Responses to Rodante Marcoleta’s criticism of the San Juanico Bridge lights

During an episode of Net 25’s Sa Ganang Mamamayan, Marcoleta expressed concern on the use of the lighting as people are struggling to pay their electric bills

Netizens were astounded that former UniTeam Senate slate member SAGIP Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta questioned the timing of the “aesthetic lighting” of the San Juanico Bridge that connects Leyte and Samar islands.

Marcoleta expressed concern about the use of lighting during an episode of Net 25’s Sa Ganang Mamamayan, saying that people are struggling to pay their electric bills and that energy should be conserved rather than wasted.

The aesthetic lighting is used to boost tourism in Leyte and Samar as well as nearby areas.

Last October 19, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. led the lighting ceremony for the 49-year-old Santa Rita Bridge in Leyte.

Marcoleta compared San Juanico Bridge to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco which he said does not need lights to attract people.  He can only hope that the lights do their job and attract tourists.

He revealed that the price of electricity at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) has steadily been climbing over the past few months. He said the price was P7.26 per kilowatt hour (kWh) in August, P9.17 per kWh in September, and P9.31 per kWh in October.

Marcoleta claimed that electricity costs more in that part of the Visayas than in Luzon.

Netizens had a lot to say about Marcoleta’s criticism.
