Enchong Dee won’t lie and won’t be fake about his political views

Enchong said that just like in making films, all those who are involved need to have one direction in order to succeed, which is exactly what the country needs today.

Actor Enchong Dee has never been one to keep quiet on major issues affecting the country. In fact, he is one of the most outspoken celebrities in the show business and has proven that time and again.

During a virtual media conference for the iWant TFC original documentary series Trip to Quiapo last October 19, Enchong said that watching the news is a part of his routine.

“Bata pa lang ako mahilig na ako manuod ng news eh. Tapos at the same time, parang ang unfair na kumuha ka ng edukasyon mo tapos tinuturo sa ‘yo ng magulang mo kung ano yung tama a mali, pero bakit sa gobyerno natin bakit ganun? Kumbaga, ako naman, wala naman akong intention na (magsabi), ‘Okay, you’re a bad person. You’re a good person.’ Hindi ganun eh.” he said.

“Ang point ko lang, kung ano yung ginagawa niyo sa amin eh mangyayari sa ating lahat. Kumbaga damay rin kayo. So ang point ko lang, kung hindi niyo kami tutulungan, eh anong mangyayari sa atin di ba?” he added.

Enchong said that just like in making films, all those who are involved need to have one direction in order to succeed, which is exactly what the country needs today.

“Pag gagawa ng pelikula, kailangan may writer, may director, nasa isang direction kayo. Pagka nasa isang direction kayo, maganda yung kalalabasan. Pero kung kanya kanya kayo tapos nag-aaway away pa kayo dun mismo kunyari sa pre-prod o kaya sa post-prod, makikita yun sa pelikula eh. Lalabas yung pelikula na panget di ba? So ganun din yung kalalabasan ng bansa natin,” he said.

The actor likes being with people whom he can learn something from, but when it comes to voicing out his opinion, he said that he “won’t be fake and I won’t lie.”

“Pero kung meron tayong boses, meron naman tayong opinyon, gamitin natin para tulungan natin yung ibang tao na (mag-isip na), ‘Maybe may point siya.’ So ako lang, gamitin natin yung magagandang opinyon para mapabuti yung kalagayan nating lahat. I won’t be fake and I won’t lie pero I like hanging out with people that I can learn a lot from,” he said.

Back in August, he called the Duterte government a “stupid administration” for ignoring the public’s suggestions amid the pandemic.

He also called the government “arrogant” and “stupid.”

In 2018, he told Boy Abunda that “I voted for this president that we have.”

He is now known as a big supporter of Vice President Leni Robredo.

In the same year, Enchong said that there is something wrong when the country’s leaders are entertaining while the “entertainers lead the nation.”

Enchong has no problem playing characters that are less opinionated, which is the complete opposite of his real self. He was also delighted that he was given more freedom on how his character would act.

“I think I don’t mind kasi klaro sa akin kung ano yung mga dapat na responsibilidad ng mga tao. And by the end of the day it’s a character at masarap paglaruan. Kaya dito sa project na ito I’m very, very happy, I’m very, very honored to be part of kasi hinayaan nila ako maging exploratory when it comes to the character and the story,” he shared.

“Ang sarap. Sabi ko kay sir Ricky (Lee), direk Treb, ‘Hindi ito yung first and last ah (laughs)’ kasi na-enjoy ko talaga itong grupo na ito and I wish we have better options and we have better situations so we can finish the project. Pero as it is, andito tayo sa kalagayan na ‘to so we worked the best that we can to cater to our audience,” he added.

Trip to Quiapo is directed by Treb Monteras and is based on writer Ricky Lee’s bestselling scriptwriting manual of the same name.
