Media giant GMA Network, Inc. is said to earmark $20 million in order to complete the second phase of the company’s efforts to digitize its operations.
The converted money is over a billion-peso which is believed to boost production, post-production, content management and distribution capabilities of the broadcasting network.
GMA Network plans to upgrade its facilities in order to deliver full 4K HD while utilizing and enhancing digital terrestrial transmitters to enable its services to be viewed on digital-enabled TV sets and set-top boxes in areas such as Mega Manila, North Central Luzon, Cebu and Davao.
Post-production is equally improved with increased storage and color grading capabilities whereas New Automation System (NAS) is being implemented to advance its speed in news and information delivery through their eight shows: Unang Hirit, 24 Oras, 24 Oras Weekend, Saksi, News To Go, Balitanghali, Quick Response Team, and State of the Nation with Jessica Soho.
GMA Network chairman and chief executive officer Felipe L. Gozon said that, “All these state-of-the-art upgrades are part of GMA Network’s ongoing digitization project to bring world class programming to our viewers here and abroad.
“We are excited to unveil more innovative offerings that will not only maintain our position as the country’s leading broadcast network but will also revolutionize the TV viewing experience in the Philippines,” he added.
Anthony Taberna‘s introduction of Tonton at the opening of the 8th branch of Ka Tunying at SM North, has sparked curiosity about a certain puppet’s whereabouts.
Unlike Arnold Clavio‘s Arn-Arn, Tonton has the capability to walk, dance, and entertain the attendees of the event. But Arn-Arn also has his advantages. One of which is that he can talk.

But before people talk about a showdown between the two, where is Arnold Clavio’s sidekick?
Arn-Arn used to appear in Unang Hirit daily, helping with the commentary and reporting of news.
According to a staff of Unang Hirit, the puppet is sadly stored away in a corner of a room at the News and Current Affairs department of GMA Network.

It is said to be that the puppeteer got sick and is unable to work anymore.
“Nakatago na lang si Arn-Arn. Nagkasakit kasi yung puppetter kaya hindi na siya puwedeng magtrabaho.”
Arn-Arn was known as the “Pambansang Puppet ng Pilipinas” who even had its own Twitter account.
Jomerito “Jojo” Soliman, owner of Sta. Rosa Farm Products, exposed GMA Network’s Unang Hirit’s email requesting for an exchange deal regarding rice donations for the show’s Serbisyong Totoo.
The email contains a proposal for a deal between Pure Group of Companies and the morning show.
In his caption, he stated that the media outlet has the audacity to ask him for an exchange deal even if they’ve treated him like a fool before.
Dear GMA7 Employee,
Alam ba ng kumpanya mo na ginagago nila ako sa mga news tapos susulat sulat at hihingi ng bigas para x-deal sa ads or para ba i-donate sa typhoon victims?
Soliman said that he never deals with the media but this solidified his decision.
He said that he will directly approach agencies such as Department of Social Welfare and Development, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, National Food Authority, and Department of Agriculture when he wants to donate.
Hindi na po ako dumadaan sa media. Dati oo pero ngayon po HINDI na. We give donations/ contributions directly to the people or we course them thru DSWD, NDRRMC, NFA, DA.
In August 2018, Soliman received a warning from President Rodrigo Duterte regarding the legitimacy of his business. This was after the Bureau of Customs discovered 100,000 sacks of imported rice brought by Sta. Rosa Farm Products.
He defended himself, saying that the sacks of rice were properly documented and said that he has no plans of selling it for a higher price.
“Our company immediately responded and committed to help the government when the President publicly announced that he was scrapping the import quota in order to bring in more rice and bring down the prices for the benefit of consumers, particularly the low-income households.
“Malicious rumors harm all traders like me who conduct their operations with full transparency in accordance with the law and in coordination with the relevant government agencies.”

Unang Hirit host Lyn Ching-Pascual becomes a victim of the Ipit Gang while shopping in a high-end botique in Rockwell last Saturday.
According to her c0-host Arnold Clavio during Dobol B at News TV, the crime was captured by the CCTV wherein it can be seen that Lyn was surrounded by three women in one corner in the midst of a sale.
It can be seen in the video that a woman got the host’s phone from her bag and quickly passed it on to another girl, who immediately left after doing the deed. The first woman tried getting the host’s wallet but Lyn began suspecting, so she went to another rack.
The woman tried picking the wallet again but the host stared at her so she decided to leave the store.
When Lyn reported the case at Makati Police Station 6, it was discovered that she’s actually the second victim of the Ipit Gang in the mall because a cellphone has also been stolen from a government undersecretary just 15 minutes before the Unang Hirit host.
Lyn then tweeted her appreciation towards Smart for the prompt action after the incident.
“Kudos to @SMARTCares for your immediate action yesterday after my phone was stolen. Also to the staff of #SmartRockwell your immediate assistance is much appreciated. Though my heart is still broken from the loss of my husband’s gift, but your fast action helped.”
Authorities have reported that they have traced the location of the mobile device.
