Netizen explains how Korina Sanchez doesn’t affect Mar Roxas’s campaign negatively

Last March 28, Facebook user Lisa Araneta shared her views on why having Korina Sanchez as a wife should not be taken as a point against a Mar Roxas presidency.

In the post, Araneta wrote that she doesn’t think that being married to the veteran broadcaster should be an election issue. To people who remark that they like Mar, save for his wife, Araneta retorts, “‘So you prefer Elenita Binay?”‘… Sometimes I add, ‘Which of Duterte’s mistresses do you want in Malacanan?’ or ‘Would you rather the American, Mr. Llamanzares, the one who says he will become Filipino only if his wife wins, be the First Gentleman?'”

“I am not a fan of Korina Sanchez,” Araneta clarified, “but whoever a man loves, he loves. And he should not be made to hide her.”

She further explained that it is only fair to compare candidates with candidates, but the spouses should be compared only to other spouses or companions. “Korina is not running against Poe, Duterte, and Binay.” She wrote. “She is ‘running’ against Elenita, Duterte’s mistresses, Llamanzares, and compared to them she is far more acceptable to people like me.”

Another Facebook user doesn’t think Korina affects Roxas’s campaign negatively. “Mar knew to capitalize on Korina before,” said Geraldine Santos. “He timed his courting Korina during 2004 senatorial elections campaign. I asked Mar’s CM [campaign manager] then if the timing was her (CM) idea. She said no. She said she even had to ask Mar if “totoo ba ‘yan” [Is it true love?]. Mar #1 in 2004. Korina didn’t negatively affect his 2004 campaign. Agree with you Sanchez has more pluses with CDEFG.”

Ime Cerillo, however, lamented that “I just wish he can rein her in if and when he becomes president. Korina is a scene stealer, just like Imelda Marcos. [Whom] a man brings with him to power can be destructive. Of course, the other wifeys are worst. How sad.”

A few commenters showed their support for Sanchez. “My comment here has always been: with whatever their views on Korina… Her achievements was done through her own sweat, it is not inherited, passed on or through a ‘family name’ basis,” replied Sophia Serapio.

Araneta's post, apparently, had captured the attention of Korina Sanchez herself. Sanchez supposedly sent this reply via a common acquaintance.

Duterte supporters, however, shared their negative reactions to the post. “You want to be respectful???” Anne Gayanelo angrily asked. “THEN BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR WORDS. Duterte has NO mistresses. His marriage from his first wife was annulled (just like Mar’s first), after which, he had a girlfriend!! – maybe one after another, and then now a live-in partner. BUT THEY WERE NOT MISTRESSES!! AND YES MANY PREFER THAT LIVE-IN PARTNER OF DUTERTE NOW WHO WORKS AS A DECENT NURSE BY THE WAY ABROAD THAN KORINA WHO ONCE ABUSED A HOUSEHOLD HELPER!!!”

Another apparent Duterte supporter clarified that “I believe Duterte said that if he wins his daughter Sara would serve as the first lady. Btw you may want to consider that there are many DECENT people who would actually not vote for Roxas. Obviously that point you made was not based on ‘critical thinking.'”
