Millennials would have never guessed that one of the big three hosts of ‘Eat Bulaga’ has a very interesting past. Joey De Leon, a member of the comedy trio Tito, Vic, and Joey, was once a talent of ABS-CBN.
Posted on his Instagram account was a throwback photo of his younger self rocking the ABS-CBN logo at that time.
Joey de Leon posted a 1968 photo of him wearing a cap bearing the logo of ABS-CBN.
He wrote in the caption: “DOS were the days! Napansin nyo ba logo sa cap ko? 1968 pa ‘yan!”
The comedian-TV host started out his showbiz career as a radio disc jockey and announcer. He worked for 12 radio stations, including all seven radio stations owned by the ABS-CBN Corporation, as well as other broadcasters like KBS.

An episode of ‘Eat Bulaga’ last Saturday showed that after five years in a relationship, a gay and a lesbian couple have proposed for marriage.
Their love started in a cellphone shop where Karla was the sales lady and Emman was the client who wanted to buy a cellular phone.
At first, Karla did not expect that they will become a couple because of their gender identity – that she is a lesbian and he a gay man. He thought that a lesbian should think a girl to be her partner and as a gay guy I should be thinking of a boy to be my partner.
“Nung una, hindi ko inisip na kami talaga, kasi siyempre lesbian siya at bakla ako so ‘di ba dapat ‘pag lesbian iniisip natin babae ‘yung magiging partner nila. Tapos ako as a gay dapat lalaki ‘yung magiging partner ko.”
Their relationship hasn’t experienced courtship as, they say, it just happened.
“Wala talagang nanligaw ever since, bigla na lang nag-boom ‘yung relationship.”
They just tried to be a couple ’til now that they are already in a five-long-year relationship.
“Bigla na lang talaga, na-in love rin ako,” Emman said.
Their proposal happened in one of Eat Bulaga segments, “BOOM.”
Karla thanks Emman for not giving up despite all hardships that they experience in life. He expressed his love for Emman that whatever trials they may face, he would not leave her and would marry Emman in any church.
“Meron pa po akong hindi nasasabi sa kaniya. Gusto ko pong sabihin sa kaniya na, mahal na mahal kita, hindi kita iiwan. Kahit ano pa ‘yung mangyari sa atin, kahit ano pa mang pagsubok ‘yan, gusto ko lang sabihin sa ‘yo, kahit sa anong simbahan, pakakasalan kita.”
Even though they are not rich, they will do their best to get married through thick and thin.
“Kahit wala tayong masyadong pera, gagawin natin ‘yung best natin para maikasal tayo sa hirap at ginhawa,” Karla said.
Then suddenly Karla knelt down on his knees and pulled the ring to propose by saying: “Mula Aparri hanggang Jolo, Mary Ann Felix Bernabe, nag-iisang siga ng Banga-Banga, San Miguel, Bulacan, will you marry me?”
As a reply, Karla received Emman sweetest YES!
And Emman announced that she is already six weeks pregnant as she thanks Karla for understanding her, especially during her pregnancy.
Karla leaves a message to Emman that they should fight for their love. “Let’s not think what other people might say, what is important is that I love you as you are.”
“Kung gusto talaga natin, ipaglaban natin, kaya natin ‘to. ‘Wag natin isipin ‘yung mga sasabihin ng ibang tao. Mahal kita, kahit ano ka pa, kahit sino ka pa.”
The hosts of It’s Showtime made an agreement that they will go on vacation as a family every year. After nine long years in the noontime show, the hosts have grown closer and now treat each other as family.
This January, they all travelled to Hong Kong. One of the hosts, Jugs Jugueta, shared their experiences and adventures in Hong Kong. He was even interviewed regarding his views and opinion about the goings on in the show.
On Vice Ganda’s Jokes
Jokes have always been a part of the show. It is the joke that the hosts throw that make the show fun and entertaining. And one of the hosts who often throw controversial jokes is Vice Ganda.
Jugs was asked about Vice Ganda’s jokes about Eat Bulaga. He said Vice is just being honest and true. The problem with this though is that their honesty sometimes get them into trouble.
Just like other people, Vice is also a fan, despite being a star. He admitted to being a supporter of the “AlDub” team from their rival network.
Jugs does not see anything wrong with it. There are even times when Vice (and other It’s Showtime hosts) throw jokes at each other about Eat Bulaga and other stars of GMA Network.
As jokes go, they are just meant to be funny. But other people make issues out of those jokes. And as Jugs said, it gets them into trouble.
On Their Relationship As Hosts
The hosts of the show have developed a friendship incomparable with anything else. Their friendship is one with honesty, openness, and love. They respect each other’s opinions and views, making them free to express themselves.
Whatever jokes they throw in on the show are just that – jokes. But there are times when they joke with each other which, according to them, are sometimes true. But, this happens, only when they joke about each other.
The views and opinions of one host may be different from the others, but still they support each other. This is what makes their friendship one of a kind. To them, hosting It’s Showtime is not work, but bonding time for the family.
