Sarah Geronimo, with all her achievements and accolades, has easily become one of the most marketable personalities the country has ever seen.
In March, Gardenia Bakeries announced that the multi-award-winning actress will be their ambassador for their sliced bread.
Gardenia has been competing in the market since 1997 and has recently been dominating it. Geronimo will be their first big name endorser and the company is looking to expand its dominance by planting its manufacturing facilities in Mindanao.
Simplicio Umali Jr., the president and general manager of the company, said that Geronimo was a great choice.
“Ang galing n’ya. And then even sa song for the commercial, ang galing! Pero when she sings it pa, ay talagang panalo. Sarah is really a perfect endorser.”
On July 9 at the Marriott Hotel in Clark, Geronimo was introduced as the official endorser of Gardenia Bread after giving a brief performance.
Umali expressed how confident he was in his company’s success, saying, “But today, when you say Gardenia, what comes to mind is the bread. Our people are so proud of the brand that they go around in Gardenia shirts without being mistaken for working anywhere else.”
Umali says that his hobby is teaching people about marketing at La Salle St. every Saturday.
His relationship with the company extends to more than two decades, at 21 years. He has seen the company grow from being a nonthreat to becoming the number one brand in the country.
To give you a little history, the name Gardenia was taken from a flower that is all white and is commonly found in Singapore. The reason behind this is that it can correlate to the scent of bread when freshly opened, regardless of the type of bread that the company produces. Geronimo has also mentioned before that Cheese Bun is her favorite kind of bread, which is also something that the company has.
“We chose Sarah as endorser because she epitomizes what Gardenia is all about—fresh, wholesome and tasty. We describe that taste as pikit-sarap and you see it in the commercial with Sarah, our very first big-name endorser.”
Gardenia has successfully opened three manufacturing facilities in Laguna, Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro. Last Tuesday, the company opened its fourth one in Mabalacat, Pampanga and even showed a little creativity by including the theme “Bake to the Future 2.0.”
The fourth plant came out with a “Bake to the Future 2.0” theme and is will be able to produce at least 400,000 loaves and buns every single day, given that it had 2 billion pesos invested in it. Products will be ready to be distributed to supermarkets, groceries, and convenience stores in Luzon. 1.8 million loaves will be produced every day, which rival companies are having a hard time to keep up with.
Sarah then said that she has been consuming Gardenia since she was young. “I really grew up on Gardenia bread. My parents saw to it that there’s always Gardenia bread on our breakfast table.”
The news of their first movie project together set abuzz online and was met with much enthusiasm from fans of both artists. The two will be directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, who is known for romantic comedy movies and melodramatic films.

Sarah Geronimo has once again been recognized by an international award giving body.
The Pop Star Royalty recently won two trophies from the New York-based Big Apple Music Awards (BAMA). She was named as the Best Filipino Act and Most Popular BAMA Artist.
The good news was made on the Instagram account of the awards show on Friday, November 30, coinciding with its ceremony.
It was noted that the singer’s trophies has been sent to her.
BAMA has been held annually since 2004 and has named international artists from Central Asia, Caucasus, and Middle East.
Other recipients of awards were Rossa, who won the Best Indonesian Artist; KPOP group Super Junior, who was named the Best Korean Pop Artist; Ahlam, who got the Icon Award; and Ramy Ayach, who won the Best Middle Eastern Artist.
The winners were determined by “membership participants” and according to BAMA’s Facebook page, “There are no “pre-nominations” and not allow the exchange of vows. Managers that call other managers to discuss strategies to contribute to the disqualification of the product and affect artists. The process will be of the value that we give those who participate in the process, and that will be nominated or winning remains important in the career of an artist.”

