last February 20 at the Novotel Hotel in Quezon City, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray held a press conference.
During her interview with GMA News on lowering the minimum age of criminal responsibility, she pointed out that the government should focus first on the reasons why these children continue doing crimes; believing that the ages from 9 to 12 years old, children are not yet developed cognitively.
“I would rather that the efforts be refocused on why these children may be committing those crimes. Because working with kids, you know that when they’re that young–when they’re 11, 12, or nine years old–they’re not developed in that way, cognitively, to make decisions knowing full well the consequences,” Gray said in an interview with GMA News.
After Catriona spoke expressing her disagreement with the said bill, presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo also made a statement.
A day after the Filipina beauty queen’s press conference, Panelo said Gray should be educated about the bill but still agrees with her that the problem of the delinquent children should be addressed as well.
“She should be educated. She may have been misinformed of the facts given that the opposition to the lowering comes from yung mga dating kritiko ng administrasyon (old critics of the administration), “Yung sinasabi niya na focus on the problems, kasama yun eh (She’s saying that we should focus on the problems. That’s part of it). When you lower the criminal liability, kasama yun (that’s already part of it),” he said.
Panelo also clarified that what is stated in the law is that children in conflict will not be put in jail together with the adult criminals, but rather rehabilitated before sending them off to society.
“Sa batas nakalagay doon yung rehabilitation. Ang focus nga rehabilitation, eh (Rehabilitation is what is stated in the law. So the focus is rehabilitation). So you are solving precisely the problem why these people are engaged in crimes,” Panelo said.
He really emphasized to Catriona that the government is already focusing on the problem because the children will not be jailed but instead will be rehabilitated to know why they have committed crimes and in time they will be put back in society.
“Miss Universe hindi naman ikukulong. Ire-rehabilitate nga natin. Kaya tama ka doon (Miss Universe, they will not be jailed. We will rehabilitate them. So you are right when you said that), let’s focus on the problem. We are precisely focusing on the problem. Because the problem is they’re engaged in crimes, So what will we do? We will have to rehabilitate them. Learn why they have committed these crimes, and then put them back to society,” he continued.
Despite being misinformed, accordingly to the Palace, they much-admired Catriona for speaking out her opinion on the matter which shows the evidence that she is truly concerned with the children.
“But I’m glad she mentioned it. It only means that she’s also concerned, which every Filipino citizen should have been – with a kind of concern,” Panelo said.
It has been the passion of Miss Universe Catriona Gray to work with children, even before winning the Miss Universe pageant – as fighting for the rights of the children appears to be one of her advocacies.
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray was asked, before winning the competition, that if given a chance to feature her life story on ABS-CBN’s drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” who she would like to portray her.
Catriona chose Maymay Entrata by saying, “Kind of a goofball, a little bit like me.”
During Gray’s Miss Universe homecoming to the Philippines, she was interviewed by the ABS-CBN newsman Mario Dumaual. Catriona was asked again if she is still open to the idea of Entrata portraying as the her in her life story on “MMK.”
The reigning Miss Universe was still consistent with her answer. Before winning the competition, until now, she still wants Maymay Entrata would portray her.
“I wouldn’t really oppose it. I mean, she’s a very humble girl. I’ve met her twice and she is very, very sweet,” she said.
But according to her “there has been no discussions yet for MMK” yet she admires Entrata, stressed the beauty queen. However, she is also open to having other actresses portraying her life story.
“We’ll see. When it comes around, it would be nice to also consider some up-and-coming actresses. It would be nice to see who would best fit me also, right? I would like to meet the other girls also,” she said.
Rumors spread when shoe designer Jojo Bragais and trainer Carlos Buedia posted their own photo on Instagram with Maymay Entrata. Both were part of Catriona’s team who helped her win the Miss Universe 2018 crown.
“Good luck in everything, Maymay. I-lava walk na lang natin ‘yan. Abangan!,” Buendia said in an Instagram post.
There has been a debate about whether Catriona Gray should be considered as Miss Australia or Miss Philippines.
In an interview with the American show Build Series, she set the record straight as some Australians have been claiming her as their own after she won the Miss Universe 2018 beauty pageant.
“I am Miss Philippines,” she stated.
“I really feel like I’m a Miss Philippines. I feel like a Filipina, a Filipino woman. It’s just so happens that when I was growing up, I was very much of an Australian. And I think you can be both because I did grow up with those two sides of the world. I thought it was funny that there was this war, like, ‘No, she’s ours, she’s practically Miss Australia.’ But I am a Miss Philippines.”
Despite the arguments, she added that she actually doesn’t mind Australia’s happiness upon her win.
“I can’t blame them for being excited, from really feeling the high spirits of the season, too. So we’ll let them have that.”

Miss Universe 2018 is currently in New York City, attending media interviews and appearing in several television shows in America.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana expressed that he is open to the possibility of having Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray as a military reservist in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
According to Lorenzana, he’ll try to talk to Gray and ask her if she’s interested in becoming a reservist.
“I’ll talk to her kung gusto niyang mag-reservist. Dapat Army siya ah, haha!”
— DZMM TeleRadyo (@DZMMTeleRadyo) December 20, 2018
He added that a visit from Gray to the military camps would also be welcomed.
“It would be honor to have her visit our camps.”
According to the AFP Reservist Act of 1991, reservists are assigned to provide the base for the expansion of the AFP in the event of war, invasion, or rebellion; to assist in relief and rescue during disaster or calamities; to assist in socioeconomic development; and to assist in the operation and maintenance of essential government or private utilities in the furtherance of the overall mission.
In a media briefing held Tuesday, December 18, Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo stated that President Rodrigo Duterte will sign any bill that will result to the legalization of the use of medical marijuana in the country.
He said that the president is in favor of the use of the drug and will support any legislative measure consistent with his stand.
“He’s in favor of limited use of marijuana.
“Logically then he will support and sign any bill that would be consistent with his stand.”
The topic was back in the spotlight after Miss Universe Philippines Catriona Gray addressed her stand regarding the issue in the Q&A portion of the pageant.
“I’m for it being used in a medical use but not so for recreational use,” she answered.
“Because I think if people were to argue ‘What about alcohol and cigarettes?’ Well everything is good but in moderation.”

When asked about the newly-crowned Miss Universe’s answer, Panelo said that she could have been “influenced by the President’s decision on that matter” or could have been her own conclusion because “she listened to the pros and cons of the matter.”
In September 2017, the House Bill No. 6517 or the Philippine Compassionate Medical Cannabis Act was approved. It seeks to legalize the use of medical marijuana.
