GMA Films is now back from their hiatus that started after the release of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza‘s Imagine You and Me.
The filming has started for the principal photography for the production’s comeback movie, Kambal, Karnabal, starring Derrik Monasterio, Super Tekla, Kiray Celis, Jo Berry, and Kim Domingo. It is directed by Adolf Alix Jr.
It is said that this will mark the start of GMA Films continuous production of movies.
Monasterio shared that he’s very excited about the comeback movie and he’s thankful for those who trusted his skills as an actor.
GMA Films produced some award-winning movies such as Jose Rizal, Muro-Ami, Sa Pusod ng Dagat, Death Row, and a few more others.
After Felipe Gozon took over the film production branch of GMA Network, it was placed on hiatus for about five years.
As they have put out successful movies, they have also produced not-so-successful movies such as Boy Pick-Up: The Movie starring Ogie Alcasid, My Kontrabida Girl starring Rhian Ramos and Aljur Abrenica, Patient X starring Richard Gutierrez and Cristine Reyes, Batanes: Sa Dulo Ng Walang Hanggan starring Iza Calzado and Taiwanese actor Ken Chu of Meteor Garden.

She expressed her thankfulness to her previous company and why she made the decision to move to ABS-CBN. “I’m grateful for all my years with [GMA-7], but [my father] was the one with me in wanting new things for me and my career. He wanted me to spread my wings and fly.”
More than a decade ago, Jake has moved from GMA-7 to ABS-CBN. He has been cast in numerous dramas like Maria Mercedes, Rubi, and Palos, wherein he played the main lead, and Ikaw Lamang and Tayong Dalawa as the antagonist.
Not everyone knows that Cristine’s entry to showbiz has been with GMA-7’s artista search program, Starstruck.
She transferred networks 10 years ago and has top-billed several projects such as Eva Fonda, Kristine, Reputasyon, Tubig at Langis, and I Can Do That.

JC has stayed as a Kapuso for six years then transferred to TV5. He finally became a Kapamilya in 2014 and played a role in The Legal Wife and Moon of Desire.
Ellen signed with ABS-CBN last 2013. She admitted that her transfer to the network made a huge impact regarding the recognition she got.
“When I was with the other network, ‘What are you doing now? What are your shows?’ ‘Uh, I’m a part of this show.’ ‘Ay, nandoon ka pala!’ Ibe yung audience ng ABS-CBN talaga. Iba yung impact.”
Toni has hosted in GMA-7 for seven years until 2005. She continued her career with ABS-CBN, venturing to acting and music. She has released six albums under Star Records and has starred in 11 Star Cinema films.

His first project with the Kapamilya network was the TV series Born for You, wherein he was paired with Janella Salvador for the first time.
Just like her brother, Maxene was also a Kapuso turned Kapamilya, however, she actually started off in ABS-CBN in 1992 with Ang TV. She was then identified with GMA-7 for nine years before signing up with ABS-CBN in 2016.
Karylle has co-hosted GMA-7’s SOP for seven years. She is currently in It’s Showtime.
Anne was a Kapuso until 2003. She has lead Kapamilya shows such as Kampanerang Kuba, Maging Sino Ka Man, Dyosa, Green Rose, Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw, and Dyesebel.
She can be seen regularly in noontime show It’s Showtime.
Liza has previously admitted that she “didn’t feel at home” in GMA-7, wherein she became an artist for only a week. She added that as ABS-CBN’s the one she always watches, it’s really where she wanted to work in the first place.
After winning Pinoy Pop Superstar, Jona has been one of GMA-7’s most promising singers. She then joined the trio La Diva.
She made a shocking transfer to ABS-CBN in 2017, saying that the network gave her more trust and has promised her a line-up of projects.
Yassi has spent almost a decade with GMA-7 and TV5 before making her way to ABS-CBN. She has become a household name after appearing in Pinoy Big Brother and becoming a part of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.

