Anti-Marcos netizens liken Bongbong Marcos to mouth ulcer in parody hashtag

Netizens likened him to the condition because just like a mouth ulcer, no matter how many remedies you take, it keeps on coming back for some reason

People who oppose the former senator Bongbong Marcos’ decision to run for the presidency have hijacked the #BBMSigawNgBayan by making a parody of the hashtag.

Out of all the aspirants, Marcos is arguably the most favored to win the top position in the country in next year’s national elections, at least based on social media activity. His supporters firmly believe that he is the only one capable of making the Philippines progress, hence #BBMSigawNgBayan.

But anti-Marcos netizens decided to poke fun at the hashtag by changing the word “sigaw” to “singaw.”

Singaw in English translates to canker sore or mouth ulcer. Netizens likened him to the condition because, just like a mouth ulcer, no matter how many remedies you take, it keeps on coming back for some reason.

Marcos lost the vice presidential race to fellow presidential aspirant Leni Robredo in 2016. All his petitions to overturn the election results failed.

Here are some examples using the original hashtag.

Despite having relatively fewer accomplishments in politics, his popularity among the youth cannot be denied.

The parody hashtag could’ve started because a pro-Marcos Twitter account misspelled sigaw.

The post went viral and netizens capitalized on it.
