It’s “boycott for Filipino movies in cinemas” – Movie outfits have been using this as a reason for not earning in theaters this week.
We are aware that there were some speculations on directors who were calling for a boycott, on social media, for Robin Padilla’s’ movie ‘Bato: The General Ronald Dela Rosa Story.’
But for Arjo Atayde’s movie and that of Gelli de Bellen with Ariel Rivera, are their movies been boycotted too?
It’s really hard to believe the fact that film outfits report that their movies have been boycotted as a reason for not gaining that much in the box-office. There were also rumors that Vice Ganda’s movie “Fantastica” was planned to be boycotted but still the movie earned more than 500 million pesos, and was viewed not only in the Philippines but also in other countries.
Shall we claim then that movies like “Sakaling Maging Tayo” of Elisse Joson and McCoy de Leon and “Boy Tokwa: Lodi ng Gapo” of Jose Manalo which flopped in cinemas have also been boycotted?
The truth behind this seems to be the lack of promotion for the said Filipino movies. Perhaps, the producers believed that the promotion given bloggers and the free advertisement on Facebook were enough to promote their movies while minimizing their promotional expenses.
This can be a much more acceptable reason to explain why there were lots of Filipino movies that flopped this past week.
During the Metro Manila Film Festival of 2018 (MMFF), netizens already knew what movies they wanted to watch. There were series of interviews and promotions for the cast members of the entry movies.
Unlike those movies that recently flopped in cinemas, the filmfest entries were not announced early on and were kept it secret, while production were working on their respective projects, and only revealed the details of the movie entries when it was nearly showing in cinemas on Christmas Day.
Let’s us consider now which matters can have a bigger impact on why some movies are not viewed in cinemas, as well as the people who still love to support their favorite actors/actresses even if somebody would call for a “boycott” of their films.

Robin Padilla was saddened by an accusation hurled against his upcoming film, Bato: The Gen. Ronald dela Rosa Story, which is based on the story of former Philippine National Police director general Ronald dela Rosa.
At the press conference of the movie last Thursday, January 24, the actor stated that candidates running for an elective office have the right to have a movie about themselves as it has been done since the Marcos administration.
“Kasi, alam mo, karapatan ng kahit na sinong kandidato ang gumawa ng buhay mo, noon pa ‘to, panahon pa nila Marcos, gumagawa na (ng bioflick), kahit nga si Joma, gumawa ng pelikula niya.”
He admitted that what disappointed him the most was that it came from a colleague in the industry.
“Parang ano naman itong mga taong ito, eh artista kami.”
This was the reaction of Padilla after Director Lore Reyes posted on Facebook, saying that he will block those who are promoting the movie.
“Iboy-boycott n’yo ang mga kasama n’yo sa pelikulang Pilipino dahil sa ganu’ng klaseng politika? Ganu’n ba tayo kababaw na?”
He added that even though he hasn’t had the chance to work with the director, he respects his status.
“Minsan, alam ninyo, ang pag-iintindi natin sa isang bagay, dapat malawak. Ang politika sa buhay natin, dapat parte lang. Hindi ‘yan ang ibubuhay mo, araw-araw. Paggising mo pa lang, politika na agad. F*** that, man! Mayroon tayong mga trabaho sa buhay natin. Artista tayo, direktor sila.”
Bato: The Gen. Ronald dela Rosa Story will be shown in cinemas starting January 30.

At the first few months of 2019, Karla Estrada shared an interesting fact about her son, Daniel Padilla, and his interaction and closeness to his uncle, Robin Padilla.
The Magandang Buhay host recalled that Robin wholeheartedly gave Daniel the budget to acquire his first car upon entering showbiz.
In a conversation with the actor, his wife Mariel Rodriguez, and Mariel’s mom April, Karla stated that Robin was the one that gave her son his first car.
“Si Robin ang unang nagbigay ng sasakyan kay Daniel. Starex na binili ko…”
She added that Robin didn’t hand them a check or anything. Just a simple handwriting.
“Walang check si Robin binigay, sulat-kamay lang. ‘Tapos winithdraw ko yung PHP600,000 para ibili na yung sasakyan ni Daniel kasi sabi ko [kay Robin], ‘Tol, magsisimula na pamangkin mo [sa showbiz].'”
