Four leading ladies from ABS-CBN are competing in this year’s Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards for a Philippines exclusive recognition.

The four nominees in the Favorite Trending Pinoy category are Liza Soberano from “Alone/Together,” Julia Barretto who starred in “Ngayon at Kailanman,” Kathryn Bernardo from “The Hows of Us,” and mainstay Yassi Pressman of “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.”

Ella Cruz, Hannah Pangilinan, Kristel Fulgar, and Ranz Kyle & Niana Guerrero, on the other hand, are in the running for another local category, Favorite Pinoy Internet Star.

Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards is an annual American event created for kids to allow them the power to support their favorite celebrities across various categories including TV shows, movies, music artists, and sports personalities.

Public voting will decide the winners and fans can vote using Twitter, by using (hashtag) KCA and the hashtag of their nominee. They can also cast their votes through the Nickelodeon website.

Winners will be announced during the awards ceremony which will be aired in Asia at 6 p.m. on March 25.

Past nominees from the Philippines have included Jake Zyrus (Charice Pempengco), who won the very first Favorite Asian Act award in 2012, Sarah Geronimo (2013), Anne Curtis (2014), and Daniel Padilla (2015) who won the global Slime-A-Star award, Maine Mendoza (2016) for Favorite Pinoy Personality and Nadine Lustre (2017) as Favorite Pinoy Star.

When you think about famous celebrities, you would normally think that they only mingle with other famous celebrities and ride expensive luxury cars, but not Julia Francesca Barretto Baldivia, or better known as Julia Barretto.

On her way to a Coldplay concert back in 2017, she and her close friend Erich Gonzales rode a ‘habal-habal’ (motorcycle ride for hire) to get to the said concert. The motorcycle driver is also called an ‘Angkas’ driver.

‘Angkas’ is “an on-demand roadside courier service using a reliable motorcycle booking app, kind of like Uber but with single motorcycles.” Riding in a motorcycle can absolutely save someone’s time considering the worsening traffic in Manila.

Even if they will surely face the density of Manila’s immense dust and smoke from traffic congestion, they still chose to ride motorcycles driven by complete strangers.

This was originally uploaded and shared by a driver name Chello on a Facebook page, garnering thousands of views. It was reuploaded recently by Usapang Motorsiklo, a page dedicated to motorcycle riders.

The said video caught Julia Barretto happily riding the motorcycle while clinging tight to the lucky driver and earning praises from netizens for her down-to-earth attitude.

But not everyone seems to feel that way towards Julia Barretto throughout social media. People are calling her “Maarte,” and some even went as far as creating hateful accounts just to bash the said actress.

So what does she feel with all this misguided hate towards her? Well, in one of the episodes on the defunct Aquino-Abunda show, Kris Aquino asked her if she’s hurt by all the hate she’s receiving.

She answered, “It’s not easy to be a celebrity, mahirap kasi ‘yung maraming nagdya-judge sa ‘yo na hindi ka naman kilala nila at all.”

The actress explained, “But you can’t explain yourself to everybody, and ayaw mo rin, eh, kasi they don’t deserve to be given an explanation about yourself. But, you know what, I’m being me.”

She also added, “Honestly, what I think is it’s better to be yourself and be different because that’s what’s going to set you apart from everybody else.”

In 2013, the Star Magic batch launched the three brightest stars in showbiz today, namely Liza Soberano, Julia Barretto, and Janella Salvador. The three remained close friends.

During Liza’s interview on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” aired last Thursday, she was asked whether they talked about boys when they talked and got together.

While suppressing a laugh, Liza answered they in fact do and gave an example of their conversations.

“Julia will tell me something about Joshua. It’s a struggle for her also na sobrang conservative si Joshua sa damit niya. She asked me, ‘Does Quen have that problem, too? Is he conservative with you?’ I’m like, ‘Yes, he’s like that also,’” she narrated.

For Liza, perception of their partners to be conservative is being protective for someone they love because it’s a way of showing their affection and care for that person.

