NASA hopeful gets internship revoked for using cursing on Twitter and at NASA advisor

  • Would-be NASA intern gets offer revoked for using bad language
  • NASA is giving her another chance to reapply

Social media has gotten a lot of people in trouble, with some even losing their jobs. Just take a look at what happened to one overenthusiastic intern.

Millions of people want to work for NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and being offered an internship to work there is a dream come true for many.

When one Twitter user found out that she was accepted as an intern, she could not contain her excitement.

@naomiH_official tweeted, “EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP. I GOT ACCEPTED FOR A NASA INTERNSHIP.”

One Twitter user replied to her, saying, “Language.”

That person was actually Homer Hickam, a NASA aerospace engineer who trained astronauts and worked in spacecraft design. His memoir Rocket Boys became the basis for critically acclaimed film October Sky.

Naomi, unaware of who Homer was, replied in a rude manner. “Suck my dick and balls I’m working at NASA.” Homer replied, “And I am on the National Space Council that oversees NASA.”

Twitter users criticized both, saying that the Naomi could have been more professional and that Homer should take into consideration that she tweeted those foul words out of excitement.

Official NASA accounts were then tagged in the thread and everything went downhill from there. All the sudden the Naomi’s internship was revoked.

Hickam then made it clear that he had nothing to do with the revoking of the internship and was unaware that it had happened.

“I do not hire and fire at the agency or have any say on employment whatsoever,” he wrote, explaining that “the NASA hashtag her friends used… called the agency’s attention to it long after my comments were gone,” said Hickam.

Hickam also said that Naomi reached out to apologize to him which he also did in return.

NASA then stated that they will give the Twitter user another chance to reapply.
