A tik-tik is a winged creature that hunts at night. During the daytime, it is said they take on the forms of smaller birds, like a crow, to find potential victims. If they find a corpse or a dying person, they simply come to it at night when they can transform into their full size. They can also feed on victims they happen to run into. Tik-tik suck fresh blood from their victims.

It is believed tik-tik can be warded off by sprinkling salt inside and outside one’s house. A garlic lantern can also be placed in the house. Others believe placing a broom upside down in the doorway of a house can keep tik-tik away as well.
