UP denies any links with academic fraud Kathleen Joy Poblete

The university explained that Poblete has no record in the university

A certain Kathleen Joy Poblete has been exposed as a fraud following her claim of being a University of the Philippines (UP) graduate.

Poblete was invited to speak at the graduation program of Ramona S. Tirona Memorial High School in Dasmarinas. In the video, her academic achievements were laid out.

It said she took up political science at the Cavite State University and became a dean’s lister. The university then helped her enter the University of the Philippines Manila, where she graduated cum laude and left with a law degree.

However, UP Manila denied having any information on Poblete, saying she has claimed to be a summa cum laude graduate of UP Manila’s Political Science Program and a recipient of the Juris Doctor’s Award and Best in Research Award granted by the UP Manila College of Law.

UP explained that Poblete has no record in the university. In addition, UP College of Law is located in the Diliman campus, not Manila.

“There has only been one Summa Cum laude from the UP Manila Political Science Program—Ms. Georgina Mia B. Gato—who graduated in 2019. We do not have any Juris Doctor’s Award or Best in Research Award,” the university said.

“The University is currently investigating this matter and is coordinating with all institutions involved,” it added.

Cavite State University also came out with a statement, saying Poblete took up political science for only three semesters but never finished.

Netizens noted that Poblete ran for a position in the youth council in 2018.