Daniel started his showbiz career in 2010 and climbed up to the top to become one of the industry’s most well-known celebrities.
Robin is the younger brother of Daniel’s father, Rommel Padilla. He shared the conversation through his Instagram Live.

There has been a buzz going around that there will be a biographical film – or biopic – revolving around the story of former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Rolando “Bato” dela Rosa.
It is said to be directed by Adolf Alix Jr. and will star Robin Padilla, which is also named as one of the producers of the film.
Gen. Bato perosnally said that he eyes Padilla to play the role and if possible, Megastar Sharon Cuneta to act as his wife because she’s a huge fan of the veteran actress.
But instead of focusing on their love story, he wanted the plot to put emphasis on his hardships and challenges before he reached where he is right now.
“Mas gusto ko kasing ma-inspire ang mga tao, lalo na ang mga kabataan na kahit galing ka sa mahirap, you could be somebody.”
It was not stated if the movie will be out before or after the 2019 midterm elections wherein he’s running for a Senatorial position.
Veteran actor Robin Padilla urged men to stop masturbating as he says that the secret to spiritual power is celibacy.
On November 8, Padilla shared a message on Instagram reminding guys to stop masturbating.
In the photo he posted, it cited a research from Zhejiang University in China which was reported by Men’s Health las year. It stated that men’s testosterone level increases by 45 percent after seven days of not touching themselves.
In his caption, he claimed that he has done it after his divorce 11 years ago.
“Pagkagaling ko ng India after mag aral ng Yoga at Kalaripayattu (Indian martial arts) I literally can leap very high and do some fancy kicks, strikes and blows!”
He said that after that, the energy in his veins were “bursting like a fountain.” He added that he didn’t have sex or did not masturbate for a long time as a part of his mantra and prayer as celibacy gives one spiritual power.
“Matagal na matagal akong walang sex at masturbation kasi parte ng mantra/prayer ang celibacy sabi nila it gives you a spiritual power. I read a book also about Mahatma Gandhi siya rin nagpractice ng celibacy. His wisdom and intelligence daw came from that spiritual power.”

@megadaughters_patty @wally_villanueva
He added how difficult it would be for men because the gender is outnumbered by women.
“This will be very hard for the men now kasi wow na wow ang dami ng babae ngayon maging scientific man, statistics man at sexual man outnumbered ang lalaki sa dami ng population ng babae (men are outnumbered by women).
“Sexual intercourse is non-negotiable but I’m sure masturbating can be negotiable.”

Nagawa ko na nong araw ito after my divorce 11 yrs ago. Pagkagaling ko ng India after mag aral ng Yoga at Kalaripayat (Indian Martial arts) i literally can leap very high and do some fancy kicks, strikes and blows! The energy is flowing and bursting like a fountain! matagal na matagal akong walang sex at masturbation kasi parte ng mantra/prayer ang celibacy sabi nila it gives you a spiritual power. I read a book also about Mahatma Gandhi siya rin nagpractice ng celibacy. His wisdom and intelligence daw came from that spiritual power. This will be very hard for the MEN now kasi wow na wow ang dami ng Babae ngayon maging scientific man, statistics man at sexual man outnumbered ang lalaki sa dami ng population ng babae. Sexual intercourse is non negotiable but Im sure Masturbating can be negotiable. I also read that men who control their orgasm in sexual intercourse can give the women the best orgasm. The energy that was release by the female will Radiate to the man and back to the women. No energy is wasted all absorbed physically, emotionally and spiritually by both. Alam ko shocking ito sa mga lalaki at mahirap ito ipractice dahil this is not the culture that we practice especially the Men. This are just informations that we can try minsan kasi we have to try different things to satisfy our hunger.
Padilla then ended it by saying that the information might be shocking but it’s something that men need to think about as they have to “try different things to satisfy [their] hunger”.
It’s no secret that political dynasty is evident in the Philippine government.
Whether from small towns or on a nationwide scale, there are always families that will try their hardest to maintain the power that their surname owns.
