Mom warns parents to be careful on going down slides with their little ones

  • Netizen warns everyone about the dangers of going down the slides on the playground.
  • She clarified that she is not blaming the slide nor her daughter’s shoes but encourages everyone to be extra cautious.

Playing with children brings joy to even the grumpiest adult on earth. Their smiles and giggles somehow make us forget all our worries and workaday concerns. We make them experience things that would make them giddy with excitement.

This includes letting them play on the playground with other children, alone or even with their parents.

A Facebook user and mom, Kayla Campbell took to social media to warn everyone about the dangers of going down those slides with your child.

She recounted how she and her husband, Matthew went to the playground with their children, Emelyn and Joseph. Matthew let Emelyn sit on his lap so they could go down the slide together.

“This is what me and my husband and all other parents out there does” according to Kayla.

That’s when the unspeakable happened. Emelyn’s foot got caught between the plastic edge of the slide and her dad’s leg resulting to a spiral fracture. She is scheduled to see a pediatric orthopaedist to get a cast.

PSA: Be careful going down slides with little ones on your lap! Matthew and I took Emelyn and Joseph to the playground this evening. As we commonly do (and so do thousands of other parents) we let Emelyn sit on his lap to go down the big slide. It’s her favorite thing to do. But tonight, she had on some cheap rubber shoes I’d picked up from Walmart that resemble Crocs because they’re all she’ll keep on her little feet. As they went down the slide, the shoes gripped the side and her foot got caught between her dad’s leg and the plastic edge. It resulted ultimately in a spiral fracture all the way through her tibia. She’s in a splint now and we’ll see a pediatric orthopaedist soon to get a cast. She’ll be okay after a few months, but I wanted to give everyone a little heads up. Maybe we can help prevent another precious baby from going through this

On her Facebook post on July 18, Kayla gleefully announced that Emelyn is beginning to try to crawl around slowly. According to the Orthopaedist, the cast will be taken off in 4 weeks – this is sooner than what they initially expected.

Kayla also made clear that she is not blaming the shoes, the slide or anyone for what happened. She added that even if her daughter was wearing a different shoe, this incident would have happened nonetheless if we are not extra cautious.
