Filipino bands, frontmen show support to their presidential bets Bongbong Marcos, VP Leni Robredo

As much as the popularity of a political bet affects their chances of pulling off a win in an election, celebrity supporters may likely affect, although not as much, the voter’s decision in picking the candidate to vote for.

Some frontmen of known Filipino bands are not missing the opportunity to let people know who they are supporting and most likely will vote for this coming May 9, 2022 polls.

As much as the popularity of a political bet affects their chances of pulling off a win in an election, celebrity supporters may likely affect, although not as much, the voter’s decision in picking the candidate to vote for.

Traditionally, most celebrities would rather silently support behind the camera, but some just want to make their stand public, in hopes to convince fellow voters. For this incoming election, it’s not just movie and television stars who openly express their support for their preferred candidates, while some just let their supporters read between the lines. More often than not, an artist or celebrity’s presence at a candidate’s campaign is taken as a statement of support.

Filipino bands, with their huge fan bases, definitely can make some changes by letting their fans know whom they are rooting for. For this election, we’ve seen new and veteran bands alike, declaring their allegiance to certain Presidentiables. Ely Buendia of Eraserheads, for example, has long hinted at his support for a Leni Robredo presidency, even before she filed her certificate of candidacy. Similarly, the present members of the ‘90s rock band icon, Rivermaya, are also all for Robredo. Ebe Dancel, former frontman of the band, Sugarfree, and The Company also expressed their support. Jugs Jugueta of ItchyWorms, and Kean Cipriano of Callalily also recently pledged support. Soloists Noel Cabangon and JK Labajo have also joined Leni Robredo’s campaign.

The son of the dictator and former Philippine president, Bongbong Marcos, on the other hand, have received support from two of the biggest Filipino bands of the 21st century. Power-belting rock band, AEGIS, recently supported the presidentiable during a campaign sortie his camp held in Pangasinan. It’s the same event ‘Sa’yo’ hitmakers, Silent Sanctuary, were also present.

Both Robredo and Marcos maintain a strong following from showbiz.

Marcos recently tapped former PBB host, Toni Gonzaga, as one of his endorsers. The host was reportedly paid PhP120 million.

Robredo, on the other hand, gets strong backing from various talents from different fields of local entertainment. Cherry Pie Picache, Jake Ejercito, Richard Juan, Agot Isidro, and Nikki Valdez, are just some of the many actors who openly endorse Robredo as the next president.
