There were 125 films shown last year. And most of them were from film festivals like Sinag Maynila, Cine Filipino, Cinemalaya, Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, TOFARM Film Festival, Cinema One Originals, QCinema, and the recently concluded Metro Manila Film Festival.
Despite a number of film festivals, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo‘s The Hows of Us topped the highest grossing film in 2018.
In fact, It was the only Filipino movie that has reached the eight hundred million mark in the Philippine box-office which beaten the previous holder of the top spot, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo‘s A Second Chance.
The movie also held premieres in Indonesia and Vietnam. It was Star Cinema‘s first time to do so in Jakarta.
KathNiel were not just rocking the box-office but the world of fashion as well. They were the cover of METRO Magazine‘s August 2018 issue.
They have been part of ABS-CBN’s line of representatives in the Thailand Network Trade Launch, which is the country’s largest media event. They attended the trade show with Maja Salvador and Jericho Rosales.
The couple has also won the Favorite Foreign TV Actor and Actress award in the Face of the Year Awards in Vietnam.

Liza Soberano expressed her hopes to work with director Erik Matti again soon.
On an Instagram post, she captioned a photograph of her having dinner with the director and said that she’s still wishing for future projects with him.
“Thank you so much for everything direk @erikmatti!!! ❤️ This dinner really meant alot to me. Still hoping for a future project with you.”
She also said that the Matti personally messaged her to properly and formally say goodbye to her.
“I was really thankful because I don’t think a lot of people will do that. He messaged me just so that he could say goodbye properly to me and I really appreciate that he did that. And I am just really thankful that I had the chance to work with him and I still want to finish a project with him so hopefully in the future if our schedule permits and there is a really good script that he wants to be directing, I really wouldn’t mind doing another film.”
The director departed from the Darna movie in October because of “creative differences” and it has been a mutual decision between the director and the management.
Liza will continue on with the movie with a new director, Jerrold Tarog as announced recently.
“For right now I think we are going to focus with the movie with Quen because we actually have a due date for the movie, so I think we are going to do that first and Darna has to be focused on by direk Jerrold. He’s taking over now so there are some changes.”
Angelica Panganiban and Carlo Aquino have been linked with each other ever since they reunited for the movie Exes Baggage.
As they remain mum about their current relationship status, the talks about them getting back together is never fading.
It was once again ignited when Angelica posted a photo of them on Instagram with the caption “Hindi na matatapos. Lahat ng kaligayahan ngayon, para sayo. Mahal kita.”
This resulted to netizens, and even their fellow celebrities, reacting to the said photo.
Dahil po yan sa Forevermore!!!!!!

TOTOO NA PO BA TO? @iamangelicap
May announcement ka pudding? Miss na namen kayo ni risidinchef malapit na tayo magsamasama!!!! Hehehe
Tri and Angel!!! Pati kami ni Jolina, tinatamaan! Sobra na to ah!
It can be remembered last September when the pair answered questions regarding their real relationship. During the press conference of “Exes Baggage,” the two of them admitted that they have been receiving pressure from the fans, which is actually the reason why they want to take things slow.
“Kapag ayaw na siguro nila kaming kulitin baka saka namin siya pag-usapan. Siguro hangga’t meron sigurong nangugulit parang hindi eh. Na-pressure lang kami.
“Kasi baka after ilang years balikan namin itong araw na ‘to at isipin namin na, ‘Nagpadala lang tayo ‘di ba?’”
Carlo added that he hopes that others would try to respect their current relationship status.
“Kung anong meron kami ngayon sa’min na yun. Kung anong sinasabi ng ibang taong nasa labas, ‘yung mga ‘di namin kaibigan or ‘yung mga nagco-comment, ‘di na namin iniintindi. ‘Di na namin iniisip. Basta okay kami, masaya kami.”
Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla‘s The Hows of Us has reached an all-time high box-office record after surpassing the ₱590- million mark.
The cast and production team of the film recently held their victory party on Wednesday night, September 12. It was attended by artists such as Darren Espanto, Kit Thompson, and Ria Atayde.
ABS-CBN’s current president and CEO Carlo Lopez Katigbak was also present at the event. The executive did not only offer his support but said a few encouraging words to the people behind the successful movie.
“I guess alam naman natin that Star Cinema always produces good movies. But every once in a while, I think you create something that’s special, that becomes a classic. That’s the real masterpiece. Isang obra maestra. And that’s what The Hows of Us is.
“Not just because we got P570 million but also because more than 2 million people have paid to watch the movie that you guys have created.”
He then gave a message to each person that led the team to its unprecedented success, starting with Olivia M. Lamasan who co-produced the film.
“So Olive I just wanna say I know what you’ve been through the last eight months. And this victory is really well deserved for you. Congratulations.”
Katigbak then turned to director Cathy Garcia-Molina and urged her to stay in Star Cinema.
“Cathy, I don’t know if you can hear me. You don’t have to choose between being a mother and a director, you can be both. So sana hindi ka na umalis the end of this year, please stay. Sayang yung galing mo.”
He joked with writer Carmi G. Raymundo, pushing her to get into a relationship soon.
“To Carmi, this was an amazing story. I can’t imagine how much better your story will be after you actually enter to a relationship. So please, coming soon, okay?”
And lastly, he praised Kathryn and Daniel saying that they were at their best in The Hows of Us.
“And to Kathryn and Daniel. What a great performance. Kath, [nagugulat] every time nagmumura ka on-screen. Nakakagulat. But it was the best performance I’ve seen from the both of you ever so congratulations.”

