Angel Locsin has been missing in action from teleseryes since The Legal Wife. And now that she is coming back with The General’s Daughter, she shared the reason why it took her five years to star in a series again.
In the span of a few years, the actress went through a break-up, a spinal injury, and an almost resignation from ABS-CBN.
The reason for her teleserye hiatus was speculated to be one of those occurrences but at the press conference of The General’s Daughter, she shared that it was actually not the case.
So why? Darna.
“Noong gagawin ko po dapat ‘yung ‘Darna,’ mayroon kaming agreement ng ABS na hindi ako tatanggap ng ibang project hangga’t ginagawa po ‘yung ‘Darna.’ Dahil inabot tayo ng lampas limang taon ata ‘yung preparation ng ‘Darna,’ na-delay nang na-delay.”
Star Cinema announced in 2014 that Locsin would play as the Filipino female super hero once again for the film adaptation.
“Though nakakagawa ng ibang guestings, ng pelikula, ‘yung teleserye not allowed.
“May agreement naman po kami sa ganu’n, kasi mahirap at very physical. Pati ‘yung schedule na kailangan doon sa ‘Darna,’ medyo challenge. Natagalan po talaga.”
Though she was absent from teleseryes, she did take on some acting roles, including a two-part episode for Maalaala Mo Kaya, and a guest appearance in La Luna Sangre. She also continued to be a judge in Pilipinas Got Talent.
The actress was also in two non-action films under Star Cinema.
In 2017, she has decided to withdraw from Darna, citing her injury and how the role would require a lot of physical routines.
The General’s Daughter will premiere on Monday, January 21, after FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
At the DVD launch of historical movie Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral by TBA Productions, director Jerold Tarog, who is the current director of the upcoming movie Darna, admitted that he needs to make a few changes from the work that has been done by its previous director, Erik Matti.
He also admitted that there’s no updates so far about the movie that will star Liza Soberano.
“Kasi kailangan ko ulitin ‘yung script na tinatrabaho nila Direk Erik Matti. So andon ako sa stage ngayon na kailangan ko siya i-rewrite.”
He said that he wanted the story to be deeper and more meaningful.
“Nagte-take off ako doon sa draft nila, so mula doon kailangan ko mag-research ng kaunti, so medyo may reset ng kaunti.”
Even if there will be changes to the script, he clarified that there will be no changes with the movie’s cast.
“In this case kasi si Liza lang naman ang naka-lock talaga e. Okay naman ako doon wala namang problema.”
Tarog added that he will actually change the costume of Darna.
“May mga gagawin pa kami na additional for the costumes, mas praktikal. Basta kasi mayroong design na ginawa ‘yung previous team, e medyo iba ‘yung gusto kong direksyon. Kung iku-kumpara lang sa dating costume, may iba lang akong gagawin.”
When asked about Soberano, he said that they still haven’t talked to each other.
“Pero pag na-meet ko siya, doon ko palang masasabi ang expectations ko. Pero naniwala si Direk Erik Matti kay Liza, so ‘yung faith niya, I’m sure worth it ‘yung faith na ‘yun. I’m looking forward to work with her.”
Liza Soberano expressed her hopes to work with director Erik Matti again soon.
On an Instagram post, she captioned a photograph of her having dinner with the director and said that she’s still wishing for future projects with him.
“Thank you so much for everything direk @erikmatti!!! ❤️ This dinner really meant alot to me. Still hoping for a future project with you.”
She also said that the Matti personally messaged her to properly and formally say goodbye to her.
“I was really thankful because I don’t think a lot of people will do that. He messaged me just so that he could say goodbye properly to me and I really appreciate that he did that. And I am just really thankful that I had the chance to work with him and I still want to finish a project with him so hopefully in the future if our schedule permits and there is a really good script that he wants to be directing, I really wouldn’t mind doing another film.”
The director departed from the Darna movie in October because of “creative differences” and it has been a mutual decision between the director and the management.
Liza will continue on with the movie with a new director, Jerrold Tarog as announced recently.
“For right now I think we are going to focus with the movie with Quen because we actually have a due date for the movie, so I think we are going to do that first and Darna has to be focused on by direk Jerrold. He’s taking over now so there are some changes.”
Filipino movie BuyBust has received recognition and impressive viewership in the country.
With mainly positive feedback, director Erik Matti can’t help but share one backstory of one of the departed individuals listed in the closing billboard (CBB) of the film, to whom the film was dedicated to-Lupe Romulo.