Jaya decided to leave GMA-7 after she concluded her final project with the network, Poor Señorita. Her appearance in It’s Showtime in 2016 marked as her surprising decision to switch networks.
After being out of the limelight when he left GMA-7, Ogie has been with TV5 for a while before returning to ABS-CBN, where he did a few shows in the 90s.
He became a judge of Tawag ng Tanghalan and talent show Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids.

He has also appeared as a guest in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
Needing some freshening up, Janno made a switch and signed with Star Music, wherein he’s currently promoting his latest single, Feeling JKL. He has also appeared in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano and other ABS-CBN shows.

Star Magic Ball has been one of the most-awaited and talked-about occasions in the Philippine entertainment circle since 2006.
A lot of issues happened. There were fights, controversies, and rumors in the past years. There were a lot of couples who attended the gathering who eventually went on their separate ways.
Here are some updates about Kapamilya couples who showed up together as dates at the Star Magic Ball 2009:
Shaina Magdayao and John Prats.
The couple were together for two years but ended their relationship in December 2009. Shaina had a relationship with actor John Lloyd Cruz and ended in 2012.
She has been linked to heartthrob Piolo Pascual but never confirmed their relationship.
John Prats, on the other hand, dated celebrities such as Rachel Ann Go and Bianca Manalo before settling down with Isabel Oli, to whom he is now expecting a second child.
Anne Curtis and Sam Milby.
Sam and Anne (SamAnne) were in a four-year relationship before they opted to split-up for good in 2011. In spite of their past, the two remained good friends and starred in several projects together.
Sam dated model Mari Jasmine, but he is currently single. Anne is now happily married to businessman and vlogger Erwin Heussaff.
Angelica Panganiban and Derek Ramsey.
The couple were together for six years and broke-up in February 2012. Derek ended up dating actress Cristine Reyes for a while.
Angelica entered in a relationship with John Lloyd Cruz but broke up in March 2016. The actress is currently being linked to ex-boyfriend and loveteam partner, Carlo Aquino.
Billy Crawford and Nikki Gil.
After 5 years, Billy and Nikki broke up in 2013.
Both are now married. Nikki with businessman BJ Albert, to whom she had a child in 2017, while Billy recently tied the knot with Coleen Garcia.

One thing we all know is the entertainment industry is kind of unpredictable. If one contract expires, it can be a possibility that he or she will transfer to a rival network.
The most common “artist exchanges” happening are between the two biggest television companies in the country, ABS-CBN and GMA 7.
So who are the stars that nearly transferred to other channels?
John Lloyd Cruz
According to Direk Lauren Dyogi, Actor John Lloyd Cruz was rumored to leave the Kapamilya network way back in 2002.
The director, who is currently ABS-CBN’S TV Production Head, was also John Lloyd’s director in a series called Gimik. Even though the actor had been considering, he was convinced to stay with his current network as he was given a big break back then, which was the prime-time series Kay Tagal Kitang Hinintay, which was aired on the same year.
The rumors resurfaced when Cruz turned down a role in the 2014 teleserye, Bridges of Love, because his contract was meant to end that year. But eventually, he renewed his contract in 2015 as he did more projects and movies in Star Cinema.
The actor is currently on and indefinite leave from showbiz.
Actress and host Angelica Panganiban was first rumored to sign with GMA 7 after making a special guest at the Kapuso adventure show Extra Challenge, but it was proven false as she remained loyal to ABS-CBN.
Last May 2016, Panganiban revealed that she did once consider switching networks after her break-up with actor John Lloyd Cruz.
However, because of her huge respect for her mother company for more than 20 years, she decided to stay.
“Muntik na nga akong lumipat ng network pero dahil may respeto ako sa ABS, sige hindi na lang ako lilipat. Magre-retire na lang ako,”
In the year 2013, rumors of actor Dingdong Dantes started surfacing. He was said to transfer to ABS-CBN after being one of GMA 7’s top actor for around 18 years already.
