Ogie Diaz questions Zaldy Co’s medical treatment in the U.S.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. previously identified Co’s family among those linked to the Top 15 contractors said to have cornered billions worth of projects.

Showbiz insider and talent manager Ogie Diaz raised eyebrows over the recent revelation that Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co is currently in the United States for medical treatment.

In his Facebook post on Thursday, Sept. 4, Diaz wondered why the lawmaker had to seek treatment abroad.

“Ah so hindi kaya ng mga best treatments dito sa Pinas?” Diaz asked.

House spokesperson Atty. Princess Abante earlier confirmed Co’s whereabouts in a press briefing.
“I made an initial inquiry sa Office of the Secretary General. Sa pagkakaalam ko, he’s currently out of the country,” Abante said.

“I understand na sa United States siya for medical treatment with appropriate travel documents. Kung ano yung mga travel documents na ‘yon, wala pa kong copy,” she added.

Co, a former chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, stepped down from his post citing health reasons. His name, however, has also surfaced in connection with alleged irregularities in government flood control projects.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. previously identified Co’s family among those linked to the Top 15 contractors said to have cornered billions worth of projects.

The controversy widened after Co’s niece, content creator Claudine Co, drew public ire for flaunting a lavish lifestyle on social media, sparking further scrutiny of their family’s wealth.

As of writing, neither Co nor his office has issued a statement in response to Diaz’s remarks.
