Jennylyn Mercado, Atom Araullo react to Harry Roque’s claim that the country’s response to COVID-19 is ‘working’.

Roque: “It’s working. Because if we didn’t take steps, then millions would have fallen sick from COVID-19 like what UP initially predicted. It’s working because only a small number died from the disease”

Actress Jennylyn Mercado and Journalist Atom Araullo expressed their disapproval with Harry Roque’s claims about the effectivity of the country’s response to COVID-19.

“It’s working. Because if we didn’t take steps, then millions would have fallen sick from COVID-19 like what UP initially predicted. It’s working because only a small number died from the disease,” Roque said.

He released this statement despite the continuous increase of COVID-19 cases in the country.

Jennylyn Mercado said that if proper steps were made, fewer people would have been affected by the virus. She also said that many lives were wasted, and many families lost their loved ones.

“If you had taken the right steps, libo libong Pilipino ang hindi magkakasakit,” the actress said.

“Only a small number died? Hindi lang sila numero. Madaming pamilya ang nawalan ng mga mahal sa buhay. Konting sensitivity naman po sana,” she added.

Atom Araullo was also dismayed by Roque’s statement.

“Comparing the results with the do-nothing scenario, literally the lowest bar, is not very comforting,” the journalist said.

As the quarantine measures slowly loosen up, COVID-19 cases in the country spiked up. As of this writing, there are already 65,304 confirmed cases with 22,067 recoveries and 1,773 deaths.

Given the figures, it becomes a problem as the government seems to take everything ‘positively’ and claiming that we are doing well.

Lately, Roque drew flak for rejoicing that we ‘won’ the fight against the UP COVID-19 cases prediction as the Philippines did not hit 40,000 cases at the end of June.

Meanwhile, Jennylyn and Atom have been very vocal with their opinions through their social media.

Jennylyn also slammed those Government officials who violated quarantine guidelines but did not face any punishment.

Atom, as a journalist, shares factual information to educate people further regarding the issues in society, like COVID-19.
