Netizen calls out to people smart-shaming “PBB Otso’s” Wakim Regalado

  • A Facebook user defended PBB’s Wakim Regalado against smart shamers.
  • He said that people should just let the housemate express himself the way he wants to and stop telling him offensive words.

Amid the viral videos of Pinoy Big Brother housemate Wakim Regalado, a Facebook user has defended him and called out the people who has smart-shamed the teenager’s intellectual answers.

Katami Alinga Dimapunong stated that he didn’t expect to find himself posting about PBB, however, he can no longer stand some of his friends who kept on smart-shaming the teenager.

He said that it was because he has experienced being smart-shamed by his own math professor when he respectfully pointed out a wrong point in the lecture.

“Then instead of him humbly admitting the evidently incorrect usage of the formula, he said, ‘Sorry naman, o edi sige, ikaw na lang pumalit sa ‘kin dito. Nakakahiya naman sayo.’ Then there goes all the hidden laughs and stares from all my classmates inside the room.”

It is when he realized that words do hurt and that incident affected his self esteem. He said that before, he was really active inside the classroom, but after experiencing it, he became less energetic.

“This is the long-term destructive impact of smart-shaming, it obstructs intellectual growth and it hinders self-actualization.

“I believe this has to stop.”

Dimapunong said that even the simplest offensive terminologies could deeply hurt someone as it is never a compliment. He urged people to let Wakim be if he wants to express himself that way.

“If ever you felt degraded, lacking, and inferior because of the way he intellectually respond to some difficult questions, which you find yourself incapable of answering the same way he beautifully did, hindi yun kasalanan ni Wakim,” he wrote.

He also addressed those who used the topic of sexuality against the housemate.

“I pity you. He is a researcher, a debater, an environmental advocate, a football player, a student leader, a young scientist, and a DOST leadership awardee. I repeat, there is more than just our sexuality.”

Never in my wildest dreams that I am gonna be seeing myself posting something about PBB.But I felt the urge to do so….

Ever since Wakim has entered the PBB house, memes have started appearing as he expressed himself differently than most of the people.