In an interview last June 2013, he admitted that his manager was negotiating with both ABS-CBN and GMA 7 while he was preparing for his drama series Genesis. He was said to fully transfer to the Kapamilya network because he has worked with Star Cinema before, which is ABS-CBN’s movie subsidiary.
He has released two movies with them which was Segunda Mano and One More Try.
The actor ended the speculations when he renewed his contract with the Kapamilya actor in September of the same year.
He still appears in Star Cinema movies.
Yes, the Queen of All Media herself has been rumored to transfer from ABS-CBN to GMA 7 or TV5 before.
The first speculations appeared last 2013 when it was rumored that TV5 has offered the actress and host to be their president. It was also said that she is actually considering moving to GMA-7.
The words intensified when she started posting phrases on her Instagram account regarding decision making.
Later on, Kris clarified that even though she met with TV5’s Manny Pangilinan twice, she never met with the GMA executives.
She remained signed as a Kapamilya actress.
Dennis Trillo admitted last December 2012 that he was having negotiations and thoughts regarding his next career move. Speculations arose at that time as he only had one year remaining in his contract with GMA 7.
What added fuel to the fire as when he was asked about his thoughts if his manager transferred him to either TV5 or ABS-CBN. His answer was “It’s okay… but what I would choose more is ABS. Of course what you will think about is your mileage as an artist. Good things happen in ABS, right? Their shows have lots of viewers. So I would choose that, if ever (it happens).”
However, the actor decided to stay with GMA 7.
Actor Ian Veneracion is someone that likes to explore his career and transfer to various networks.
Veneracion first signed with GMA 7 back in 1986 and joined the late German Moreno in That’s Entertainment. 17 years later, he transfered to ABS-CBN and appeared in the drama series Darating Ang Umaga, but only a year later, he went back to GMA 7.
However, he once again moved to ABS-CBN in 2007, and returned to their rival network in 2008.
In 2011, Veneracion made a comeback at ABS-CBN wherein he became a talent of Star Magic. He appeared in the remake of the popular drama Pangako Sa’yo and the rom-com The Achy Breaky Hearts. He currently appears in the drama A Love To Last.
Recently, it has been speculated that the actor will once again transfer networks after talent manager Perry Lansingan posted a photo with him and Lilybeth Rasonable, who is the senior vice presindent of the Kapuso network.
The actor quicky shut down the rumors as he stated that Lansingan is his neighbor in Tagaytay. He exclaimed “No. Lagot ka kay Tita Malou!” at one press conference as he was asked if he’s really planning his return to GMA 7. Malou Santos is the chief operating officer of Star Creatives.
He stated that he’s happy with the roles that are given to him under his current network and they have been very kind to him.
Veneracion is currently busy preparing for his upcoming concert.
It was rumored that the Asia’s Songbird was transferring to ABS-CBN when the network held a press conference about her guest appearance in Maalaala Mo Kaya. The speculations intensified when the singer cried while singing at one of GMA 7’s variety shows, SOP, back in 2008.
It was said that Regine Velasquez was planning to transfer to the Kapamilya network as she was interested on playing the lead role in the channel’s adaptation of Betty La Fea.
In ABS-CBN’s talk show, The Buzz, Velasquez admitted that she was interested on doing the adaptation but denied that the network offered her a 25 Million peso talent fee.
Judy Ann Santos
During actress Judy Ann Santos’ press conference regarding the finale of her telenovela, Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala, she encountered the speculations of her transferring networks. She took responsibility for the early exit of her series because of ABS-CBN’s original plan to move it to the fourth timeslot.
She said that her with her mother studio for more than 20 years was already expired and admitted that she became open negotiating with other networks.
“Honestly, nakakataba ng puso na, alam mo iyon, ang daming gustong kumuha sa iyo, kumuha sa serbisyo mo.”
