7 Reasons Why Regine Velasquez Left GMA Network for ABS-CBN

  • Regine Velasquez shared the reasons behind her network transfer.
  • She said that she’s looking forward to grabbing more opportunities and working with Kapamilya artists.

The Asia’s Songbird has recently signed an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN Network and it got people asking the reasons behind her decision.

In her welcome press conference last Wednesday, October 17, Regine Velasques has revealed some of the details why she decided to transfer networks after being a Kapuso for 20 years.

1. There are not enough leading men in GMA.

In a report made by Pep.ph, Cacai Velasquez, who is the singer’s sister and business manager, revealed that there’s actually a scarcity of potential leading men in GMA Network.

“Kunwari yung pag soap, sinong puwedeng i-partner? Yung ganun ba?

“In terms of project, nali-limit din. You’re limited to the characters also kasi yung leading man, medyo kapos.”

2. Regine’s decision was not because of the talent fee but to explore more opportunities.

Cacai also said that it was not about how much the talent fee is anymore, but because Regine wants to work with other artists and have more opportunities.

“Nothing to do with the TF [talent fee] anymore… eto yung decision niya na nothing to do with the TF anymore. It was a factor before but ang talaga sa kanya is to work with other artists, yun talaga.”

GMA-7 also released a statement saying that they respect the singer’s decision to join her husband in ABS-CBN and pursue other opportunities in another network.

“We understand her decision to join her husband and we wish her well as she pursues other opportunities outside GMA Network.”

3. To work with ABS-CBN’s artists.

With Regine’s ABS-CBN transfer, she is now free to work with some of the network’s biggest stars.

When asked who she’s looking forward to having a project with, she named Piolo Pascual, Aga Muhlach, Morisette Amon, Robin Padilla, and one of her best friends Megastar Sharon Cuneta.

4. Her interest on returning to the big screen.

Regine then told reporters about her excitement about exploring projects like opportunities to star in movies and to work with her husband Ogie Alcasid.

“I’m excited kasi ang Star Cinema nandiyan lang, so, siyempre gagawa rin tayo ng pelikula.”

She also showed interest to be partnered with Jericho Rosales, Sam Milby, and Coco Martin.

5. To collaborate with OPM Icons.

Aside from singers who were also from GMA-7 like Janno Gibbs, Lani Misalucha, and Jaya, Regine is also looking forward to collaborating with Kapamilya singers.

She said that she’s looking forward to working with vocalists in ASAP, especially Sarah Geronimo.

“I’m so excited because I get to work with Sarah. Alam niyo naman kung gaano ko kamahal si Sarah. Plus I get to work with other singers in ‘ASAP.'”

6. ABS-CBN has a lot of mediums for artists like Regine to offer

From print (books, magazines) to records (Star Music) to movies (ABS-CBN Films), teleseryes and many more. ABS-CBN also has a lot of produced shows locally and abroad which will widen her reach as an artist.

7. Wants to experience being with #1 TV Station in the Philippines

Regine wanted to work with ABS-CBN and called the network ‘number one.’

“Yun talaga yun, na bago man lang matapos yung career ko, masabi kong nakatrabaho ko din ang number one station.”
