As the show was full of laughter and jokes, many people online did not find the host’s comedic lines and questions funny. Many comments on the YouTube upload of GGV were pointing out that Vice has been “rude,” “mean,” and “disappointing.”

Another Kapamilya host has defended the comedian.

Gretchen Ho took to Twitter to express her opinions regarding the way that Vice interviewed Roque.

Bravo @vicegandako

She also retweeted a post of a netizen wherein Vice’s interview was commended. Jude Mangilog said that his way of asking Roque frank questions is something that we need.

Vice Ganda’s interview with Harry Roque is the kind of showbiz that we need. Using the freedom to express to quiz politicians and officials and ask them frank questions on the way they acted in office. We need more of these shows.

But not everyone agrees with Gretchen as another netizen called her out, indicating that she just liked it because of  her “bias.”

You like what you saw with last Sunday’s GGV episode simply because that’s your bias. We speak according to our biases diba @gretchenho?

Gretchen then replied with an explanation of her side.

We need hosts & journalists who ask the hard questions. Some will like the answers, others may not. Either way, it’s important to have these platforms & shows to keep our public officials in check. That’s the media’s responsibility in a democracy: to keep power in check.

  • Harry Roque recently guested on Vice Ganda’s late night show, ‘Gandang Gabi Vice.’
  • He was given the chance to answer some tweets about him.

Former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque took a break from his stressful job to joke around with comedian Vice Ganda on ABS-CBN’s Gandang Gabi Vice last Sunday, October 14.

In one segment, he was given the chance to answer mean tweets from netizens, including an insult about his hair.

The tweet said, “Does Roque wear a wig? I mean, if this is a real haircut, I would rate it as destabilization plot by my hairdresser.”

Vice joked around and said “May problema ba kayo sa wig? Inaano ba kayo?” which led to Roque answering “Oo nga eh. Inggit lang kayo kasi mahal yung akin at technologically enhanced.”

When the comedian asked “So wig nga?”, the former spokesperson said that it’s not called wig but a “hair piece” which made the audience laugh.

Roque even added, “If you can afford it, use it.”

After the jokes, he admitted that he does want to run in the upcoming midterm elections, but the thing that’s keeping him from running is the confusion of what his boss, who is President Rodrigo Duterte, wants.

He clarified that he has the freedom to decide but he does want the support of the President. Duterte has told Roque that he won’t win should he run.

Harry Roque has resigned from his position on Monday, October 15, to run under a party list.

He announced that he will run for the Lower House under Luntiang Pilipinas party list, as the first nominee, and Senate President Tito Sotto’ s daughter, Ciara Sotto, as the second one.

Harry Roque admits that Pres. Rodrigo Duterte kissing a Filipina on the lips was “inappropriate”

  • Harry Roque said that there were times that he does think that the President is acting inappropriately.
  • The fomer spokesperson said that the reason he defended Duterte then was because it was his job.

Former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated that President Rodrigo Duterte‘s playful act of kissing a Filipina overseas worker in Korea was “inappropriate.”

Roque, who was replaced by Presidential Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo as spokesperson, did an interview with comedian and host Vice Ganda in his show Gandang Gabi Vice. He was asked if there were times when he thought that the President was acting inappropriately, and he answered “Of course, there was.”

The former spokesperson then mentioned the kissing incident that happened at a meeting with the Filipino community in Seoul, South Korea last June as one of the inappropriate things he thought of. He said that he “thought he was going to die” while he witnessed it.

“I thought I was going to die… I felt that I should have run and pulled him. ‘Come here, let us go here, Mr. President.'”

When he was asked why he defended the President then, he answered that it was his job. “I believe that serving the countrymen is through serving the president, which includes defending him when he did not do anything wrong.”

It can be remembered that Roque defended the President’s actions at that time by saying that there should be no malice with the incident. “The lady has clearly expressed the view that she was honored by the kiss.”

Is Harry Roque more qualified than Mocha Uson for the Senate?

Is Harry Roque more qualified than Mocha Uson for the Senate?

  • Harry Roque admitted that he thinks that he’d be a more qualified law-maker than Mocha Uson.
  • He has recently filed for candidacy for the lower house.

In a recent episode of Gandang Gabi Vice, Harry Roque answered questions regarding his interest in running for a position in the Senate.

The former Presidential Spokesperson admitted that he does want to take part in the upcoming 2019 midterm elections, however, he would need the support of his then boss, President Rodrigo Duterte.

Although at that time, the designation he wants to try for was still undetermined, comedian and host Vice Ganda asked him a difficult question. “So kunwari ho, isa nalang natitirang slot sa senado. Kunwari, meron nang 11 na sakto. Yun na, 11 na. Tapos dalawa kayo, isa nalang ang natitira. Dalawa nalang kayo ni Mocha Uson ang pinag-pipilian. Sino sa palagay niyo ang dapat manalo sa inyo ni Mocha Uson?”