This is what Robin Padilla mentioned in his latest Instagram post. He named political dynasty as one of the biggest problems in the country. But he added that there is hope when it comes to this problem and proceeded to campaign for Baste Duterte, who is the brother of Davao City Mayor Sarah Duterte, and youngest son of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Ang pinakamalaking Malaking problema dito sa Inangbayan ay ang POLITICAL DYNASTY” but there is HOPE for us in this coming midterm elections though not with the unitary system of government but with the new breed of local leadership. I am for SARAH 👊🏻 and BASTE ✊🏻…Do not be misled by my endorsement of candidates kailangan ko gampanan ang karapatan ko bilang isang Tax-Payer! kailangan ko rin Piliin ang gagastos ng aking TAX na mula sa Hard earned Money ko! I am still for a revolutionary government with the Armed forces of the Philippines 🇵🇭👊🏻#antidynastyfederalgovtNOW #justDUit
Baste Duterte is running to be the Vice Mayor of Davao City.
Robin Padilla has long been a supporter of President Duterte. In 2016, he was granted absolute pardon by the President.
“He has suffered enough, I think. Kung bitawan mo naman iyong tao sa labas, give him the rights –makaboto, maka-travel, whatever.”
Duterte added that he did not see any malicious intent when he was caught with guns back in 1994.
The Asia’s Songbird has recently signed an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN Network and it got people asking the reasons behind her decision.
In her welcome press conference last Wednesday, October 17, Regine Velasques has revealed some of the details why she decided to transfer networks after being a Kapuso for 20 years.
1. There are not enough leading men in GMA.
In a report made by Pep.ph, Cacai Velasquez, who is the singer’s sister and business manager, revealed that there’s actually a scarcity of potential leading men in GMA Network.
“Kunwari yung pag soap, sinong puwedeng i-partner? Yung ganun ba?
“In terms of project, nali-limit din. You’re limited to the characters also kasi yung leading man, medyo kapos.”
2. Regine’s decision was not because of the talent fee but to explore more opportunities.
Cacai also said that it was not about how much the talent fee is anymore, but because Regine wants to work with other artists and have more opportunities.
“Nothing to do with the TF [talent fee] anymore… eto yung decision niya na nothing to do with the TF anymore. It was a factor before but ang talaga sa kanya is to work with other artists, yun talaga.”
GMA-7 also released a statement saying that they respect the singer’s decision to join her husband in ABS-CBN and pursue other opportunities in another network.
“We understand her decision to join her husband and we wish her well as she pursues other opportunities outside GMA Network.”
3. To work with ABS-CBN’s artists.
With Regine’s ABS-CBN transfer, she is now free to work with some of the network’s biggest stars.
When asked who she’s looking forward to having a project with, she named Piolo Pascual, Aga Muhlach, Morisette Amon, Robin Padilla, and one of her best friends Megastar Sharon Cuneta.
4. Her interest on returning to the big screen.
Regine then told reporters about her excitement about exploring projects like opportunities to star in movies and to work with her husband Ogie Alcasid.
“I’m excited kasi ang Star Cinema nandiyan lang, so, siyempre gagawa rin tayo ng pelikula.”
She also showed interest to be partnered with Jericho Rosales, Sam Milby, and Coco Martin.
5. To collaborate with OPM Icons.
Aside from singers who were also from GMA-7 like Janno Gibbs, Lani Misalucha, and Jaya, Regine is also looking forward to collaborating with Kapamilya singers.
She said that she’s looking forward to working with vocalists in ASAP, especially Sarah Geronimo.
“I’m so excited because I get to work with Sarah. Alam niyo naman kung gaano ko kamahal si Sarah. Plus I get to work with other singers in ‘ASAP.'”
6. ABS-CBN has a lot of mediums for artists like Regine to offer
From print (books, magazines) to records (Star Music) to movies (ABS-CBN Films), teleseryes and many more. ABS-CBN also has a lot of produced shows locally and abroad which will widen her reach as an artist.
7. Wants to experience being with #1 TV Station in the Philippines
Regine wanted to work with ABS-CBN and called the network ‘number one.’
“Yun talaga yun, na bago man lang matapos yung career ko, masabi kong nakatrabaho ko din ang number one station.”