Lupe is the sister of Erwin Romulo, the film’s musical director.
The filmmaker said that Lupe was looking forward on watching the movie as she was Matti’s “number one fan” and he misses the moments he shared with her. He even added that she once asked to be an extra in his upcoming project with Star Cinema, Darna.
3. Lupe Romulo was my number one fan. She’s the sister of #erwinromulo our musical director. She was looking forward to watching #BuyBust before she died. I miss smoking a cigarette with her. And she had the most infectious laughter. She even asked to be casted as an extra in #Darna.
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, who is also a sibling of Lupe, re-posted Erik’s photo, thanking him for including her sister’s name.
She then joked about replacing her sister as an extra in the show.
Thank you Dir @erikmatti for including Lupe’s name🙏🏻 Made me 😢 when i saw your post.
Erik appeared to be keen in the idea and playfully replied “pwede” and “haha game!” as the secretary responded with “just tell me when direk!”.
Darna is a co-production of Star Cinema and the director’s Reality Entertainment. It has been billed as “a first in Philippine cinema” in terms of scale.

It was last May 2018 when Liza Soberano was announced as the new ‘Darna‘ film adaptation by Director Erik Matti.
Soberano is a 20 year-old Kapamilya actress that has been the lead for top-rating teleseryes such as Dolce Amore and Forevermore.
Director Matti previously expressed that he is very satisfied that Liza accepted the role as she has the physical strength and with her age, it will be easier to adjust her face to the needed look for a scene as her visuals are very versatile.
The target filming date for the film is around September and the actress teased her fans a bit as she posts a fer photos of from her training sessions for Darna.
The film was said to premier late this year but rumor has it that it may be postponed to early next year instead. However, the release date is yet to be confirmed.
“If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you. #DarnaTraining”
Liza Soberano is currently starring as the female lead Ganda in the TV series ‘Bagani‘ alongside Enrique Gil, Matteo Guidicelli, Makisig Morales, and Zaijan Jaranilla. It is a Filipino drama fantasy series on ABS-CBN revolving around the five ethnic groups of a world called Sansinukob.
On the Saturday episode of Pilipinas Got Talent, one girl group joined to show their talent of “car washing.” The four girls entered the audition stage wearing nothing but undergarments.
The talent that they showed was dancing while washing a car, however, not even ten seconds have passed when Angel Locsin, one of the PGT judges, already pressed her red buzzer.
“Kung may talento kayo, ‘yan ang ipakita n’yo sa’min dahil talent ang hinahanap namin kaya ko kayo binuzz,” said Locsin on the group’s performance.
It seems like Angel Locsin was not too happy with the “talent” that the group showed. Angel, being an advocate of women’s rights, wasn’t impressed with the dance performance of the girls while wearing their underwear only.
“Kaya ko kayo binuzz, ayokong ipa-objectify kayo. Masyado akong nagmamalasakit sa inyo para i-go ko ‘to at patuloy kayong panoorin ng mga kalalakihan na ginagawa ‘yan. ‘Yun ang para sa’kin,” Angel explained.
Based on their performance, it looked like the group was trying to win the judges votes through their provocative dance routine while washing a car. Although the group was still able to finish their performance, they did not make it to the next round after getting two “nos” from Vice Ganda and Locsin.
“Walang kaduda-duda na kayong apat ay napakagagandang mga babae. Nagugulumihanan lamang ako if car washing in your underwear is really a talent,” said Vice Ganda.
Still, the judges were all kind enough to make them understand Angel’s comments and told them that it is for their own benefit. The group was even praised by the judges for their “entertaining” performance and even told them that they all look pretty but dancing on their under wear just isn’t cut for the Pilipinas Got Talent.
“Ako kasi, parang di ko kaya na makita kayo na nagsasayaw ng naka-underwear para lang sa’min. Masyado kayong magaganda at masyado nyo ‘tong pinaghirapan para gawin yan,” added Locsin.
From the very start, Locsin already showed her concern for the girls and it was clear that she only wants to protect them. However, it seems like the “Playgirls” couldn’t accept the fact that they didn’t get in and took their rants about Angel Locsin on social media.
LOOK: One Facebook netizen posted a compilation of all the screen shots of the “Playgirls” rants about Angel’s comment on them. It appears that they took Angel’s concerned comments in a bad way.
The netizen pointed out that Angel only wants what’s good for them and that bashing Angel for her comments on them only shows unprofessionalism.
“Inaaway nila kami. haha bakit?? inaano namin kayo? relax lang mga ate kuya.. mashado ba naming natapakan pagkatao nyo sa ginawa namin?”
