Mylene Dizon remembers attending rally after ABS-CBN shutdown as a Kapuso

Her anger last year at the decision of a congressional panel to reject ABS-CBN’s bid for franchise renewal is just as strong today

Mylene Dizon remains proud of the day she showed her support for ABS-CBN by attending a rally while still being in contract with the GMA Network.

When asked what her thoughts are a year after ABS-CBN was shut down, Dizon said she’ll continue fighting for the company.

“Hanggang ngayon malaking kawalan pa rin dahil a big chunk of our company is still not operating. I am still naiinis about it. I am still going to fight with ABS-CBN para maibalik yun.

“We are all willing to work dahil kasama natin yung mga kasamahan natin sa ABS-CBN and kailangan nating mag kapit bisig para magkaroon tayo ng trabaho for the entire company.” she said during a media conference of My Sunset Girl, a new series Dizon is appearing in.

She keeps on working to someone help everyone who was affected by the shutdown.

“We’re not just doing it for ourselves. I’m not doing this for myself, I’m doing it for everybody.

“It’s not something to laugh about. I’ve been with ABS for 25 years. Kailangan magtutulungan na lang tayo para lahat tayo happy.”

Her anger last year at the decision of a congressional panel to reject ABS-CBN’s bid for franchise renewal is just as strong today.

“I’m still very, very pissed about what happened a year ago. Yung galit ko noon hanggan ngayon pareho pa rin yung level.”

Her support for the entertainment industry was evident when she rallied with Kapamilyas shortly after ABS-CBN was taken off the air. She surprised a lot of people because she did it while working on a GMA Network project.

“At the time, I was with another network finishing a project with them. I was with them. I joined the rally. I stood outside the station, I sang with them. Tinaas ko yung kamao for ABS-CBN.

“Sumugod kami from Cavite talagang pumunta kami. I’ve been with ABS-CBN for [25] years so ang tagal tagal ko na dun. Yung mga nakakatrabaho ko ngayon from cameraman, gaffer, yung staff, yung crew, basta lahat yan matagal ko na silang kaibigan.” she recalled.

Dizon is most of the time the antagonist on TV, and she has simple advice at playing a good one.

An actor should understand what kind of attitude the antagonist has and just “attack the character.”

“Studying the script and trying to find different ways to attack the character, to portray the character kasi minsan mahirap gawin ng madalian.”

The character should also have a background because without it the delivery would come out stale.

“Yung paghihimay ng script maging thorough and you have to put backstories to your characters kasi kung wala, parang magiging ampaw yung character.

“It’s not easy lalo na pag gumagawa ka ng soap. Nagrerely na lang sa pag gagawa mo ng research or imagination mo kung sa ano ba ang naging kwento ng character mo.” she said.

My Sunset Girl is the latest from the iWantTFC Original Series and is set to premiere on July 14 online.