Roque immediately answered, “Edi syempre ako.”

When he was asked why, he said that because he has qualifications as the Senate’s job is to make laws. “Hindi lang naman ako abogado. Nagtuturo pa ako ng batas at yung isang taon at kalahati na ako’y naging mambabatas, ako na yung pinaka-maraming batas na naisabatas na naka-apekto sa pang-araw araw na buhay ng mga Pilipino.”

Vice asked the question again, and Roque confidently answered, “Hindi lang kay Mocha o kaya kahit sino pa sa kanilang tumatakbo sa Senado.”

This earned applause from the live audience of the show.

Roque recently filed his certificate of candidacy to run as a representative of party-list Luntiang Pilipinas.

Harry Roque threatens to resign, Pres. Rodrigo Duterte tells him to go ahead

  • Harry Roque threatened to resign.
  • President Duterte said that he’s willing to let Roque go and find a replacement for the position.

After Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque’s short leave, President Rodrigo Duterte revealed that Roque actually told him that he will resign.

The reason behind it was because the spokesperson was said to have been kept in the dark regarding the President’s hospital visit last October 3. Duterte announced that Roque was one of the Cabinet members who want to run in the 2019 midterm elections.

“Kasi hindi ko man maintindihan. So I’m giving that margin of safety. Kasi sabi niya mag-resign siya because he didn’t know that I was in the hospital. So he was not informed.”

Duterte explained that he did not need to tell Roque everything.

“Hindi naman kailangan sabihin ko lahat eh. There are things which are limited to the immediate members of the family.”

The Chief Executive further said that if Roque decides to resign, he is willing to let him go and immediately choose a replacement.

“And sabi niya, mag-resign siya. Sabi ko ‘di sige. Then immediately I – namili na kaagad ako ng replacement but I cannot tell you now kung sino sila.”

The hospital visit that was mentioned was the one that happened last week at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City.

Panelo confirmed to reporters that he will take on the job as the President’s mouthpiece, a post that was initially given to him when Duterte assumed office in 2016.

  • Harry Roque told Mocha Uson’s critics to get ready.
  • He said that he will miss Uson but she promised to continue her advocacy.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. warned all the critics of former PCOO Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson on Wednesday, October 3.

After Uson has announced her resignation in a Senate hearing, she warned all her critics not to think that they had won. She vowed to get back at them.

Roque then said that he wishes Uson all the best and he will miss her. He added that Mocha critics should get ready as the former ASec said that she will still continue her advocacy.

“I wish her the best. I will miss her but she did make it clear na ipagpapatuloy po niya ang advocacy, lagot po silang lahat kay Mocha Uson.

“I wish the office well. We’re hoping that things happen for a reason and we’re hoping that the PCOO will continue with its mandate of communicating the good news from the Palace to the rest of the country.”

PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar also wished Uson well.

“Mocha is still a diehard Duterte supporter and I am one with her in that aspect. I wish her well.”

Uson said that her resignation will serve as a sacrifice in hopes of the approval of the proposed ₱1 Billion 2019 budget for the PCOO. It is pending approval from Congress which she blamed as composed of “leftist” lawmakers that have issues against her resulting in the delay of the budget’s approval.

Ogie Diaz slams Roque and Panelo, “Anlakas maka-elementary ng pag-iisip nyo”

Ogie Diaz slams Roque and Panelo, “Anlakas maka-elementary ng pag-iisip nyo”

  • Ogie Diaz told Panelo and Roque that they think like elementary students.
  • He also said that he misses the “old” Harry Roque.

On September 27, President Rodrigo Duterte stated that his only sin is the decision to do the extrajudicial killings for his war against drugs campaign.

ogie diaz calls out duterte

“Ako, I will talk to a political exercise now. What are your sins? Ako? Sabi ko nga sa military, ano kasalanan ko? Nagnakaw ba ako dyan ni piso? Did I prosecute na pinakulong ko? Ang kasalanan ko lang, yung mga extra-judicial killings.”

After the President received criticisms regarding his statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo immediately came to his defense, saying that it was only a joke and a mistranslation, since Duterte is not a Manileño and not a Tagalog.

Comedian and TV Personality Ogie Diaz reacted to the statements, saying that their way of thinking was immature. He also suggested that they should talk to the President so that he won’t “misinterpret” what he will say next time as he did not look like he was kidding in his initial statement.

Dear Atty. Harry Roque and Sal Panelo,

Diaz also asked why they kept on making Duterte say things if they’re just going to correct it afterwards.

He went on to say that he doesn’t think that Roque’s actions are helping him with his alleged Senatorial run next year.

