Mental health advocate accused of bullying beatbox performer at Anilag Festival 2023

A few performances later, Van Plata joked that the mic Flores used was being sanitized because none of the other contestants wanted to use it.

Academic researcher Linus Van Plata has gone viral after making fun of a performer at the Anilag Festival 2023 on March 15.

The festival has a talent show called ‘Anilag Got Talent’ and this year was hosted by Linus Van Plata, a teacher who founded ‘The Linus Van Plata School of English.’

During the show, Jerico Flores of Santa Cruz showcased his beatboxing skills that entertained the crowd.

However, Van Plata decided to clown Flores.

A few performances later, Van Plata joked that the mic Flores used was being sanitized because none of the other contestants wanted to use it.

“Wala pong gustong gumamit ng mikropono dahil parang napunuan ng kalawayan,” Van Plata joked.

“Actually, isesend sana namin sa DOH ‘eh pero idederecho na namin sa World Health Organization,” he continued.

Flores then commented that he didn’t understand why the host had made a joke out of him. The beatboxer claimed that he was too ashamed to leave his house.

“Nawalan po ako ng gana sa lahat. Kahit guest at invite nawala po sakin,” he said in a response.

Netizens felt like Van Plata was being a bully and called him out on social media.

Apparently, Van Plata is also a mental health advocate. He spoke about the importance of mental health two years ago in an interview uploaded to Facebook.