The internet went crazy when ABS-CBN‘s 2018 Christmas station ID “Family is Love” on Sunday, November 18, during ASAP Natin To.
There has been hundreds of stars seen in the video, which included, Vice Ganda, Coco Martin, Sarah Geronimo, Gary Valenciano, Piolo Pascual, and Regine Velasquez. Loveteams KathNiel, LizQuen, JaDine, JoshLia, and MayWard were also present in the video.
But as it seemed like every Kapamilya star has participated in the Station ID, there are still notable stars who were not sighted in the video.
Janno openly expressed his disappointment on Instagram. In his now-deleted post, he told everyone not to look for him at the Station ID because he was not even given the chance to participate.
“Throwback to Sept. 12 this year when I signed with @starmusic.ph. Naalala ko lang. Sila yata di ako naalala e.”
He also replied to one comment saying that maybe it’s because he’s not signed on a network contract, but as far as he knows, as long as you’re a recording artist, you’ll be included on the station ID.
When another netizen suggested for him to return to GMA-7, however, he told that the Kapuso network isn’t giving him any projects.
The Megastar was also not included in the Station ID. She is currently filming for her movie with Kathryn Bernardo and Richard Gomez, directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.
Julia, who is filming for Doctors to the Barrio alongside Kean Cipriano, was also not sighted in the music video.
The Exes Baggage star was also absent.
Alessandra De Rossi
Alessandra was also not in the station ID. Her movie ‘Through Night and Day‘ is currently showing in cinemas.
DonKiss fans fans have noticed the absence of the loveteam’s other half Kisses.
Judy Ann Santos
Like the artists listed above, Judy Ann did not participate in this year’s ABS-CBN Station ID.

Regine Velasquez has dubbed ABS-CBN Network as the “number one station” in the country.
In her media conference at the Dolphy Theater, she clarified the real reason why she signed with the Kapamilya network. She said that it’s not because of how much was offered to her, but because of the opportunities to work with talented artists.
“No… you know, at my age and at the stage of my career, we all know, you know, alam nilang lahat ng mga reporters dito na mga kaibigan ko na, hindi naman ako ilusyunadang tao. Alam ko naman kung ano yung lugar ko sa industry.
“Sobra akong touched na touched sa welcome na ibinigay sa akin ng ABS-CBN kasi hindi ko akalain na ganun ako kaimportante, hindi po ako mailusyunadong tao.
“But the reason why I’m here is because hindi ko alam kung hanggang kailan ko pa kayang kumanta, and I want to work with their talented singers.”
She then proceeded to acknowledge ABS-CBN as the number one station.
“Yun talaga yun, na bago man lang matapos yung career ko, masabi kong nakatrabaho ko din ang number one station.”
Regine also revealed that she’s looking forward to working with the network’s biggest singers such as Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Piolo Pascual, Morissette Amon, and Sarah Geronimo.
The Asia’s Songbird has recently signed an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN Network and it got people asking the reasons behind her decision.
In her welcome press conference last Wednesday, October 17, Regine Velasques has revealed some of the details why she decided to transfer networks after being a Kapuso for 20 years.
1. There are not enough leading men in GMA.
In a report made by Pep.ph, Cacai Velasquez, who is the singer’s sister and business manager, revealed that there’s actually a scarcity of potential leading men in GMA Network.
“Kunwari yung pag soap, sinong puwedeng i-partner? Yung ganun ba?
“In terms of project, nali-limit din. You’re limited to the characters also kasi yung leading man, medyo kapos.”
2. Regine’s decision was not because of the talent fee but to explore more opportunities.
Cacai also said that it was not about how much the talent fee is anymore, but because Regine wants to work with other artists and have more opportunities.
“Nothing to do with the TF [talent fee] anymore… eto yung decision niya na nothing to do with the TF anymore. It was a factor before but ang talaga sa kanya is to work with other artists, yun talaga.”
GMA-7 also released a statement saying that they respect the singer’s decision to join her husband in ABS-CBN and pursue other opportunities in another network.
“We understand her decision to join her husband and we wish her well as she pursues other opportunities outside GMA Network.”
3. To work with ABS-CBN’s artists.
With Regine’s ABS-CBN transfer, she is now free to work with some of the network’s biggest stars.
When asked who she’s looking forward to having a project with, she named Piolo Pascual, Aga Muhlach, Morisette Amon, Robin Padilla, and one of her best friends Megastar Sharon Cuneta.
4. Her interest on returning to the big screen.
Regine then told reporters about her excitement about exploring projects like opportunities to star in movies and to work with her husband Ogie Alcasid.
“I’m excited kasi ang Star Cinema nandiyan lang, so, siyempre gagawa rin tayo ng pelikula.”
She also showed interest to be partnered with Jericho Rosales, Sam Milby, and Coco Martin.
5. To collaborate with OPM Icons.
Aside from singers who were also from GMA-7 like Janno Gibbs, Lani Misalucha, and Jaya, Regine is also looking forward to collaborating with Kapamilya singers.
She said that she’s looking forward to working with vocalists in ASAP, especially Sarah Geronimo.
“I’m so excited because I get to work with Sarah. Alam niyo naman kung gaano ko kamahal si Sarah. Plus I get to work with other singers in ‘ASAP.'”
6. ABS-CBN has a lot of mediums for artists like Regine to offer
From print (books, magazines) to records (Star Music) to movies (ABS-CBN Films), teleseryes and many more. ABS-CBN also has a lot of produced shows locally and abroad which will widen her reach as an artist.
7. Wants to experience being with #1 TV Station in the Philippines
Regine wanted to work with ABS-CBN and called the network ‘number one.’
“Yun talaga yun, na bago man lang matapos yung career ko, masabi kong nakatrabaho ko din ang number one station.”