Duterte claims that his only sin is EJK; Roque and Panelo come to his defense

Duterte claims that his only sin is EJK; Roque and Panelo come to his defense

  • President Rodrigo Duterte said that his only sins are the extrajudicial killings.
  • Harry Roque and Salvdor Panelo rushed to his defense.

On Thursday, September 27, President Rodrigo Duterte stated that his only sins are the extrajudicial killings.

In a speech in Malacañang, he asked everyone about their sins before making the remark.

Around 4,854 alleged drug suspects have been killed in the police’s anti-drug operations.

A few days ago, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV stated that the President will also go through the process of bailing for an arrest as there will come a time that he will pay for his sins.

“Kung maililigpit mo man ako, meron at merong papalit sa akin, at sa dakong huli ikaw rin ay matatalo at haharapin mo ‘yung mga kasalanang ginawa mo.”

Palace and Panelo defend.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque immediately defended President Duterte’s words, saying that he was “not serious” about what he said.

“Alam mo naman si Presidente, ano. Hindi na naman iyan seryoso ‘no… I don’t think na ang konteksto niyan ay literal.”

On the other hand, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said that the statement was just misinterpreted.

“Ang sinasabi niya lang, iyan lang ang issue niyo sa akin, EJK. Ang isyu niyo lang sakin bilang presidente ng bansa ay extrajudicial killing.

“It’s a matter of language. He’s a Visayan, he’s not a Manileño, he’s not Tagalog.”

Panelo added that the misinterpretation is a way for the critics to “put [Duterte] in bad light.”

“You have to take everything in context in reference to his previous statements, in reference to his SONA speech.

“He said he declares war [on drugs], but there will be hell to pay for abusive police officers.

“They’ll be using everything and anything that will put him in bad light. That is the job of critics, that is the job of detractors.”

Palace to Enrile, Bongbong: “You cannot twist history.”

Palace to Enrile, Bongbong: “You cannot twist history.”

  • Harry Roque contradicts Enrile’s claims of only having “very few” critics arrested during martial law.
  • The Presidential Spokesperson also said that Enrile cannot change history as there is a law and court decisions attesting to everything.

In a recent tête-à-tête with former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile claimed that “very few” of the late President Ferdinand Marcos‘ critics were arrested during martial law.

He added that they were only detained due to their “criminal acts.”

In a Malacañang press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque debunked Enrile’s claims and said that there are laws and court decisions that prove the human rights violations during that period in Philippine history.

“As far as the Palace is concerned, there are decisions affirming that there were grave human rights violations committed during the Marcos regime. There’s even a law in Congress which provides compensation for victims of martial law.”

He added that Marcos and Enrile cannot twist such happenings.

“I don’t think they can twist history when there’s a law and there are court decisions attesting to what happened under martial law.

Albay Representative Edcel Lagman also slammed the former Senate President, calling him a “a purveyor of lies and fallacies.”

“Senator Enrile has graduated from being the administrator of martial law to a purveyor of lies and fallacies of martial law.

“He demeans the People Power Revolution which was a culmination of years of struggle for freedom under the Marcos dictatorship. How can he possibly put to naught the efforts of the Filipinos who joined the EDSA revolution and then he would say that it’s a military junta?” Lagman said.

“He really was there in order to protect his neck because he was certain that the People Power Revolution would succeed.”

“Bobo kasi itong mga pari.” Palace defends Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s joke about Benguet church and priests

“Bobo kasi itong mga pari.” Palace defends Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s joke about Benguet church and priests

  • President Duterte blamed the priests for the collapse of a church in Benguet.
  • Presidential Spokesperson stated that people should not take Duterte’s words seriously all the time.

President Rodrigo Duterte slams the Catholic Church once again as he blamed the priests regarding the collapse of the church in Itogon, Benguet.

On Sunday, he said that if they only changed the priests in the area, the building would not collapse.

“There is an evolving story in Itogon, Barangay Ucab, 43 persons doon , nag-collapse ‘yung church. Sa totoo lang, kung pinalitan ninyo ‘yung pari diyan, hindi magbagsak ‘yang simbahan na ‘yan.”

He also called the priests stupid.

“Bobo kasi itong mga pari.”

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque defended the President’s words and told people to not take it too seriously as he thinks that Duterte was just joking.

“Ang tingin ko naman po hindi seryoso ang Presidente. Let us not always take his word seriously.”

This was not the first time that the President lashed out on the institution as he called the Catholic Church the “most hypocritical institution” before.

“I’ll tell you, the most hypocritical institution in the Philippines is the Catholic Church.”

The collapse was due to Typhoon Ompong (international codename Mangkhut) that made a landfall in the Philippines last Saturday, September 15.