Actor Robin Padilla dared Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Wednesday to come out of the Senate building, where he has been staying to avoid arrest after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered to void his amnesty.
Padilla urged Trillanes to face the “real court.”
“Ako may trabaho din ako, di ako makapagtrabaho eh kasi gusto ko makita ‘yung katapangan mo (Trillanes) na haharapin mo ‘yung kaso sayo.
“Humarap ka naman sa totoong korte.
“Senador ka pero nagtatago ka. Nakikipagtaguan ka sa batas, eh parang bata ka nga.”
In an ambush interview, Trillaes was asked about Padilla’s message. The senator asked the reporter to repeat the actor’s words and admitted that he didn’t know what to react and thought that it was immature.
“Pano ba ko magrereact? So papansinin ko siya ganon? Ayan na, binigyan ko na siya ng two seconds.
“Parang bata. It’s too petty.
“We’re dealing with national problems here tapos you have immature people like that.”
Trillanes has sought custody in the Senate building from Tuesday, September 4, after the announcement that his amnesty has been revoked.
Even though police have been deployed outside the Senate building, they are prevented from making arrests inside the premises of the Senate.
Robin Padilla hopes that the Philippines will accept marijuana as a way to cure terminal cancer.
In his recent post on Instagram, he stated that there are so many issues that the Filipinos are giving their attention to, like politics and basketball, which have no direct connection to them but when it comes to terminal cancer, they don’t really care.
Wala talaga silang ingay o pakialam.
All of the charities and individuals that he helped fight cancer, the number expense of the families’ is for chemotherapy that will hopefully kill the cancer cells and save their loved one’s life.
He claimed that throughout his 49 years of life, he only knows of one cancer survivor, namely his cousin Maritoni Fernandez. He stated that medical marijuana gives people the opportunity to undergo “natural healing,” as has been adopted in some “firstworld (sic) countries.”
These countries include Germany, Luxembourg, Canada, Australia, and Czech Republic, who have allowed the use of medical cannabis.
Padilla then said that with the use of medical marijuana, the Filipinos would have more access to the treatment for cancer and other illnesses.
Radiation ok kayo?
Last September 2017, a bill was endorsed by the Congress’ health committee which would legalize medical marijuana for chronic debilitating conditions.
British company GW Pharmaceuticals stated that the use of certain cannabinoids can cure illnesses such as prostate cancer, breast cancer, and colon cancer.
“Cannabis cures cancer. Big Pharma has the patent to prove it,”
The company has then developed Savitex which is a mouth spray with cannabinoids to treat patients suffering from multiple sclerosis.
In December 2017, the World Health Organization stated that medical marijuana can be used without the addiction.
Robin Padilla received backlash after his comments to Jiwan Kim, a Korean contestant, during a recent episode of Pilipinas Got Talent. Padilla wasn’t pleased after Kim refused to speak in Tagalog, so when the latter asked for Padilla’s involvement in his magic stint, the ‘Sana Dalawa Ang Puso’ lead actor firmly declined.
He pointed out what the show’s logo is all about. Pilipinas, the very reason why Kim should speak the national language.
On the other hand, Padilla’s co-host Angel Locsin received some praises after guiding the Korean contestant and volunteering for his magic.
The 48-year-old actor then explained himself during the media launch of ‘Sana Dalawa Ang Puso’. He said that he was never sorry for what he said and that he stood his ground.
“Hindi ako nag-sorry sa kanya,” he proudly answered. “Wala akong pinagsisisihan. Ako pumupunta rin sa ibang bansa at pag pumupunta ako sa ibang bansa, pinipilit kong malaman kung ano yung salita do’n. Kasi bisikat ka do’n e. Ikaw ang makikibagay,” he added.
Padilla also did not like the way how Kim expressed his feelings about speaking in Tagalog.
“Pupunta ka rito sa Pilipinas at uutusan mo kami,” he shared his thoughts. “Kung sasabihin mo sakin na sampung taon ka na dito, at hindi ka pa rin marunong mag-Tagalog, aba, may problema ka,” Padilla added.
He ended his statement saying that he loves the Philippines, and he would die for the Filipinos. “Bayan ko ‘to. Bayan ko ‘to at handa akong mamatay anytime,” he exclaimed.