A month after the press con, she renewed her contract with the Kapamilya network.
Jericho Rosales left Star Magic in 2006 and the rumors of his network transfer started floating immediately after that.
In one interview, he admitted that even if he still has a soft spot for ABS-CBN, he’s torn about the offers of different networks.
However, in another interview, he finally said that his transfer did not push though as he decided to remain loyal to the Kapamilya channel.
He is currently busy filming for his upcoming teleserye Halik.
Back in 2016, rumors rose that John Prats was interested on tranferring to GMA 7.
One of GMA-7’s creative consultants, the late Jake Tordesillas, even tweeted clues about his transfer such as “to follow look at the rainbow for a happy heart.”
Later that year, it was found out that the actor was supposed to be a part of the drama-comedy series Juan Happy Love Story.
With his aborted transfer to GMA-7, Prats joined the cast of the Kapamilya prime-time series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
John has since ventured into directing events such as the concerts of Moira dela Torre, K Brosas, and Richard Poon.
It was said back in 2016 that actress Kris Bernal was negotiating about her possible contract with ABS-CBN.
In one interview, she failed to answer this question but she did mention that she was exploring new ideas and plans for her career growth.
The actress never gave a statement about this but GMA confirmed that she will be staying at the network as she’s set to be the lead character of the series Impostora.
Last year, she finally admitted that she did meet up with ABS-CBN but decided to remain as a Kapuso star.
In 2013, Lovi Poe was rumored to transfer to TV5 as she allegedly got a 35 Million peso offer. Fuel added to the fire as she was replaced by Bela Padilla in the series Love & Lies.
In early May of the same year, Poe appeared in TV shows of ABS-CBN to promote her movie The Bride and The Lover, which fueled even more rumors that she would leave GMA 7.
In an interview during the premiere night of the movie, which is directed by Joey Lamangan, the actress kept mum regarding the issue, saying that she is happy to promote her film with the Kapamilya network.
During the last quarter of May 2013, Lovi finally ended the rumors by signing a three-year contract with GMA 7.
After a her feud with some cast members of the ABS-CBN gag show, Banana Split, Cristine Reyes openly expressed her desire to return to the Kapuso network.
Reyes was very vocal about her plans as she stated that she left her hear in GMA 7.
However, her network transfer did not materialize and instead, she renewed her contract with the Kapamilya network in July 2009.
Cristine remained a Kapamilya for the next nine years but she is currently not active on TV.
Diether Ocampo‘s network transfer rumors started in late 2008 when he finished his ABS-CBN teleserye Iisa Pa Lamang.
According to reports, Ocampo signed a maximum four-year contract with the Kapuso network and was supposed to be part of the Pinoy adaptation of the Koreanovela All About Eve.
A few days after the report came out, Star Magic made a statement that the actor won’t transfer to the rival network. He remained with ABS-CBN until early 2015.
In late 2015, it was announced that his project with Judy Ann Santos titled Someone To Watch Over Me would be postponed. After that incident, he started doing projects with TV5, including the 2016 drama series Bakit Manipis Ang Ulap.
In late 2017, Ocampo made a TV comeback via GMA 7’s Magpakailanman and in March 2018, Diether returned to ABS-CBN for a special role in the fantasy series Bagani.
When Kapuso actor Kristoffer Martin started tweeting about his career, speculations were fueled that he will be transferring to the Kapamilya network.
Rumors about his transfer intensified when Martin had a reunion with the producers of Little Big Superstar, the Kapamilya reality show he joined in 2006, which launched his showbiz career.
His ex-girfriend Joyce Ching revealed that the actor did think about returning to ABS-CBN to continue his career.
“Pero hindi naman talaga yung muntik na, na andito na yung contract, hindi pinirmahan, hindi naman po ganung level.
Pero iyon, siguro nag-e-explore din siya kung saan siya mas magwo-work, mas magiging okay ang career niya.”
