Ella Cruz, crucified for saying the exact same thing Lourd de Veyra said about history

People joked that she took TV host Lourd de Veyra’s introduction from a program of his too seriously

The buzz around actress Ella Cruz’s remarks about Philippine history hasn’t died out just yet.

In an interview on the upcoming film ‘Maid in Malacañang’ where Cruz plays Irene Marcos, the actress brushed off history as mere gossip, which made her trend on social media.

History is like tsismis. It is filtered and dagdag na rin, so hindi natin alam what is the real history. Andoon na iyong idea, pero may mga bias talaga. As long as we’re here alive at may kanya-kanyang opinion, I respect everyone’s opinion,” she said.

Kasi struggling na eh, last three days! Kahit naman sila struggling even right now, di ba? So, paano kaya iyon na there (was) so much pressure on their side during those times?” she added.

Cruz received her fair criticism, but netizens aren’t ready to let her off that quickly. People joked that she took TV host Lourd de Veyra’s introduction to his program too seriously.

“Tsismis nuon, kasaysayan ngyon” De Veyra says in the intro of TV5’s “History” show.

The journalist has yet to speak on the Cruz controversy, but he also made social media light up as well.

However, some wonder why De Veyra’s introduction was ignored, but Cruz was crucified for saying the same thing.

Fortunately for Cruz, Marcos supporters defended her from the bashing she endured. Director Darryl Yap said the public blew Cruz’s remarks out of proportion.

Nakita mo naman Ella Cruz; Basta’t may pwede silang sakyang isyu, kahit wala namang masamang kahulugan, gagawin nilang lahat ang kanilang makakaya para i-misinterpret ka at palakihin para mahawa ng relevance.” he said.

Yap also shared a Facebook post that labeled historian Ambeth Ocampo a “yellow historian.” Ocampo was one of the prominent personalities who criticized the actress.

The post explains that all Cruz did was express her opinion and that she never directly likened gossip to history.

In the film, Cesar Montano plays the role of former President Ferdinand Marcos, while Ruffa Gutierrez plays former First Lady Mrs. Imelda Marcos.

Gutierrez said in an interview that she has always been a fan of Imelda and how she carries herself.

Even before this project was offered to me, I’ve been watching a lot of documentaries on Madam Imelda because she is my favorite and that’s the reason why I accepted this project. She’s one of the world’s most glamorous women, and she’s truly an icon. The setting is 1986, but it doesn’t stop me from just watching everything about her. From the time she was born to her love story, until today. I really learned something from Cesar (Montano) while we were doing the look test. So I’ll be sleeping with Imelda on my mind until this movie is shown,” she said.