Based on the posts, the “Playgirls” are defending themselves from the netizens who are criticizing them for their performance. It looks like many people also didn’t find their performance to be fit for television.
“Iniyak mo ee! Easy lang mga bashers. Hindi naman kami naghubad sa PGT.”
The “Playgirls” also ranted about the moment when Angel got teary eyed while giving her comment.
“Makapagsalita akala mo naman di sya nagsuot ng sexy… nung nag Darna nga sya naka- bra’t panty lang din sya. Buti nga may suot pa kaming damit eh. hahaha yoko na! sana pala nagbestida nalang kame.”
Although Angel only wanted to protect them, the “Playgirls” were quick to judge and compare what they were wearing with Angel’s costume as Darna.
“Dami mong sinabi samantalang nagDarna ka nga may nude pictures ka pa na halos hubad ka na… ano tawag mo jan, sacrifice? ‘di baleng ikaw mabastos wag lang kami? Buti sa balat namin concern ka pero sa sarili mo wala… “
Based on their posts, they are questioning Angel’s comments on them when in fact, Angel have worn, according to them, a more sexy costume. They also even justified their wearing of under wears by stating, “Kaya nga carwash ang concept ee alangan mag pyjam at jacket kami…”
Accordingly, the “Playgirls” said that they were directly contacted by the PGT management and that the concept was also suggested by PGT.
Many netizens got confused with the rants of the “Playgirls” when in fact, Angel was only showing concern for them. Netizens also didn’t appear to enjoy their performance and many find it really inappropriate.

According to the netizens, the “Playgirls” are totally missing the point of joining a talent show if they couldn’t accept what the judges has to say. Many netizens also commented that their “bar-like” performance really isn’t unique enough for PGT.
Ultimately, the “Playgirls” is still not moving to the next round of the Pilipinas Got Talent after not getting enough yeses.

Since the official announcement of Liza Soberano being crowned as the next legendary Filipino superheroine Darna, she became one of the most bankable actresses in the country.
With this, her talent fee grew much bigger than before . Reports said that the actress allegedly have 8-digit money in her bank account.
According to a big reveal from PhilStar.com, a reliable source shared that the soon-to-be-“Darna” got paid 3 million pesos for a three-hour appearance in an event. The said source co-organized the event so he/she surely knew what was going on.
Not only that.
The money she gets from being the endorser of the brand is different from the 3M appearance fee she got for that night. Shocking? We know right!
If these claims were true, could that mean that Liza’s appearance on a show, costs P1 million per hour?

The infamous Rizal Monument photobomber Torre de Manila has been causing a lot of buzz in recent months on TV, print, and social media. Several proposals have been presented in order to solve this problem.
Just recently, a solon suggested turning the Rizal Monument around, not only to solve the photobombing issue, but also to remove the “impression” that Jose Rizal was a traitor. As crazy as that may seem, this congressman is serious in filing a bill to have the monument turned around.
A Filipino graphic artist has some crazy, but funny ideas to solve this problem.
John Russelle Barrientos, a freelance graphic artist and information technology teacher, became creative in solving the national photobomber issue. You’ll be amused as to how this artist depicted how to remove the photobomber behind the national hero’s monument.
1. Using Clash of Clans (COC) Dragons, Wizards, and Barbarians
We’re sure he gets three stars for this! And a little bit loot too…
2. Using COC Balloons
Just a few bombs dropped by these COC balloons and the national photobomber will turn into ash!
3. The Cookie Monster munching on the Torre
If you are not familiar with COC, you can just depend on the Cookie Monster to eat up Torre De Manila.
4. Darna lifts the Torre
The Philippines’ favorite heroine removing the national photobomber. Neat!
5. Dragonball’s Goku with his Super Saiyan technique
If DMCI holdings get rid of Torre, Goku would, with his Super Saiyan technique.
6. Angry Birds
COC may have taken over the gaming industry, but we can still depend on the angry birds to destroy Torre de Manila.
7. The helicopter lift
Why not take a chopper to lift the Torre up and away?
8. The MMA choke
MMA fans, this is how we take down the tower!
9. Lupin steals the Torre
The world’s greatest thief can take care of the photobomber with a daring heist.
10. Po, the Kung Fu Master, and his martial arts techniques
Call on Po to destroy the building. We hope this would finally bring peace to Manila once the tower is destroyed.
So, which destruction technique is your favorite? Leave a comment below.
