[mashshare]
  • GMA Films is making a production comeback.
  • They have produced a mix of successful and unsuccessful films in the past.
  • The production house has been on hiatus since 2016.

GMA Films is now back from their hiatus that started after the release of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza‘s Imagine You and Me.

The filming has started for the principal photography for the production’s comeback movie, Kambal, Karnabal, starring Derrik Monasterio, Super Tekla, Kiray Celis, Jo Berry, and Kim Domingo. It is directed by Adolf Alix Jr.

It is said that this will mark the start of GMA Films continuous production of movies.

Monasterio shared that he’s very excited about the comeback movie and he’s thankful for those who trusted his skills as an actor.

GMA Films produced some award-winning movies such as Jose Rizal, Muro-Ami, Sa Pusod ng Dagat, Death Row, and a few more others.

After Felipe Gozon took over the film production branch of GMA Network, it was placed on hiatus for about five years.

As they have put out successful movies, they have also produced not-so-successful movies such as Boy Pick-Up: The Movie starring Ogie Alcasid, My Kontrabida Girl starring Rhian Ramos and Aljur Abrenica, Patient X starring Richard Gutierrez and Cristine Reyes, Batanes: Sa Dulo Ng Walang Hanggan starring Iza Calzado and Taiwanese actor Ken Chu of Meteor Garden.

BIG JUMP! 25 Kapuso Artists Who Transferred to ABS-CBN

BIG JUMP! 25 Kapuso Artists Who Transferred to ABS-CBN

[mashshare]
  • There has been a number of artists that moved from GMA Network to ABS-CBN.
  • DailyPedia listed down some of the current Kapamilya stars who were once Kapuso.

Regine Valesquez’s recent signing with ABS-CBN is one of the most talked about topics this week.

After a month of staying mum about her network transfer, she has been emotional as soon as she stepped inside the premises of the Kapamilya network.

She’s not the only icon that moved from GMA-7 to ABS-CBN. Her husband, Ogie Alcasid, has also transferred, along with others like Janno Gibbs, Jaya and Lani Misalucha.

Here’s the growing list of former Kapuso artists that decided to switch networks in the past:

Richard Guttierez

After being in GMA-7 for more than a decade, Richard officially became a Kapamilya a little more than a year ago. He became a part of Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo‘s fantasy series La Luna Sangre. He is also set to star in a movie with Angel Locsin and Angelica Panganiban.

Louise delos Reyes

Prior to transferring to ABS-CBN, she had numerous appearances in GMA-7’s TV shows. When she moved to ABS-CBN, her first project was becoming a part of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano as SPO3 Katrina Velasco.

Angel Locsin

Considered as GMA’s former primetime star, Angel shocked everyone with her decision to change her home network. She has starred in Star Cinema films such as One More Try, Everything About Her, and The Third Party. She has also led the primetime hit The Legal Wife and became one of the judges for Pilipinas Got Talent. She has renewed her contract with ABS-CBN in 2015 and has made an appearance in La Luna Sangre.

She will star in the network’s upcoming series, The General’s Daughter.

Isabelle Daza

Isabelle has been a Kapuso for three years before signing up with ABS-CBN in November 2014. Her first project as a Kapamilya is the upcoming series Nathaniel.

Iza Calzado

After 10 years with GMA-7, she transferred to its rival network in 2012.

She expressed her thankfulness to her previous company and why she made the decision to move to ABS-CBN. “I’m grateful for all my years with [GMA-7], but [my father] was the one with me in wanting new things for me and my career. He wanted me to spread my wings and fly.”

Jake Cuenca

More than a decade ago, Jake has moved from GMA-7 to ABS-CBN. He has been cast in numerous dramas like Maria Mercedes, Rubi, and Palos, wherein he played the main lead, and Ikaw Lamang and Tayong Dalawa as the antagonist.

Cristine Reyes

Not everyone knows that Cristine’s entry to showbiz has been with GMA-7’s artista search program, Starstruck.

She transferred networks 10 years ago and has top-billed several projects such as Eva Fonda, Kristine, Reputasyon, Tubig at Langis, and I Can Do That.

Paulo Avelino

Paulo has been with GMA-7 for five years before becoming a Kapamilya. He has served as the male lead in shows such as The Promise of Forever, Honesto, Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon, Kahit Konting Pagtingin, and Bridges of Love.

