People are hoping for the reconsideration of the policy requiring Filipinos to wear face shields whenever they step out of them as there is no systematic study proving that face shields can reduce COVID-19 transmission.
Medical anthropologist Dr. Gideon Lasco pointed out that all countries that have controlled their COVID situation never required their citizens to wear face shields.
“It’s time to end the Philippines’ baseless, inconvenient, and environmentally harmful face shield mandate, especially in outdoor spaces where there’s zero evidence of its benefit,” Dr. Lasco said in a recent tweet.
What do all countries that have controlled COVID have in common?
They never required face shields.
It's time to end the Philippines' baseless, inconvenient, and environmentally-harmful face shield mandate, especially in outdoor spaces where there's zero evidence of its benefit.

Pls Philippines enough of this face shield. We're the only country in the world that requires everybody to wear face shield in public.

People also mentioned the temperature and humidity in the Philippines which may make Filipinos breathless.
In a 40°C to 50°C humid temperature of the tropical island of the Philippines, using face shield makes us breathless. Prone na malusaw yang acetate, hindi ba? https://t.co/17x5u2fetV

Another netizen questioned Dr. Edsel Salvana‘s claim that countries that decided not to use face shields are in a much worse situation than the country.
Salvaña: In countries where people never used face shields COVID-19 deaths are "10 times (that in Philippines) per million population.”
Correct me if I'm wrong, but did Taiwan, Australia, and Vietnam mandate face shield use? I don't think this logic works.

Someone said that aside from it being uncomfortable, it is not good for the environment because of the plastic material.
About damn. Fvcking. Time. Imagine the waste of all these plastics! It's uncomfortable, it doesn't really help and only in the Philippines mandatory ang pagsuot ng face shield na 'to. Jusko 🤦♀️ https://t.co/aFqj3ImbGu

“Pinagkakakitaan lang talaga ang mga Pinoy ng mga mapagsamantalang negosyante from China and [the Philippines].”
Exactly ! The Philippines is the only country in the world which forces it citizens to use faceshield which are of no use, as long as one is wearing a facemask. Pinagkakakitaan lang talaga ang mga Pinoy ng mga mapagsamantalang negosyante from China and Phils.

A netizen pointed out how the Philippines has thousands of new cases every single day even with the use of face shields.
THIS. We're the only country using face shields, yet we have thousands of cases per day. Clearly it's useless. https://t.co/qo5FfLSM0f

The government previously based a policy on the 2020 study saying that 12 out of 62 community workers tested positive for the virus after visiting thousands of households in May 2020.
