Last February 11, renowned fashion designer Cary Santiago posted on his Facebook page how he tried to save a dog, which had allegedly suffered from animal cruelty.

In his post, he related how a member of his staff told him that he saw a dog being dragged in front of the house and then thrown into a canal. Santiago immediately asked his staff to go with him to try to pull the dog out.

“I hurried and went to get a towel. I threw the towel towards him and saw tears from his eyes. He helped pull himself up by biting the towel. That’s how intelligent they are even at their lowest times,” Santiago said in his post.

He then rushed the dog to Cebu Veterinary Doctors, but unfortunately, because the animal’s injuries were apparently too massive, the veterinarian could no longer treat them.

“…the doctor said that he can no longer live because of the two wounds he had in his head and in his chest,” Santiago explained. “My heart was in so much pain that euthanasia had to be performed.”

Santiago theorized that the dog was hit by a car and was thrown into the canal so it wouldn’t get in the way of other cars. “…maybe he was hit at first and may have been seen by a passerby who dragged him so as not to be hit by another car and eventually was thrown into the canal,” said Santiago.

Readers of the post praised Santiago for the kind-hearted act, while at the same time, condemned persons who commit acts of animal cruelty.

“It’s so sad to see this act of cruelty to animals!” replied Zelda Danlag. “Thanks for your kind action this pet /dog is not suffering anymore.”

Wella Dyllen, posting from Australia, meanwhile said, “I don’t even know you but I hope you realise what a beautiful human being you are to have tried your best.”

In contrast, netizens had no kind words to spare for those who are cruel to animals.

“I saw this dog cross the street and we slowed down and here comes this crazy driver instead of alowing [sic] down he (im sure he did) intentionally hit the dog,” related Yvonne Salem. “He never stopped till the dog that was stuck under his car was thrown out. I was so shocked i forgot to video it. I fervently wish he would be a dog in his next life ao [sic] he knows.”
