Lauren Dyogi and Bianca Gonzalez on whether ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ is just an “artista search”

Some of those who failed to have a career in the show business after leaving the house actually saw their lives change for the better

Direk Lauren Dyogi and Bianca Gonzalez believe ABS-CBN’s longest-running reality show Pinoy Big Brother is more than just an “artista search.”

In a media conference, Dyogi admitted that the show has produced a lot of stars but is really more about the “different dreamers” in the country.

“Ang daming nagsasabi na talent search daw po ang PBB. Marami po talagang sumisikat kasi maraming sumusubaybay sa mga housemates, but it’s not a talent search alone.” he said.

“It’s a representation of the different Filipinos, different dreamers,” he added.

Dyogi is currently the head director of PBB.

The program has produced Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, James Reid, Robi Domingo, Beauty Gonzalez, Ejay Falcon, Melai Cantiveros, Barbie Imperial, Heaven Peralejo, and Joshua Garcia.

Some of those who failed to have a career in the show business after leaving the house actually saw their lives change for the better.

“Swerte kami na maraming sumisikat pero mas marami rin naman ang nabago ang buhay kahit hindi pumasok sa larangan ng show business.

“They would become successful in their own fields, meron kaming mga doctor na ngayon, meron kaming professionals na nasa ibang panig ng mundo.

“So, hindi lang siguro nakasiwalat ang buhay nila, but a lot of housemates have become popular in different fields. And they have become more confident about themselves, and they’ve ventured into a lot of different opportunities.” he said.

Bianca Gonzalez, the show host and was a contestant in PBB: Celebrity Edition 1, backed Dyogi’s remarks.

“Naku, puro magaganda at guwapo na naman kukunin.

“I think time and time again, season after season, bonus para sa amin iyong biglang may sisikat at magshu-showbiz after.

“Pero kapag kina-cast iyong mga housemates, hindi iyon iyong goal.” she said.

Gonzalez explained that becoming a celebrity after the show has concluded is already a “bonus.”

“Ang top priority talaga is trying to get iyong good mix.

“Ito, lagi rin sinasabi ito ni Direk Lauren na kahit papaano, TV show pa rin siya kaya may napapasok pa rin na maganda at guwapo. Which is also, by the way, relative kung ano iyong maganda at guwapo, ha.

“Pero iyon talaga, bonus na lang iyong nagiging artista sila after. Kasi there are so many housemates din na good-looking na hindi naman pinursue iyong showbiz after.

“It’s not an artista search, but I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing na may mga nagbabago ang buhay at nagiging mga Kim Chiu at Melai Cantiveros after the season.” she said.

The tenth season of PBB will include celebrities, adults, and teens. Auditions will be held via Kumu starting September 1.
