Segovia allegedly got mad after a nine-year-old student photographed him sleeping. After seeing the two students laughing, Segovia asked them to delete the photo and leave the event venue.

Witnesses said that the broadcaster said demeaning words to the victims in front of 400 participants in the workshop.

At one point, Segovia even said: “Kung bastusan lang ang gusto ninyo mag bastusan na tayo.”

(If you want to disrespect me, then let’s disrespect each other.)

A nine-year old Grade 4 pupil at Butuan City SPED Center who was one of the students allegedly humiliated by Segovia claimed that she was just excited to take photos of Segovia and that she wasn’t aware that he appeared to be sleeping in the photo she took.

Meanwhile, Doongan Elementary School Grade 6 adviser Arcelie Cultura said that Segovia even accused the girls of attending the workshop just for snacks. According to Cultura, the participants paid P2,800 each for the workshop, an amount much higher than the price of snacks.

“How dare he say they were just there for the snacks, which they can afford beyond what we paid for the event,” Cultura said.

Offended by the GMA 7 reporter’s remarks, about 80 participants  walked out of the event.

Cheery Ann, mother of one of the victims said: “We filed a police complaint under RA 7610 against Julius Segovia after he publicly humiliated and insulted our nine-year old child and another pupil during the workshop last Saturday. We intend to use this police complaint to file a case in court, as our child was traumatized after the incident. She requested not to go to school because she feels embarrassed about having to face other students.”

Reporter denies accusations

Days after the controversial incident, the GMA 7 broadcaster decided to break his silence and denied all accusations against him.

On Wednesday, July 1, Segovia wrote on his Facebook page: “I categorically deny all accusations hurled against me. It is not in my character to humiliate or abuse children as I also have nephews or nieces that I love dearly.”

  2. Hey! I was one of the participants during the seminar/workshop held at Butuan and Mr. Julius Segovia CLEARLY did not act professionally in his response towards the school children. I feel for the kids who were humiliated as he point his finger towards them. As what you have said “bastusan nato!” well my big fat middle finger goes out to you sir. Bitch!