At his thanksgiving party held on January 6, Alden Richards shared his plans for the year 2019.
He said that he would still be appearing in his regular shows like Eat Bulaga and Sunday Pinasaya. Then he will get to do a series of concerts in various countries before he starts a new show with the Kapuso network.
When asked about the title, he answered, “Nothing is definite po as of now.”
“I’d really love to do it as I know it’s a hit drama worldwide. I’d also love to work with Maine again. But hindi naman po kami ang magde-decide tungkol diyan kundi ang GMA management. So I hope sana nga, sa amin ni Maine nila ibigay ang project as I’d really love to do it.
“Actually, kahit magkaiba ang career paths namin ngayon ni Maine as we’re on our own, mas close kami ngayon as friends at mas open sa isa’t isa. We are growing individually, on our own. But we really appreciate the fans of our love team who continue to support us and root for us and request na magkasama kami uli sa isang teleserye or movie.”
He also addressed the rumors of him being in a secret relationship, which was said to be the reason why he’s in his “happiest” as of the moment.
“Not true. I’m at my happiest dahil sa dami ng blessings na dumarating sa akin. Actually, ang wish ko nga, sana matagpuan ko na ‘yung the one this 2019. But hindi ko naman hinahanap, basta kung darating siya, ’di okay.”
About his future business plans, his own fast food chain franchise in Biñan, Laguna is currently under construction.
“But sobrang saya ko kasi dati, kumakain lang kami ng family ko sa isang branch noon sa Sta. Rosa at ngayon, may sarili na akong franchise. Our plan is to open it on Easter Sunday.”
At the topic of future leading ladies, Richards answered that he would like to work with Heart Evangelista in the future.
“I find her a good actress and I’ve never worked with her before. I’d really like to experience working with her as my leading lady.”
The newly-crowned Miss Universe 2018, Catriona Gray, is a former Little Miss Philippines contestant.
This became the subject of Eat Bulaga! co-host Ruby Rodriguez‘s Instagram post, connecting it to Ryzza Mae, who was crowned Little Miss Philippines 2012.
In her caption, Rodriguez said that the believes that Ryzza Mae has what it takes to follow the footsteps of Gray. This included a a side by side photo of Gray’s 1999 stint and the beauty queen’s recent photo.
“Sabi ko na nga @ryzzamaedizon_ may pag asa ka!”
Netizens have supported the idea of the Eat Bulaga host and even cheered Ryzza Mae to become a beauty queen.
Tita Rubs mag antay ako 19 more years from now ng isang Bulaga walk ni Ryzza sa Ms. U 2037
Go go go @ryzzamaedison_ Miss Universe 2022
Others also said that instead of sporting the lava walk that Gray popularized, Ryzza May will have the Cha-cha walk or Eat Bulaga walk.
Is Eat Bulaga finally transferring to its new home?
A few viewers of GMA-7‘s daily noontime show have noticed what seemed to be hints that the program will move into a brand new studio.
A short video was shown in the middle of the program after the segment Boom. There, they introduced a kid named Amboy which invited his two friends to play.
It was seen that Amboy was holding a newspaper named Balita Pilipinas that contained the faces of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon. “4 na dekada ng saya” was also written.
The kid made the newspaper into a paper airplane and made it fly in the air. A sign was seen containing the words, “Truckrental para sa lipat-bahay”.
Amboy and his friends then went to a store wherein they were greeted by the owner that said, “Bulaga!”
When the children reached the playground, on of his friends said, “Ang saya naman dito, Amboy.
“Kahit nasaan tayo, masaya.” Amboy replied.
It was no secret that the show has been planning to move out of the said venue and are planning to move in a four-story building in Cainta, Rizal named APT Studios.
Eat Bulaga has been in numerous studios before, including Broadcast City, Celebrity Sports Plaza, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Center, and in Broadway Centrum, wherein the show has stayed for almost 40 years.

Jaydee Niere Lucero, one of Eat Bulaga‘s scholars, topped the November 2018 Civil Engineer licensure examinations with a rating of 97.20 percent.
The student from University of the Philippines Diliman was among 6,262 examiners who passed the exams out of the 13,887 people who took it.
In a lengthy Facebook post, he thanked the noontime show for helping him with his studies for nine years.
“Sa Eat Bulaga, sa pagpapaaral ninyo sa akin (at sa aming mga EBEST scholars) for the past 9 years. Hindi ko marahil mararating ang tagumpay na ito kung hindi dahil sa inyo, thank you po!
“At sa lahat ng mga taong nagbibigay ng support at motivation sa akin (hindi ko na kayo mamemention lahat kasi marami kayo), maraming maraming salamat po!”
Lucero was followed by Norejun De Guzman Osial from Bicol University Legaspi with a rating of 96.50 percent.
The exam’s result were released four working days after the last day of the examination.
Comedian and actor Michael V recently conducted a question and answer segment in his vlog titled ‘#BitoyStory 11: “3-in-1”‘.
In one part of the video, he shared his thoughts regarding transferring networks and his goodbye as a regular host of noontime show, Eat Bulaga.
