Comedian and television host Vice Ganda recently interviewed the resigned Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque in his show, Gandang Gabi Vice.
As the show was full of laughter and jokes, many people online did not find the host’s comedic lines and questions funny. Many comments on the YouTube upload of GGV were pointing out that Vice has been “rude,” “mean,” and “disappointing.”
Another Kapamilya host has defended the comedian.
Gretchen Ho took to Twitter to express her opinions regarding the way that Vice interviewed Roque.
She also retweeted a post of a netizen wherein Vice’s interview was commended. Jude Mangilog said that his way of asking Roque frank questions is something that we need.
Vice Ganda’s interview with Harry Roque is the kind of showbiz that we need. Using the freedom to express to quiz politicians and officials and ask them frank questions on the way they acted in office. We need more of these shows.
But not everyone agrees with Gretchen as another netizen called her out, indicating that she just liked it because of her “bias.”
You like what you saw with last Sunday’s GGV episode simply because that’s your bias. We speak according to our biases diba @gretchenho?
Gretchen then replied with an explanation of her side.
We need hosts & journalists who ask the hard questions. Some will like the answers, others may not. Either way, it’s important to have these platforms & shows to keep our public officials in check. That’s the media’s responsibility in a democracy: to keep power in check.
An article on The Philippine STAR received positive reactions as it featured the touching story of Ces Drilon‘s relationship with her bisexual and cross-dresser son, Andre.
The feature was written by Tanya T. Lara and it was revealed there that there was “no drama” when Andre came out to his broadcast journalist and news anchor mom.
When he came out to her by saying “Mom, I’m bisexual”, she just answered “Really? Okay…” then proceeded on talking about other stuff. Ces admitted that she did not know what to say.
“Di ko na alam ang sasabihin ko. I should have engaged him, I should have asked, ‘Do you know about condoms?’”
Ces proceeded to ask her son if he’s also attracted to guys, which he directly answered “Yes.”
Andre then interpreted being bisexual as a person who “inhabits a stranger role in LGBTQ because they’re neither one side nor the other. Other people think it’s a step down from being gay.
“I think gender identity is natural. I identify as a male or sometimes I’m gender fluid, which means it varies over time. I don’t always inhabit the gender of a boy, so it’s non-binary, it’s neither male nor female. The LGBTQ community can be sensitive about these terms, so it’s better to be not just tolerant but also careful and curious about the nuances of gender identity.
“When you talk about gender, it’s not the same as sexuality.”
But what did Ces feel when she saw her son wearing a skirt for the first time? She said that she “didn’t think anything of it” and even told him that she got better skirts than the one he was wearing.
“Never. You just love and accept your children,” she said.
She then posted photos of her son in her Instagram account and shared her thoughts about her son and how she salutes him.
I always say @vrtualdump is the daughter I never had! Then when he started to borrow some of my clothes, I have to confess I had mixed feelings. But I am so proud that here is my son, breaking gender norms. It is a gutsy bold move that I salute.
Ces received praise for her open-mindedness and reaction to her son’s gender.
Host and athlete Gretchen Ho complimented the story and labeled it as “inspiring” in her recent tweet.
The struggles behind the camera too. Inspiring story of mom and son @cesdrilon
Twitter user @skypenzomiguel said that he hopes that people would be more open about gender fluidity.
Kudos to Andre and Ces Drilon. I just read your article in the Philippine Star. I love your mother and son relationship. I hope people nowadays can be more open and know about gender fluidity much more.
An Intagram user also called Andre lucky for having a mother like Ces.
Just read the article from @philstarlifestyle and your son is very lucky to have a mother like you miss Ces @cesdrilon ❤️❤️❤️
Fellow broadcast journalist Rikki Mathay said that Ces inspired her in both work and motherhood.
I remember you bringing your then little boys in the studio. They were beautiful kids then, and they’re all beautiful men now. Parenthood was still a far-fetched notion for me at that time, but seeing how you seemed to seamlessly juggle- and excel!- both at work and motherhood left a mark on me. 😊 …You just keep on being an inspiration, tita Ces. God bless you! ❤️
A netizen shared that she’s proud of Ces and Andre’s heartwarming relationship.
Hello Ms Ces, I just read the article and I’m really proud and happy for you and Andre!Motherhood is the toughest job there is… most of the time we Mothers have the biggest share in our kids’ life (Sorry fathers…). I wish that Andre will find true happiness and fulfilment in life… Always pray and trust the Lord and He will do the rest. Have a blessed Sunday!
Instagram user itspaml5 commended the mother and son for being real in the article.
@cesdrilon I just read this. Am so touched by this beautifully written article because of the sincerity that both you and Andre showed all throughout. Both your struggles are so real, yet you both have such positive outlooks, and such great love and support for each other. Thank you, Andre and Ces, for sharing your stories. Both my mind and my heart are opened by this
As the fight for the House Bill 4982, a proposed Act on Prohibiting Discrimination on the Basis of Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity or Expression (SOGIE) Bill continues, another case of discrimination against the LGBTQ+ Community has gone viral.
