Mom places babe inside a ‘batya’ so she could do household chores while watching over her child

  • Filipino mom places babe inside batya (basin) in order to eye her kid while doing household chores
  • Her landlord took the viral photo of her ‘heartbreaking’ plight and shared it online
  • Joanna Mae Andres said she did it for the safety of her child, taking the babe with her instead of leaving her alone in the house; netizens showered the two with groceries and a stroller

In a now viral-post, a netizen shared on Facebook one of the hardships a mother faces while she is alone and taking care of a young child, and doing household chores on top of it.

Facebook user Dexter Cainap posted photos of a mother doing the dishes outside her house with a baby next to her, placed inside a tub. He captioned the disheartening sight with, “Hirap pag walang katuwang sa pag-aalaga.

Cainap, landlord of the viral housewife, told Dano Tingcungco of Unang Balita that his brother-in-law was the one who saw Joanna Mae Andres’ plight, one of the subjects of the viral post and mother of “Baby Batya.” When Cainap saw it, he decided to take pictures from the second floor of his apartment.

Cainap admitted that she only informed Andres of the existence of her photo online when it has gone viral on Facebook, with over five thousand reactions and 12 thousand shares.

Andres divulged that she only did that to her child due to fear of leaving her alone in the house, as she could be scratched by a cat or fall from the stairs.

Tama lang po yung ginawa ko kasi safety po iyan nung baby ko. Ayaw ko po siyang iwan kung saan. At least nakikita ko po siya. Nababantayan ko po kahit may ginagawa ako,” said the mother.

Her partner Charles is a construction worker, and the two of them cannot afford to hire a house help.

Minsan po iniisip ko gusto kong umuwi nang maaga para din po matulungan asawa ko. Pero di ko po magawa kasi po madalas nago-OT po ako,” said Charles.

As Cainap’s post touched many netizens’ hearts, outpour of support for the mother and “Baby Batya” came through. Social media users sent groceries, clothes, and even a stroller for the young kid.