He said that his ultimate goal is actually for exclusive network contracts to disappear so that artists can work and share their craft without limitations.
“Ang pinakaultimate goal ko: ang mawala ang network contract. Hindi sa sinasabi kong hindi maganda yun. Pero mas hindi nalilimitahan yung kakayahan mo pag mayroon kang laya o freedom na gumawa ng project sa kahit anong network. Para ma-expose ka sa ibang style o talent.
“Ultimately, lahat ng artista yun ang gustong mangyari.”
He also explained why he has been out of ‘Eat Bulaga’ after being a regular host for 12 years. Bitoy said that his busy schedule has been one of the main factors for his decision to leave the show.
“Nami-miss ko rin sila siyempre. Mayroong point in my life na sobrang kailangan kong gawin na dati Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays ako, naging Fridays and Saturdays na lang. Naging Saturday na lang, so parang medyo nahihiya na ako.
“Napakaliit na oras na lang ang mailalaan ko for them, nakakahiya namang magtrabaho nang ganun. And besides that time talagang kaputukan nung AlDub.
“I think that was the perfect time for me to do something else, yung mga kailangan kong gawin para hindi nakakahiyang medyo hindi muna pumasok sa Bulaga.”
Michael V clarified that there’s no bad blood between him and ‘Eat Bulaga’ as they do occasionally ask him to host; however, it doesn’t match his schedule most of the time.
“From time to time tinatawagan pa rin ako ng Bulaga to host, it just happens na hindi lang talaga nagtutugma yung schedule, medyo busy pa rin. Pero open yung line namin ng Bulaga, so no problem dun sa part na yun.”
Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III suggests revising the lyrics of Lupang Hinirang.
In his speech during the plenary debates on the proposed amendment to Republic Act 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, Sotto talked about changing the last line of the national anthem because it is “defeatist.”
Sotto suggested changing the line “ang mamatay nang dahil sa ‘yo” to “ang ipaglaban ang kalayaan mo.”
In an interview with the media, he said, “Imbes na lumaban eh mamamatay eh. “Aming ligaya na kapag may nang-aapi ang mamatay nang dahil sa’yo.” Sa panahon ngayon dapat, “Aming ligaya ‘pag may nang-aapi ang ipaglaban kalayaan mo.
“Dapat laban hindi patay. My suggestion is perhaps the proper Senate Committee should study and we can consult the NCAA to look at that possibility.”
Netizens then reacted to Sotto’s suggestion. They joked about his lyrics change proposal.
Mula Aparri Hanggang Jolo
Saan ka man ay halina tayo
Isang libo’t Isang tuwa
Buong bansa ay nagkakaisa
Sa tuwa’t saya na aming dala
Isang libo’t isang tuwa
“Sen. Tito Sotto wants a slight revision to Philippine national anthem “
Gagi anong gusto mo ???
BUONG BANSA EAT BULAGA ?
Idagdag yung “mula aparri hanggang jolo “??
Allen Gaborro stated that Sotto is “intellectually unqualified.”
That’s Tito Sotto for you. Intellectually unqualified , underwhelming, and underwater. At best, he’s a man who knows a little about a lot.
Ian Darwin followed Sotto’s move and proposed that Leron Leron Sinta‘s last line should be changed to “kapos kapalaran, bigyan ng second chance” instead of “humanap ng iba.”
Karl Negado said that this is just a result of the Philippines’ economy declining, that the Senate President has ventured into song revision.
When your national economy is in the pits, it’s always a good idea to venture on singing song writing LMFAOOOO
A Twitter user then added this to the growing list of recent issues “hounding” the Philippine government.
PCOO USec Uson and a certain Drew Olivar mocking our constitution and the deaf-mute.
Pacquiao, head of Senate ethics committee
A certain Tito Sotto wanting revision of the Lupang Hinirang (or simply being a senator of the RP)
Lord, bless the Philippines.
@jwoein implied that Sotto just wants to cover up his Pepsi Paloma case in his history.
he wanted to be remembered as the one who changed the last line of the national anthem. and not the one who orchestrated the PEPSI PALOMA case!
Julian Felipe composed ‘Lupang Hinirang’ in 1898 while Jose Palma wrote the lyrics a year after.

Maine Mendoza contradicted the rumors that she and love team partner Alden Richards are just using each other so that AlDub fans will still support their individual projects.
AlDub became a phenomenon in 2015 after they started interacting with each other in Eat Bulaga’s ‘Kalye Serye’ segment.
The issue of “using each other” was brought to Maine’s attention after Twitter user @PaaNgMaichard warned Maine’s fans to stop calling Alden a ‘user’ as both of them still have solo projects to promote in the near future.
Maine took notice of the tweet and replied that she’s not forcing anyone to support her projects.
Alden and Maine continue to be co-hosts in the noontime show, however, both also have their own projects.
Alden is currently starring in GMA 7’s Victor Magtanggol with love interests Janine Gutierrez at Andrea Torres while Maine is part of the cast of the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Jack Em Popoy: The PulisCredibles with Coco Martin and Vic Sotto.
