LOOK: #Halalan2016 aspirants as ‘Game of Thrones’ characters

Although the campaign period has not yet officially started for the May 2016 presidential elections in the Philippines, the candidates have been busy in the past few months trying to gain popularity so they can win the hearts (and the votes) of Filipinos.

The political arena has been peppered by numerous issues affecting the presidential aspirants: Sen. Grace Poe’s disqualification case, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago’s cancer, DILG Secretary Mar Roxas’s alleged usage of Yolanda funds, Vice President Jejomar Binay’s allegedly overpriced Makati buildings, and Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s colorful language and threats of violence.

Some people couldn’t help but find similarities in these situations with that of the plot of internationally acclaimed fantasy drama TV series, Game of Thrones. Netizen Ria Redulla Fernandez matched some Game of Thrones characters with the aspirants for the top posts (president and vice president)—and the results are quite interesting.

Candidates for President

Rodrigo Duterte as Robert Baratheon

Good at conquering, probably on the good side, unapologetic, his bad behavior could be his downfall, has a lot of untrustworthy people lurking about him, sexist, adulterer, and other obvious parallels. (Caption credit: Ria Redulla Fernandez)

Grace Poe as Cersei Lannister

Wants to continue her father’s legacy, thinks she’s ready for leadership but everyone else doesn’t think so, can play that victim card pretty well. (Caption credit: Ria Redulla Fernandez)

Mar Roxas as Stannis Baratheon

Could maybe do the job but does not inspire love or hope from the masses, you were starting to consider him, but then he starts doing things that make you go “what the hell are you doing! Nooo, staaahp!!” (Caption credit: Ria Redulla Fernandez)
