18-year-old girl speaks up on Anne Curtis and Ella Cruz twerking on TV

18-year-old girl speaks up on Anne Curtis and Ella Cruz twerking on TV

[mashshare]

Eighteen-year-old Camille Laroco posted on Facebook her insights on the dance move that’s taking over the nation. No, we’re not talking about the Nae Nae.

Laroco could not stop herself from commenting when she watched twerking performances of teen actress Ella Cruz and It’s Showtime host Anne Curtis. Laroco said that while she was a “Kapamilya,” i.e., a supporter of ABS-CBN shows, these performances crossed the line for her.

Many expect young women her age to appreciate such fads, but Laroco thought otherwise. While dancing provocatively is one thing, twerking is a whole different thing. Twerking is defined as a dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYszx5ECIW4

Twerking wasn’t actually a sexy dance previously. It is attributed to several traditional West African dances, most notably the “mapouka,” hailing from the Cote d’Ivoire. It is known colloquially as “la dance du fessier,” or “dance of the behind.” However, it made its way to American clubs and was particularly popularized by American singer-actress Miley Cyrus during the Video Music Awards in 2013. The rest is “sexy” history. It made its way to the Philippines and our local actresses are getting in the groove.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfrENXz2lqc

Una, si Ella Cruz. I know, she can dance. Pero puro twerk na lang ba sasayawin niya sa lahat ng shows na pupuntahan niya? Bata pa siya para magsayaw ng kalaswaan. Nagiging epitomy (sic) of f*ckgirls na siya. [First there was Ella Cruz. I know she can dance. But is twerking all she would do whenever she would guest at shows? She too young to dance such moves. She’s becoming the epitome of f*ckgirls],” said Laroco.

Next she commented on Anne Curtis. Laroca said even though she was a big fan, she thought Anne should have known better than to twerk on the popular noontime variety show It’s Showtime which includes children in their audience.

Summer is over. And we all know that for students, it is now the time to be prepping up for school. And for some who never wanted summer to end and thinks that school is boring, think again.

Going back to school doesn’t have to be that way. Even so, you can make going back to school an exciting one. Dress up and express yourself with BUM Univarsitee.

Make way for BUM’s back-to-school campaign – “BUM Univarsitee.” This will encourage students and the young bloods to rise above the usual and express themselves fashionably school-bound yet in a colorful and stylish way. So gear up by wearing items from the BUM Univarsitee collection.

The BUM Univarsitee collection is inspired from the concept of school chic fashion—a style influence that is preppy with a twist. It’s all about being school-compliant without making yourself look unfriendly and hallowed to one’s individuality—a combination of grunge, rebel chic, and punk. BUM unites the fashion trend it’s branded for—color in a garment.

The campaign is all about being comfortable and confident in school. And even after-school, wearing what you wear best and being a non-conformist around is somehow going to incite uniformity.

“Sometimes being in school makes one reluctant to be themselves especially when they’re in a sea of students who look the same. BUM Univarsitee encourages students and the youth to be proud of who they are and to be non-conformist without breaking the rules. Fashion-wise, the youth can express themselves with whatever style they favor with BUM Univarsitee,” Rai Lacoste of BUM said.

Because it’s back-to-school time, BUM believes that everyone should love and proudly carry their own style and share it to the world now that it seems very timely . The BUM Univarsitee collection is now available in all leading department stores nationwide.
