San Lazaro Hospital spokesman bashed for wearing makeup; netizens react

During his recent interview on ABS-CBN’s “TV Patrol,” SLH spokesman Dr. Ferdinand de Guzman, who tackled the new virus and the readiness of the hospital for nCov, could be seen wearing makeup.

The spokesperson of San Lazaro Hospital (SLH) in Manila has been bashed for supposedly prioritizing looking good on television amid novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) crisis.

During his recent interview on ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol, SLH spokesman Dr. Ferdinand de Guzman, who talked about the new virus and the readiness of the hospital for nCov, could be seen wearing makeup.

In a Facebook post that went viral, a certain Kris Asi criticized and made fun of the doctor.

Asi said: “Hindi naghanda si Doc sa interview. Ayaw niya mag-foundation at liptint. Ganda sa gitna ng delubyo.”

Another Facebook user with name “Jusme” also said: “Hindi halatang pinaghandaan ang panayam. Ganda sa gitna ng delubyo. Charot!”

But a lot of netizens defended the doctor and reacted to the bashers.

“He is a highly respectable physician and teacher in San Lazaro Hospital. Hindi naman siguro issue ang make up (which he does beautifully everyday with or without cameras) compared sa knowledge na binabahagi niya about sa virus na pwedeng pumatay sayo at kamag anak mo diba?”

“Halata namang filtered ang pic tbh (to be honest). Papansin lang yung nagpost.”

“Matagal na siyang naiinterview on different medical case, ganyan talaga siyang mag-make up. Ang importante lang naman ay kung ano ang sinasabi. Pintasero lang talaga ang karamihan ng mga netizens ngayon.”

“Takot ang karamihan ng mga pinoy sa mga intelehenteng usapan. Maghahanap sila ng kapintasan na sobrang babaw sa halip na makinig para matuto.”

“Nakakakungkot na katotohanan. Na kahit gusto mo silang i-educate, they will find reasons to shame people.”

“Nothing wrong with looking beautiful as long as you are doing your job well. A little make up never hurt anyone.”

“Exactly! Attended one of his lecture. Napakagaling nya and sobrang bait pa.”

“Superficial people. Mas nauuna pang nakikita ang physical na bagay kesa mga nai-contribute ng mga to.”

“Pilipinas ang third world country ng perfect ang mga tao.. pag di presentable sa interview lalaitin.. nag foundation lalaitin p din. Un sinasabi nya ang seryosohin sana natin.”

“Saw his interview on TV, I didn’t mind his appearance, instead I was caught by his calm voice. Sweet, sensible.”

De Guzman has been the spokesperson of SLH for more than 8 years.

The hospital is where the first confirmed patient suffering the new virus in the Philippines was taken.