Impersonator Jervi Li, commonly known as KaladKaren Davila, has uploaded a video of a security personnel at H&J Sports Bar and Restaurant denying them entry. She and her friends were not allowed to set foot in the bar because they cannot let gay people in.
Li admitted that she was taken aback by the new policy as she’s a regular customer of the bar and they were also there the night before it happened.
BAWAL ANG BAKLA: Last night, my friends and I were denied entry to H&J Sports Bar and Restaurant in Poblacion, Makati dahil bawal raw po pumasok ang mga “BAKLA”. HINDI dahil sa DRESS CODE or whatever, pero dahil BAKLA po kami. Totoo ba, dear??? 2018 na! #MayPinalayas pic.twitter.com/mp1AMBSCWG
— KaladKaren (@jervijervi) August 26, 2018
When a certain @gelogallardo messaged the official Facebook page of the bar, a certain DJ Izza explained that she was also alarmed by the incident. It turns out that the discrimination is a result of a stolen wallet.
She said that on Saturday, August 25, a customer of the bar lost his wallet and the only people he shared tables with are gay men. They refused to let gay people enter for the meantime as “mainit pa daw po yung issue sa loob at inaayos pa daw po”.
The DJ added “But I clarified with our management. And all gender are still welcome sa H&J and will always be. We have regular gay customers as you can see din po sa page ng H&J.”
The video immediately went viral and reached the radar of celebrities and personalities.
Kapuso actor Dingdong Dantes tweeted and asked a certain Gibby Gorres, “What bar is this, Gibby?”
He also retweeted the tweet of the netizen.
Dantes also added that both the owner and bouncer need to be educated about the SOGIE bill.
Yung mga may-ari at ang bouncer (na malamang ay sumusunod lang sa utos), ang mga dapat ma-educate sa kahalagahan ng SOGIE equality bill.
Athlete and TV Host Gretchen Ho also quote-tweeted KaladKaren’s tweet and said “No to discrimination”.
Bataan 1st District Rep. Geraldine Roman filed a resolution to look into the incident. In her Facebook page, she wrote, “I just filed a resolution directing the House Committee on Women and Gender Equality to conduct an inquiry into the possible discriminatory acts perpetrated by a Makati bar against Kaladkaren Davila and her friends. There is no place for hate, inequality and discrimination in a just and civil Philippine society.”
As the first transgender in Congress, Roman is a known gay rights advocate. She’s also one of the lawmakers who are currently fighting for the SOGIE Bill.
H&J Sports Bar responds.
According to the management of the bar, there was a miscommunication. They were only prohibiting the entry of a certain LGBT group, not the whole community itself.
The bar’s general manager, Gerry Ecther said “There was an issue prior to that with some transgenders that stole. So the instructions to the guard was don’t let that group in anymore.
We don’t have any problems with transgenders, whatsoever.”

Most of us Filipinos surely want to welcome the new year with a fresh start–a different perspective on life while leaving all the bad things to the previous year. A new year means new hope to us, another chance to be better. Resolutions. It’s what keeps us hopeful for the things to come. It almost feels like that we were given a new life.
However, one question haunts us. How long will this “new year’s resolutions” last? Two months, two weeks… a week? We will never know, really. But we’re glad to say that a brand that truly cares has opened its doors to make our resolutions lasting. Watsons launches its new year campaign, #HappyNewYou at SM Aura Premier.
An incredible buffet presentation.
Watsons giving a talk about the importance of embracing the new you.
Celebrity guest Victor Basa tackled about staying fit and healthy.
Hayden Kho shared the spiritual essence of change acceptance.
Former Ateneo Lady Eagle stunner Gretchen Ho explained the importance of stepping up your skincare.
Celebrity/Mom blogger Melissa Ricks showed the role of our hair and how we get defined by it.
Model/actor David Licauco demonstrated how to exercise without splurging too much.
My major takeaways to this event are; changing your new self and diverting your perspective from one to another is not that easy, but with determination and trusted guidance, you can make it through. Also, there’s nothing more fulfilling than knowing that you want to be better.
Often times, the people of the internet are setting their ideal kind of relationship based on those of others. Many women get envious of someone else’s sweet and thoughtful partner and dreams of having their own.
Just recently, their list of #Relationshipgoals increased after a Facebook page named Gretchen Ong Ho posted a compilation of Miguel de Guzman’s sweet tweets and photo captions for his Ateneo Blue Eagles’ player girlfriend Jia Morado.

The lovable couple garnered a lot of fans, regardless if they like sports or not, and had been posting comments in the couple’s posts saying that they are their #RelationshipGoals.
