Many have been left jobless due to quarantine restrictions caused by the pandemic. It is now common for people to do other things just to have a stream of income, with most resorting to selling food.

People who literally have nothing however are forced to commit thievery so they can feed themselves, and their families.

Website Peace Gospel International reports of thievery happening in the province of Cebu.

Most of the locals did not have jobs even before the implementation of the quarantine so they have difficulties in purchasing food.

“The government only gave 3 kg (6.6 lb) of rice and 3 cans of sardines to every household which is not enough food to sustain the needs of every family,” the article said.

Reports of theft in the NCR have also circulated social media, but national police chief General Archie Gamboa said that this is all ‘fake news.’
