Miss World 2013 Megan Young and boyfriend Mikael Daez are in a relationship for seven years now. Megan posted on her Instagram account the story on how they met in an event. Along with her story was a photo of them. She said, “Mikael’s sweet gesture of lending me his jacket left a ‘lasting impression’ and now here we are seven years later.”
“The first time we met, we were backstage for an event. He was modelling and I was hosting. I was feeling a bit down and the venue was a bit chilly – which he probably noticed and innocently lent me his jacket. We didn’t really talk much that night but his gesture left a lasting impression! 7 years later, this is how he lends me his jacket,” Megan wrote on Instagram.
Recently, Mikael Daez posted a video of his girlfriend Megan Young on his Instagram account while competitively catching a bouquet of wedding flowers with the sound effect of a basketball game.
He showed another side of the Megan who behaved differently as a former Miss World titlist. The video was taken during a wedding. Together with other single ladies, she waited for the bouquet to be thrown. It is a belief that whoever catches the bouquet in a wedding reception will become a bride herself and be the next one to be married.
While watching the video, the netizens were shocked by Megan’s action. The moment the bride threw the bouquet of flower, it was clearly seen that the beauty queen was the one who eagerly caught the flowers.
Her boyfriend Mikael compared Megan to a famous basketball player who was good at catching the ball. But instead of a ball, she managed to catch a bouquet of flowers. There were also speculations that spread on social media that Megan Young may really want to get married with his long-time boyfriend – as shown by how eagerly she catches the bouquet of flowers.
But when she was interviewed and asked why she was so eager to catch the bouquet, she answered, “I think I have the competitive spirit in me in catching the bouquet,” and she was not thinking about the belief that everyone believes in. She was just simply catching the flower.

The Philippine Physical Therapy Association (PPTA) released a statement regarding a line that was said in the August 27 episode of GMA Network‘s The Stepdaughters starring Megan Young and Katrina Halili.
On September 6, the association took it to Facebook to express their disappointment regarding the said dialogue.
It is said that an antagonist uttered disparaging words to one of the characters. “…let me just remind you, you’re just a Physical Therapist. You’re not a doctor. You’re not a nurse. Ngayon kung wala kang magawa, masahihin mo na lang ako. Tutal ‘yan naman ang trabaho mo, di ba?”
According to PPTA, the insult was not only directed at the character, but the entire profession as well. “This insult towards an entire profession whose daily contribution as an integral member of the healthcare team does so much to help thousands of people return to function is uncalled for, and necessitates a response, if only to correct a misconception.” they wrote.
They added that they have already reached out to the Senior Vice-President of the Entertainment Group of the Kapuso Network regarding their concern.
The PPTA ended the statement with an offer to help those who are interested in learning more about the tasks of physical therapists.
On the contrary, Facebook user Nickie Padoc shared that the association was taking the issue out of context.
God its just a statement ng isang kontrabida .. malamang kelangan sabihin yun para maging makatotohanan ang pagganap .. pinapalaki nyo yung issue eh .. kung talagang feeling nyo naargabyado kayo sampahan nyo ng kaso .. pustahan tayo hindi kayo mananalo ..
Kiven Bauilod Abeltido said that there are other ways that can be utilized which is not insulting to a medical profession. He added that the reason why they’re reacting negatively is because they are trying to break the stigma and misconception of people towards Physical Therapists.
There are a lot of different ways and options that you can utilize aside from insulting an allied medical profession po, We are condemning this because we are trying to eradicate the Stigma in the Profession! irereklamo talaga namin because it deteriorates the misconception of the people.
Another netizen said that the only reason why the character said insulting things is because she is an antagonist or a kontrabida and is supposed to spit out words that will irritate people.
Hindi ba kontrabida yung nagsabi kaya talaga namang nakakainsulto? Magtaka tayo kapag well informed at mabait ang kontrabida diba?
GMA Network has yet to address the issue.

Women’s empowerment is a very relevant issue at the moment, following the unending rise of the ever condemnable incidents of misogyny across the world. Worse, misogyny gyrates not only outside the female community but also within it. Still, as always, the subject of beauty takes part as one of the many root issues why this deep-seated prejudice against women comes about.
Like everyone else, women are usually judged solely based on how they appear in the physical form; some people’s sense of beauty is limited, as though having imperfections is a disease.
That is why, Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, encourages women to uphold their self-empowerment, to embrace their own idea of beauty, accept themselves more, and enhance their potentials. The company has partnered with leading beauty brands Maybelline and Palmolive, to bring together five Women’s Rights advocates in celebration of women empowerment. As part of Shopee’s Beauty Fair event, the women – 2013 Miss World, Megan Young, actress KC Concepcion, and blogger-influencers Martha Jante, Kristine Roces and Helen Payawal – each shared their personal stories on how they overcame society’s beauty standards, and to encourage Filipina women to do the same.
Featuring three different talk show sessions, the five women shared personal stories on various topics, including how the media has influenced the standards of beauty, their struggles with overcoming society’s expectations of women, and how they managed to achieve success in both their careers and personal lives.
“Joining Miss World 5 years ago really took me out of my comfort zone and challenged me to be more confident. After being crowned, I realized I was in a position where I had the power to influence young women, and I wanted to do my part to encourage them to stand up for themselves. I used to just shrug off people who say insensitive or hurtful comments, but now call them out and tell them they’re wrong, and I encourage all women to not be afraid to do the same,” shared Megan Young.
Meanwhile, brand ambassador for Palmolive, KC Concepcion, also shared her own story on how being healthy is as important as being true to oneself. The singer turned actress talked about numerous topics from haircare to fitness, and how her journey with maintaining her health has helped her confidence and enabled her to achieve success in both her career and personal life.
Beauty influencers Martha Jante, Kristine Roces, and Helen Payawal talked about their work as influencers and bloggers in the beauty industry. The famous influencers also shared their everyday struggles as women in their field and how they were able to overcome it with the confidence that makeup has been able to give them.
Certainly, the society has set ideal beauty standards, which turn women into victims of always attempting to look only in a certain way in order to fit in. But we should start thinking that beauty has many faces — it has many versions not only limited to one. Real beauty, above all, is a matter of accepting one’s self and learning to enhance one’s gifts without the need to please others.
(In line with the Beauty Fair event, Shopee will also be celebrating Beauty Week from June 21 to 27. Users can expect up to 95% off the health and beauty category on top of a storewide sale, exclusive deals and bundles, P199 below collections and many more. Users can look forward to massive savings on a wide variety of items including makeup, skincare, haircare and other health and personal care items.)
