Vice Ganda says people shouldn’t be ashamed of seeking help for mental health issues

Vice reminded the audience that there is nothing wrong with seeking professional help when suffering from mental health issues

Host Vice Ganda’s clip of “It’s Showtime” reminds people that seeing a mental health expert isn’t something anyone should be ashamed of.

During the ‘Miss Q and A’ segment of the noontime show, a contestant revealed that she had undergone counseling due to her declining mental health. The intervention worked, and her problems went away four years ago.

Vice then reminded the audience there is nothing wrong with seeking professional help when suffering from mental health issues.

Pag hindi mo alam yung nararamdaman mo, hindi mo rin alam anong gagawin mo. Kaya mas maganda kumunsulta,” Vice said.

Wag kayong mahihiya,” he added.

The host would like to see more people treat seeing a health expert like they do going to a dentist.

Going to a psychologist or a psychiatrist is just as normal as going to a dentist,” he said, noting that people these days are more vulnerable to developing mental issues.

Hindi yan nakakahiya. Bahagi iyan ng kalusugan natin. Kaya magandang kumunsulta tayo.

Ngayon, napakabilis para sa ating magka-issue sa mental health,” he added.

Viewers more than agreed with what Vice said.

Vice has always been an advocate of mental health awareness.

In 2018, he admitted that he almost quit his job as everything was becoming too much for him.

Last year, Vice told Ogie Diaz that the pandemic took a toll on his mental health and that he would cry without knowing the reason.

Ang alam ko lang malungkot ako. Ang alam ko lang hindi ako okay. It just happens na wala kang magagawa. There is a war going on outside so hindi ka talaga lalabas,” he said.

Ganun kapag may giyera. Hindi ka namang pwede, ‘Eh ano kung may giyera eh bagot na ako? Eh ‘di rampa ako.’ Hindi naman pwedeng ganun. Bagot ka or hindi, kapag may giyera, magtatago ka.”

He also said that making people happy is his main goal in life, nothing more, nothing less.

Inilalaban ko kasi mahal na mahal ko yung ginagawa ko. Mahal na mahal ko yung ‘Showtime.’ Mahal na mahal ko ‘yung pagpapatawa. Kasama na siya sa paghinga ko. I am fighting for this because this is my life. I am fighting for my life.”
