Should Kapuso stars feel ‘threatened’ with the ‘deluge’ of Kapamilya artists after ABS-CBN’s shutdown?

Kapamilya stars Pokwang and Jessy Mendiola recently announced that they will start appearing on Cignal Entertainment, a TV5 network affiliate.

Butch Francisco thinks GMA Network talents should be worried about ABS-CBN stars even after the media giant halted operations.

Francisco wrote an article on pikapika.ph saying that an ‘invasion of ABS-CBN talents’ would prove to be a problem for GMA artists, and this shouldn’t be taken lightly.

He noted that TV5 chairman Manny Pangilinan has mentioned previously that a mass hiring of ABS-CBN talents, both on-cam and off-cam is certain.

“There are obviously more job opportunities open to displaced ABS-CBN people in TV5 since the Kapatid network doesn’t really have a stable of on-cam talents. Even the network owner, Manny Pangilinan, already said that he would accommodate as many talents as possible from ABS-CBN – both on-cam and those behind the scenes.”

Kapamilya stars Pokwang and Jessy Mendiola recently announced that they will start appearing on Cignal Entertainment, a TV5 network affiliate.

Mendiola is headlining Fit for Life, a fitness show while Pokwang, along with Jose Manalo will be hosting TV game show Fill in the Bank, produced by Mike Tuviera’s APT Entertainment.

She’s also teaming up with Pauleen Luna and APT’s Adolescent Princess Rise and Shine every morning.

Butch said that experienced Kapamilya stars could easily outshine those in GMA talent, primarily the ‘naive’ ones and could possibly bury their careers.

“The GMA talents should really be wary of the ABS-CBN invaders. The Channel 2 people are familiar with the showbiz game and know how to play it. The Kapamilya stars are worldly-wise – compared to the basically naive GMA artists. The ABS-CBN leading ladies will surely be running circles around them.”

He added that it would be a walk in the park for Kapamilya talents to navigate around GMA Network, even if there exists a culture of favoritism in Kapuso Network.

“The Channel 2 talents will find the GMA terrain so easy to navigate. There are no snipers to attack you from the back to begin with – unlike in ABS-CBN. Oh, yes, there is also favoritism in GMA – you bet. But it is different from how it is practiced in ABS-CBN – if we believe malicious rumors about management-talent relationships.”

“The ABS-CBN stars had been exposed to the vicious ways of the entertainment world. And so they can handle anything. They are like bean sprouts that will grow anywhere – with or without a franchise.

“The collective star wattage of the ABS-CBN talents is so powerful, they still shine minus the franchise,” he added.

Twitter page AltABSCBN hopes that Butch’s prediction wouldn’t come to fruition, because GMA artists are ‘innocent.’

One netizen said that Alden Richards is the only prominent talent from GMA Network, while the rest are either green or not that marketable.

Another said that Kapuso stars should have voiced out their support for ABS-CBN during the franchise renewal issue because now the Kapamilya stars are about to take over.

The leading on-cam talents for GMA will most likely be demoted to lesser roles in television dramas, especially if big names like Kathryn Bernardo are to be acquired by the network.

Barbie Forteza, who is one of the most popular stars from Channel 7, should expect to see a shift in her career in the event everything Butch said would come true.