The actor remains to be a talent of GMA 7.

StarStruck is the first, the original and perhaps the most successful reality-based artista search in Philippine TV. This competition lasted for seven seasons including the one for StarStruck Kids. The reality show launched the career of some of the brightest stars in the country today.
The recent reunion of StarStruck Batch 1 in GMA Network’s newest talk variety show ‘Basta Everyday Happy’ gave their loyal fans a chance to check on the lives of these former celebrity aspirants. Below’s a quick glimpse on what happened to StarStruck Season 1 graduates after the show gave them their much-awaited shot in the limelight.
Jennylyn Mercado is undoubtedly the most successful in the first batch. Finishing the competition as the Ultimate Female Survivor, Jennylyn turned out to be one of the country’s best dramatic actress. She currently stars in the top-rating Kapuso primetime series ‘Rhodora X’.
Mark Herras was crowned as StarStruck Season 1’s Ultimate Male Survivor. His talent in dancing earned him the title ‘Badboy of the Dancefloor’ and a mainstay of GMA’s variety shows starting from the now defuncts ‘SOP,’ ‘SOP Gigsters’ and ‘Party Pilipinas’ to the current Sunday musical variety show ‘Sunday All Stars.’
Cristine Reyes was the second to be included in the first batch’s Avengers. Being one of the first to be eliminated in the competition, Cristine climbed her way to stardom after consistently getting mature roles specially when she joined ABS-CBN in 2008.
Nadine Samonte was immediately groomed to be a dramatic actress right after graduating from StarStruck. She starred in multiple afternoon drama series in GMA but later on decided to join the growing Kapatid Network, TV5. She’s now rumorred to return to her home network after three years with TV5.
Yasmien Kurdi ended up as the season’s First Princess and eventually crowned as GMA Drama Princess for her multiple hit drama series in the Kapuso Network. At the peak of her career, Yasmien decided to take a hiatus in showbiz to focus on her studies and later on returned to showbiz after giving birth.
Katrina Halili was casted as a sexy villain in various GMA TV series including ‘Darna,’ ‘Majika’ and ‘Marimar.’ She also bagged FHM Philippines’ Sexiest Woman for two straight years – 2006 and 2007. After a video scandal involving her and Hayden Kho, Katrina’s career eventually slow down.
Sheena Halili has been getting supporting roles after the competition but her most notable to date was when she played Monica in the hit primetime remake of ‘Marimar’. She was even offered to be a Regal contract star after the soap ended. Sheena’s now taking mother roles in her recent projects still with GMA.
Rainier Castillo completed the season’s Final Four as the First Prince. His ‘killer smile’ and F4 hairstyle easily earned him thousands of fans. Soon after being casted in multiple shows in GMA, Rainier signed a three-year contract with TV5 but is still struggling to get a new break.
Dion Ignacio is consistently getting projects with GMA and is seemed to be satisfied with supporting roles. He was tapped to be in a leading man post in the afternoon drama ‘Magdalena’ opposite Bela Padilla but was not given a follow up role after doing so. At least, he’s loyalty with GMA is continuously being paid off as he’s still seen in various shows every now and then.
Tyron Perez initially started as one of the teen hosts of ‘Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman’ before getting his big break with StarStruck. Upon graduating, Tyron then starred in indie films ‘Twilight Dancers’ and ‘Pipo’. He also joined ABS-CBN in 2010 but his career ended when he committed suicide in 2011.
Jade Lopez never really had a big break after StarStruck. The roles that she’s been getting are minor ones that people won’t care to remember. Still, Jade is blessed to get projects both from GMA and TV5.
Alvin Aragon was the first to be eliminated in the competition and never had a chance to showcase his talents. After StarStruck, he got embroiled in a lot of troubles and fathered a child with his then non-showbiz girlfriend. He’s now happily married to a former Sex Bomb dancer Izzy Trazona.
