There were 125 films shown last year. And most of them were from film festivals like Sinag Maynila, Cine Filipino, Cinemalaya, Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, TOFARM Film Festival, Cinema One Originals, QCinema, and the recently concluded Metro Manila Film Festival.
Despite a number of film festivals, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo‘s The Hows of Us topped the highest grossing film in 2018.
In fact, It was the only Filipino movie that has reached the eight hundred million mark in the Philippine box-office which beaten the previous holder of the top spot, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo‘s A Second Chance.
The movie also held premieres in Indonesia and Vietnam. It was Star Cinema‘s first time to do so in Jakarta.
KathNiel were not just rocking the box-office but the world of fashion as well. They were the cover of METRO Magazine‘s August 2018 issue.
They have been part of ABS-CBN’s line of representatives in the Thailand Network Trade Launch, which is the country’s largest media event. They attended the trade show with Maja Salvador and Jericho Rosales.
The couple has also won the Favorite Foreign TV Actor and Actress award in the Face of the Year Awards in Vietnam.
La Luna Sangre was acquired by MKCS Global became the platform for the show to be aired in Myanmar. She’s Dating the Gangster was also acquired by a Spanish movie channel called Cinelatino.
Last but not the least, aside from the success of their careers, 2018 has also been the mark of the confirmation of Bernardo and Padilla’s real-life romance of more than five years.

Star Cinema’s AdProm manager Mico del Rosario was fuming with anger after spotting a government agency blatantly showing a pirated copy of the Star Cinema movie, A Second Chance.
Del Rosario revealed that he spotted the erring government agency, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), inside Ali Mall playing the video. He took some pictures of the TV screen showing the movie inside the office as evidence of the wrongdoing. Del Rosario posted the snapshots on Facebook, calling out to the management and staff of the government agency that they were blatantly breaking the anti-piracy law by showing the pirated copy of the movie.
After coming out in November 2015, the box office hit starring John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo broke local records, becoming “the highest grossing Filipino film of all time” after hitting the P556 million mark during its fourth week of showing. The movie has yet to be released on home video so what the DFA was showing was definitely not an officially released copy.
Del Rosario also posted about the incident on Twitter which host-comedian Vice Ganda retweeted. Vice called the situation “DISGUSTING” (in angry, capital letters).
This is DISGUSTING!!! Hoy DFA Ali Mall ang garapal nitong ahensya ng gobyerno na ito!!! https://t.co/RQCTx3jRCO

Vice followed it with a tweet that made light of the situation, chiding the office for showing A Second Chance when pirated copies of his movie Beauty and the Bestie with Coco Martin were already available. He ended his tweet with the hashtag “#NoToPiracy”
Langya magpalabas ba ng pirated na A Second Chance e meron namang pirated na Beauty and the Bestie!!! Chozzzz! #NoToPiracy

The Filipino romantic drama A Second Chance has hit blockbuster status by grossing 400 million at the box office just 10 days after opening in theaters. But beyond its phenomenal success, this One More Chance sequel has also influenced some people to give love a second chance. Take for example netizen Chi De Ville who was in an “unideal” relationship. Chi and her boyfriend decided to give their relationship a break and mutually agreed to be just friends until they saw the movie starring John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.
Chi, then said in her post:
For the past few weeks, i can feel that our relationship is falling apart. Sometimes, i feel alone eventhough we’re together. Just yesterday, i had all the intentions of breaking up with him. I asked him to meet me and talk about it. He felt the need to let me go because he can see that i was getting hurt and disappointed by what we have become. The ‘talk’ was somewhat blurry but we both agreed to stay as friends.
We watched #ASecondChance after our conversation. Tinamaan kaming dalawa sa mga scenes and hugot lines. We were both crying as the movie ended. Then, we talked some more. That movie really helped us understand each other’s feelings and sacrifices. I realized that he was getting hurt, too. While i was busy pointing out his shortcomings, i didn’t realize that at some point, may pagkukulang din ako. Bottom line is, we are not perfect. We will struggle, we will have fights, we will make decisions and we will surpass emotional battles. I know we can, just as long as we are together. I love him and that will never change.
If you guys are going through some tough times with your partners, try to watch the movie. It will give you a whole new perspective.
After watching the movie, Chi and her boyfriend gave their relationship a second chance. On a final note, she also recommends that couples who are going through challenges to watch the movie so they will see their relationship in a whole new perspective.