No wonder GMA Network’s The Clash grand champion Golden Canedo somehow looked familiar to some of the viewers.
As soon as she appeared in the competition, netizens have began posting about her resemblance to the Popstar Royalty, Sarah Geronimo.
Golden was immediately asked about how she felt about the comparison. She answered that she’s happy and thankful as Sarah is her idol. “Happy po ako dahil parang pinahawig po ako sa idolo ko po na si Sarah G na sobrang galing po at saka sobrang sikat, kaya po nagpapasalamat din po ako na nakikita nila si Sarah G sa akin.”
But does she feel any pressure being compared to such a veteran singer. She answered no.
“Hindi naman po kasi, di ba po, mas magaling po siya, alam po natin. Mas nacha-challenge po ako na mas pagbutihin po kasi nakikita po nila ako na Sarah G.”
It’s Showtime appearance.
Prior to winning the contest, did you know that she also appeared on It’s Showtime’s Tawag ng Tanghalan?
It happened back in October 2017. She used her name Roma Golden Apa-Ap when she competed singing her rendition of Jona’s version of ‘Pusong Ligaw’.
Unfortunately, she did not win in the said segment.
Golden shared how she prayed really hard not to get the boot during pressure-packed moments of the The Clash.
“Kinabahan po ako, sinabi ko sa sarili ko baka makauwi na po ako sa Cebu, parang yung pagod ko hindi po nagbunga, kaya pray lang po ako ng pray.”
There are two big rumors hounding the Kapuso network recently.
One is Regine Velasquez‘s rumored transfer to ABS-CBN, and the other is the speculation that Marian Rivera is pregnant with her and actor Dingdong Dantes‘ second child.
If both rumors are true, it is possible that Marian will go on a hiatus right after Regine’s farewell to GMA 7. Will the network be affected by these developments?
Regine and Marian have starred in a number of hit shows for GMA.
Asia’s Songbird has proven that not only can she sing, but she can also host a lifestyle show.
Aside from her music career, Regine has contributed a lot to the Kapuso network’s long list of top rated shows. She was a part of S.O.P, GMA’s former Sunday noontime show. The singer also hosted a number of singing competitions like Star for a Night, which discovered some of today’s well-known singers such as Sarah Geronimo and Mark Bautista.
Regine has also hosted Pinoy Pop Superstar and the Philippine edition of Celebrity Duets. Aside from hosting, she showcased her acting skills in Ako Si Kim Samsoon, Totoy Bato, Poor Señorita, and Mulawin vs. Ravena.
Her recent projects with the network includes Sarap Diva and The Clash.
On the other hand, Marian Rivera has starred in several popular teleseryes.
The list includes the network’s adaptation of the Mexican show, Marimar, which became the highest-rated primetime drama show on Philippine television.
Marian has also played the lead role in the fantasy series Dyesebel, her second time starring opposite her now husband, Dingdong.
She has also played as Amaya in the award-winning show of the same title.
The actress is currently a host of Sunday PinaSaya.
So the questions is: Will the absence of both greatly affect GMA’s standing as a network?

Despite big international cinema releases in the past week, local movies still shone as Sarah Geronimo‘s “Miss Granny” and KathNiel‘s “The Hows of Us” became box office hits.
Miss Granny grossed more than ₱130 million.
Miss Granny continued to draw moviegoers in and reached a single-day gross of ₱21 million on August 26, with 230 cinemas. The movie went on to make money after earning ₱85 million on the first week.
Two weeks later, the Joyce Bernal film is still being shown in 160 cinemas and the gross reached ₱130 million, according to Viva.
₱280 mllion 5-day gross for The Hows of Us.
Just like Miss Granny, “The Hows of Us” also experienced an all time box office high as it experienced a ₱35 Million opening day gross. After five days, the gross of the Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla film reached ₱279 Million.
Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, real-life couple Bernardo and Padilla play Primo and George, a couple who are struggling to save their long-term relationship.
The Philippine film industry is not dead.
The success of the two films puts to rest the long-held belief that the local film industry is dead.