The Philippine film industry is not dead.
The success of the two films puts to rest the long-held belief that the local film industry is dead.
Filipino movie BuyBust has received recognition and impressive viewership in the country.
With mainly positive feedback, director Erik Matti can’t help but share one backstory of one of the departed individuals listed in the closing billboard (CBB) of the film, to whom the film was dedicated to-Lupe Romulo.
Lupe is the sister of Erwin Romulo, the film’s musical director.
The filmmaker said that Lupe was looking forward on watching the movie as she was Matti’s “number one fan” and he misses the moments he shared with her. He even added that she once asked to be an extra in his upcoming project with Star Cinema, Darna.
3. Lupe Romulo was my number one fan. She’s the sister of #erwinromulo our musical director. She was looking forward to watching #BuyBust before she died. I miss smoking a cigarette with her. And she had the most infectious laughter. She even asked to be casted as an extra in #Darna.
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, who is also a sibling of Lupe, re-posted Erik’s photo, thanking him for including her sister’s name.
She then joked about replacing her sister as an extra in the show.
Thank you Dir @erikmatti for including Lupe’s name🙏🏻 Made me 😢 when i saw your post. Ako nalang mag e extra sa #Darna 😊 #Repost @erikmatti #BuyBust
Erik appeared to be keen in the idea and playfully replied “pwede” and “haha game!” as the secretary responded with “just tell me when direk!”.
Darna is a co-production of Star Cinema and the director’s Reality Entertainment. It has been billed as “a first in Philippine cinema” in terms of scale.
Kris Aquino is making a movie comeback with I Love You, Hater starring Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia.
At the press conference of the said movie last June 18, the cast talked about their characters and the memorable moments on set.
Kris was then asked if she’s going to have a Kapamilya comeback soon because she hasn’t appeared on the television for quite a while.
The actress started off her answer with “Don’t expect anything”. She stated that she’s fully aware of the realities of life and she also knows that the network’s franchise is at stake.
“I also know that their franchise is at stake. I’m being so honest. Diretsahan na yan so why would they risk it by giving me a show?”
ABS-CBN‘s franchise will expire in 2020 and President Rodrigo Duterte has said strong statements about how he will block the renewal of the contract, which is still pending in the Congress.
Kris said that even though she has no issues with the president himself, she’s not exactly liked by his supporters, so she understands why the network doesn’t give her television appearances.
“Especially na kahit wala naman kaming issue ni presidente, hindi naman ako type ng supporters niya. So naiintindihan ko kung bakit wala.”
She mentioned that even if she doesn’t have much television exposure nowadays, people do see her every night as she is always online. The queen of all media stated that she has 53 brands supporting her, and she would like to thank them for she is also a businesswoman.
“Pero they see me every night if they want to. I’m online. And I have 53 brands supporting me. And I want to say thank you to them because I’m also a businesswoman.
Alam ko naman na hindi ako kukunin for this movie [if] i have not proven myself on digital because the goal of the character as they said “the digital empress” so they wanted that and I was able to give it to them because I’m the embodiment of that.
Nagawa ko dahil ako yung nauna. Dahil nga walang choice, kaylangan gawin. But I’d like to say that I was able to do it because of the businesses who supported me and I wanna say thank you to them.”
Kris also took the time to thank the fans for their continuous support for her and her online ventures.
“And I’d also like to thank yung mga [fans] kasi kung walang nagcli-click, wlang nagview-view, at walang nagshe-share, hindi ako naka-upo dito ngayon.”
I Love You, Hater is scheduled to open in cinemas on July 11.