“I think it would be normal for any guy to be protective of someone they care about because that just shows that they love or they care about that person,” Soberano said.

During her conversation with Julia, she recalls that she told her, “Yes, he (Gil) is conservative, but I don’t think he is as conservative as Joshua, because Quen gives me the freedom naman to wear what I want.”

Even if Julia has preferred to use nipple tape than a bra, her boyfriend still wants to see her in less revealing clothes; unlike Liza who has the freedom to wear any clothes she wants despite Gil being conservative.

On the same interview in “Tonight with Boy Abunda,” Liza Soberano confirmed that they have been officially together since 2014 and has recently admitted their relationship to the public.

Julia then explained her side in an amusing answer, saying that the bra won’t have anything to hold on to anyways.

“Ako naman din walang kakapitan ‘yung bra.

“So mas masakit talaga kasi nagtatry naman yung bra ko eh, pero wala talaga syang makapitan.”

She also said that she only learned to wear cycling shorts from her partner and that her fashion style is one of her ways of expressing herself.

“Sa bra naman, pwede naman, mag-baby bra ka na lang,” Garcia joked.

“Tignan mo pati nga baby bra di kumakapit sa ‘kin, kaya nga tape lang nga, eh.”

Netizens expressed their amusement regarding Barretto’s answer and some of them even said that they can relate to.

Young stars Elmo Magalona and Paul Salas are just two of the most talked-about personalities of this generation. But recently, these two weren’t just trending because of their impressive projects, but also because of accusations made against them.

Elmo and Paul are both alleged to have committed battering and hitting their respective girlfriends, namely Janella Salvador and Barbie Imperial.

Paul’s controversy came first as Barbie Imperial, his then partner, posted a series of photos on Instagram with the caption, “No to physical abuse. NEVER AGAIN.”

It included bruises on her body, as well as scratches.

Both young men have decided to stay mum regarding the allegations and people have been implying that their decision to keep quiet about the matter may affect their careers. It may result to the issue hounding them for a long time.

Kris Aquino is making a movie comeback with I Love You, Hater starring Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia.

At the press conference of the said movie last June 18, the cast talked about their characters and the memorable moments on set.

Kris was then asked if she’s going to have a Kapamilya comeback soon because she hasn’t appeared on the television for quite a while.

The actress started off her answer with “Don’t expect anything”.  She stated that she’s fully aware of the realities of life and she also knows that the network’s franchise is at stake.

“I also know that their franchise is at stake. I’m being so honest. Diretsahan na yan so why would they risk it by giving me a show?”

ABS-CBN‘s franchise will expire in 2020 and President Rodrigo Duterte has said strong statements about how he will block the renewal of the contract, which is still pending in the Congress.

Kris said that even though she has no issues with the president himself, she’s not exactly liked by his supporters, so she understands why the network doesn’t give her television appearances.

“Especially na kahit wala naman kaming issue ni presidente, hindi naman ako type ng supporters niya. So naiintindihan ko kung bakit wala.”

She mentioned that even if she doesn’t have much television exposure nowadays, people do see her every night as she is always online. The queen of all media stated that she has 53 brands supporting her, and she would like to thank them for she is also a businesswoman.

“Pero they see me every night if they want to. I’m online. And I have 53 brands supporting me. And I want to say thank you to them because I’m also a businesswoman.

Alam ko naman na hindi ako kukunin for this movie [if] i have not proven myself on digital because the goal of the character as they said “the digital empress” so they wanted that and I was able to give it to them because I’m the embodiment of that.

Nagawa ko dahil ako yung nauna. Dahil nga walang choice, kaylangan gawin. But I’d like to say that I was able to do it because of the businesses who supported me and I wanna say thank you to them.”

Kris also took the time to thank the fans for their continuous support for her and her online ventures.

“And I’d also like to thank yung mga [fans] kasi kung walang nagcli-click, wlang nagview-view, at walang nagshe-share, hindi ako naka-upo dito ngayon.”

I Love You, Hater is scheduled to open in cinemas on July 11.
