Karen Davila denies Jay Sonza’s claims that Gabby Lopez sold all his shares in ABS-CBN

Karen Davila clarified that Gabby Lopez did not abandon ABS-CBN employees by selling his shares in the network.

  • In a Rappler fact check article, it was proven that the ABS-CBN chairman emeritus’ shares in the media giant and Lopez Holdings Inc have not changed.
  • Jay Sonza and a certain blog have posted the accusations online.

Broadcast Journalist Karen Davila tweeted a link to a Rappler article which states that Jay Sonza’s claims of Gabby Lopez selling all his ABS-CBN shares are false.

“Hindi po totoo na ibinenta po ni Ginoong Gabby Lopez ang kanyang mga shares sa ABSCBN para makaiwas sa pagkalugi tulad ng ikinakalat ng ilan. Fake News po iyon,” she wrote.

In a post on his Facebook page, Sonza stated that ABS-CBN chairman emeritus Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III abandoned the Kapamilya network and its employees by selling all his shares in ABS-CBN Corporation and Lopez Holdings Inc. last year, even way before the House Committee denied its application for a new franchise.

A blog post by website kidstva.com also spread the claim and uploaded a video montage that showed photos of ABS-CBN and Lopez. It accused the latter of deceiving and abandoning the media network’s artists and supporters that fought for the media giant’s franchise.

“Ayon ng mismo sa source ay naibenta na ni Gabby Lopez ang higit sa 49% shares nito sa buong ABS-CBN Corporations (sic) na matagal na nitong pinagplanuhan bago pa man magsara ang ABS-CBN,” it said.

The former television newscaster then posted a similar claim on his Facebook page on July 14.

“Alam nyo ba? Si Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III, last quarter ng 2019 at Marso 2020 pa lang naibinenta na lahat ng kanyang shares sa Lopez Holdings,” Sonza wrote.

The accusation was then debunked after Philippine Stock Exchange reports showed that Lopez has not sold his shares in ABS-CBN Corporation and Lopez Holdings Corporation. What changed were his shares in ABS-CBN Holdings Corporation.

It can be remembered that Sonza has also spread several fake claims against his former network, ABS-CBN.
