GMA News gets called out by the niece of a fire victim over alleged false reporting and irresponsible journalism

Doray Delarmente took to Facebook on Friday evening, May 19, to call out GMA Integrated News, and one of its reporters, Jamie Santos, over alleged false reporting.

The niece of the victim lambasted the alleged false reporting made by the Kapuso Network, last Friday, May 19.

Doray Delarmente took to Facebook on Friday evening, May 19, to call out GMA Integrated News, and one of its reporters, Jamie Santos, over alleged false reporting. Delarmente made the post, following the unfortunate accident that affected her family, and the news report made by Santos for the news program, Saksi, last May 17.

“PERO HINDI KO ITO PALALAMPASIN GMA NEWS …. more particularly SAKSI & Reporter Jamie Santos!” Delarmente declared, noting that she grieved her uncle’s death.

She specifically pinpointed what she claimed to be false details in Santos’ report.

“Jamie Santos, you reported na “lumabas yung senior citizen, at bumalik ulit ng bahay.”

Delarmente exclaimed, “For the record, and based on all the witnesses na kasama sa bahay … HINDI SIYA NAKALABAS NG BAHAY. My uncle retired Police Brig. Gen. George Ancheta died inside … and HE DIDN’T HAVE A CHANCE TO GET OUT OF HIS HOUSE. Your FALSE REPORTING has been causing so much pain in our family. SO. MUCH. PAIN.”

She then accused Santos of irresponsible journalism, for not allowing family members to learn first about the victim’s unfortunate fate. This was before announcing his name on live television.

“You reported that my uncle DIED on LIVE TV …. without even confirming if alam na ng pamilya! His wife, who just got out of the house, was standing a few feet from you … and HINDI PA NIYA ALAM NA WALA NA ANG ASAWA NIYA. Sinisigaw niya yung pangalan ng asawa niya sa harap ng bahay,” Delarmente added, insisting Santos deliberately missed other family members who were around the vicinity of the burnt house and did not bother to consult with them first.

She also reprimanded Santos for being insensitive by allegedly forcing one of their house helpers to get interviewed right away on live television, while possibly being still under trauma.

“May trauma pa yung tao. Tuliro. Wala sa sarili. Lutang. Sa tingin mo makakakuha ka ng tamang impormasyon sa kanya?,” Delarmente asked.

Delarmente reiterated that she and her family are still in deep mourning, but she wants GMA News to correct their mistakes.

She aired out, “Nawalan na kami ng kapamilya … tapos nagdagdag pa kayo sa pasakit na nararamdaman namin.”

“I am airing this out because I WANT YOU TO RECTIFY YOUR MISTAKE. At sana… huwag niyo na itong uulitin sa ibang mga pamilya.,” she pleaded.

GMA News is yet to issue a statement regarding Delarmente’s complaints, as of this writing.