JC de Vera

JC has stayed as a Kapuso for six years then transferred to TV5. He finally became a Kapamilya in 2014 and played a role in The Legal Wife and Moon of Desire.

Ellen Adarna

Ellen signed with ABS-CBN last 2013. She admitted that her transfer to the network made a huge impact regarding the recognition she got.

“When I was with the other network, ‘What are you doing now? What are your shows?’ ‘Uh, I’m a part of this show.’ ‘Ay, nandoon ka pala!’ Ibe yung audience ng ABS-CBN talaga. Iba yung impact.”

Toni Gonzaga

Toni has hosted in GMA-7 for seven years until 2005. She continued her career with ABS-CBN, venturing to acting and music. She has released six albums under Star Records and has starred in 11 Star Cinema films.

She has also continued hosting with The Buzz, Pinoy Big Brother, and The Voice of the Philippines.

Elmo Magalona

His first project with the Kapamilya network was the TV series Born for You, wherein he was paired with Janella Salvador for the first time.

Maxene Magalona

Just like her brother, Maxene was also a Kapuso turned Kapamilya, however, she actually started off in ABS-CBN in 1992 with Ang TV. She was then identified with GMA-7 for nine years before signing up with ABS-CBN in 2016.

Karylle

Karylle has co-hosted GMA-7’s SOP for seven years. She is currently in It’s Showtime.

Anne Curtis

Anne was a Kapuso until 2003. She has lead Kapamilya shows such as Kampanerang Kuba, Maging Sino Ka Man, Dyosa, Green Rose, Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw, and Dyesebel.

She can be seen regularly in noontime show It’s Showtime.

Liza Soberano

Liza has previously admitted that she “didn’t feel at home” in GMA-7, wherein she became an artist for only a week. She added that as ABS-CBN’s the one she always watches, it’s really where she wanted to work in the first place.

Jona

After winning Pinoy Pop Superstar, Jona has been one of GMA-7’s most promising singers. She then joined the trio La Diva.

She made a shocking transfer to ABS-CBN in 2017, saying that the network gave her more trust and has promised her a line-up of projects.

Yassi Pressman

Yassi has spent almost a decade with GMA-7 and TV5 before making her way to ABS-CBN. She has become a household name after appearing in Pinoy Big Brother and becoming a part of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.

Jay R

Jay R spent the first decade of his career as a Kapuso artist. In 2015, he opened a new chapter of his life with ABS-CBN when he appeared as a contestant in Your Face Sounds Familiar.

Jaya

Jaya decided to leave GMA-7 after she concluded her final project with the network, Poor Señorita. Her appearance in It’s Showtime in 2016 marked as her surprising decision to switch networks.

Ogie Alcasid

After being out of the limelight when he left GMA-7, Ogie has been with TV5 for a while before returning to ABS-CBN, where he did a few shows in the 90s.

He became a judge of Tawag ng Tanghalan and talent show Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids.

Kyla

Kyla stayed as a Kapuso for 15 years before she moved to ABS-CBN.

Aljur Abrenica

Aljur was a GMA-7 artist for nearly a decade before deciding to be a Kapamilya. Only six months after his move to ABS-CBN, he already top-billed his own series Asintado.

He has also appeared as a guest in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.

Janno Gibbs

Needing some freshening up, Janno made a switch and signed with Star Music, wherein he’s currently promoting his latest single, Feeling JKL. He has also appeared in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano and other ABS-CBN shows.

Celebrities share how they are affected by the price increase of basic commodities

Celebrities share how they are affected by the price increase of basic commodities

[mashshare]
  • Celebrities shared how they cope with the increased prices of almost everything because of the inflation.
  • They also gave tips how to budget your money or earn extra income.

The rapid increase in the price of basic commodities does not only affect the masses, but celebrities as well.

Philippine Statistics Authority recently revealed that the Philippines inflation rate reached 6.4% in August, which is the highest it has been for the past nine years.

Some Kapamilya and Kapuso stars shared how they’re affected and how they cope with the situation.

