Agot Isidro, Chai Fonacier, Bituin Escalante, netizens slam police who shot a mentally-challenged man

The policeman shot the victim even after the residents of the area told them not to as the man is mentally challenged.

A policeman shot a retired military man after the latter allegedly pulled out a gun from his bag at a checkpoint in Quezon City.

The victim’s mother claimed that her son was suffering from post-traumatic disorder after being in the military during the Marawi siege in 2017.

According to the Quezon City Police District, the victim was a 34-year-old man named Winston Ragos and the suspect was identified as Police Master Sergeant Daniel Florendo Jr. who was assigned to Fairview Police Station 5.

The police report said that Florendo and four police trainees from Highway Patrol Group were manning the checkpoint on Maligaya Drive in Barangay Pasong Putik when Ragos approached the policemen and started shouting at them. The police officers asked him to go home but the victim allegedly attempted to pull a handgun from his bag.

The nearby residents could be seen and heard trying to stop the police from shooting by saying that the man was not mentally stable.

Celebrities reacted to the incident. Actress Agot Isidro described the incident as “heartless.”

Chai Fonacier was also disappointed with how the police handled it.
