So-called priest arrested during buy-bust operation in Cavite

A priest was jailed on Thursday, January 25, after being arrested during a buy-bust operation in Bacoor Ciy, Cavite.

Richard Alcantara of the Sacred Order of Saint Michael Congregation was caught selling drugs at Tagumpay Compound, Tabing Dagat, Barangay Alima of the said city.

On the other hand, Bacoor City chief of police Superintendent Vicente Cabatingan clarified that Alcantara is not a member of the Roman Catholic Church.

“Linawin natin. Itong Bishop Ricky Alcantara hindi talaga member ng Roman Catholic (Church). Tiga other congregation siya.”

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) also said that Alcantara is not a member of the organization.

“Richard Alacantara is neither a Catholic bishop nor a priest of the Roman Catholic Church and is certainly not a member of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).”

Alcantara was with a two men when he was captured. 15 sachets of shabu, an improvised tooter, two improvised burners, and other drug paraphernalia were also found at the location.

Cavite Provincial Police Superintendent William Segun said that they are deeply saddened about the incident.

“Nakakalungkot ang pangyayaring ito. Isa siya sa mga tinitingala natin na religious leader ng congregation. Kasama natin dapat sila sa kampanya kontra droga pero iba ang nakita natin sa kaniya. Siya ay naging kalaban natin.”