Cannes Film Festival Best Actress Jaclyn Jose said that everytime she goes out to buy something, she noticed that the prices for everything were suddenly doubled. “Ako mismo, I go to the market pati ako nagdidiskarte, kailangan mong diskartehan kasi doble talaga.

“The usual food I ordered that me and my son are getting, makikita mo ngayon doble ang presyo, but the same lang yung order namin. So, ramdam na ramdam ko din talaga.”

She said that in order to budget her money wisely, she just thinks of ways to buy everything she needs.

“Halimbawa one kilo gagawin mong 3/4. I went to Mahogany market the other day in Tagaytay, I go to Farmers.

“Kapag hindi ka magdidiskarte walang mangyayari.”

Meanwhile, Jason Abalos shared that it’s a person’s choice how to adjust to the price increase.

“Nasa lifestyle lang din yun. Kumbaga, kung medyo mahal ang mga bilihin, puwede ka naman kumain sa mga carinderia. Ako kasi, minsan yun ang ginagawa ko. ‘Tapos kung mayroon kayong maluluwang na lupa, di ba, puwede kayo magtanim kung anu-ano.

“Depende nga sa lifestyle kung medyo magastos ngayon puwede magtipid.”

For T.O.P member Adrian Pascual, Filipinos should learn how to be practical.

“Siguro practicality magiging praktikal. Hindi rin ako maarte na tao kahit Bicol express na 555 Tuna tapos mainit na kanin, G ako.

“Ganito gawin n’yo mag-grocery kayo dun sa mura ang bilihin. Magluto kayo kaysa bumili kasi sobrang makakamura.”

ABS-CBN comedienne Pokwang also feels the effects of inflation. “Dati naggo-grocery ka P5,000, P10,000… ito lang ‘yun?“

Donna Cariaga is dismayed at the prices of vegetables in the country.

“I’m from Baguio, nakakalungkot na maski sa Benguet mataas na gulay.”

Singer-acress Bayang Barrios opened up how difficult it is for them as they do not earn on a regular basis.

“Mga artists tulad ko na nagkakapera lang kapag may gig, ang hirap! Wala naman kaming monthly, gulay na nga lang at gatas para sa mga bata, grabe talaga ‘tong nangyayari.”

On the other hand, some stars gave tips on how to cope with the situation. Miss Philippines World 2017 Laura Lehmann said that lessening your night-outs can be a big help, and Iza Calzado suggested for people to establish side businesses.

Sigaw (2004)

Directed by Yam Laranas

This is another psychological thriller that will make you think what is the main story and what is not. Although he likes his apartment, he wakes up at night because of screams of help at the middle of the night. At the end of the hallway of his floor lives Bert (Jomari Yllana), Anna (Iza Calzado) and her little daughter, Lara (Ella Guevarra). Padre Ricardo (Neil Ryan Sese) gets suspicious about the nun who accompanies her, Sister Cecilia (Phoebe Walker). The two got into a tragic accident killing Roman and injuring Joyce. Alex (Dennis Trillo), a call center agent, had feelings for Joyce but didn’t act on it. He comforted Joyce in such a hard time, instead. After a few days, Joyce receives texts from Roman’s number considering it as a cruel prank. Or is it?

‘Wag Kang Lilingon (2006)

Directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng and Quark Henares

This movie has recurring themes that tie down both Angel (Kristine Hermosa) and Melissa (Anne Curtis) together: the spirits that haunts them, the mirror and the house. There may be many spirits haunting them, there is only one culprit. It all started when Angel lit a candle in front of a mirror with her little sister, Nina (Celine Lim). Apparently, they opened a portal between the two worlds.

Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara (1995)

Directed by Chito S. Roño

Barbara (Lorna Tolentino) had always been a loving sister to Ruth (Dawn Zulueta). Barbara loved her so much that she even sacrificed the guy that she loved, Nick (Tonton Guiterrez). When Nick and Ruth got married, Barbara fled to the United States just to start a new life and try to give Nick some time to fall in love with Ruth. After a few years of their marriage, Ruth still suspected Nick of harboring feelings for her sister. In a jealous range, she committed suicide by stabbing herself with a huge piece of a broken mirror. The suicide was witnessed by her daughter, Karen (Antoinette Taus) who had become unstable. Barbara comes back to the Philippines and face her past haunting her, in more ways than one.
