David Licauco admits that he was challenged to keep his businesses afloat amid the pandemic

He admitted that he did fight hard to keep one of his businesses running.

Young star David Licauco opened up about his struggles as a businessman as the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country and how he motivated himself to fight for it.

During his online media conference upon his renewal as a Kapuso star, Licauco was asked if he faced any hurdles with the pandemic. He admitted that he did fight hard to keep one of his businesses running even though it was not profitable.

It’s all because he prioritized their employees and how they’ve grown closer to his heart.

“I also have a gym in Taft. Actually yun yung first ever business ko back in 2017. Sobrang nahirapan kami dun kasi pandemic nga. Bawal mag gym [kasi] siyempre sa gym medyo close contact talaga especially it’s a boxing gym pa,” said Licauco.

“Pero talagang [nag make sure ako] na hindi siya isarado kasi yung mga employees namin parang napamahal na rin samin. So it was really hard for me to close the gym kahit wala na siyang profits. Right now, we’re surviving nalang talaga.”

Licauco also needed to make one of his businesses online-based as the current situation hinders the chances of it having a physical store.

“So right now since pandemic nga, hindi feasible magtayo ng physical store like everything is leaning towards online. Actually, pag online nga, mas less cost pa eh.”

One of his motivations when running his businesses is the phrase “Every crisis comes to an opportunity”. It applies it to his ventures like Turk’s, Sobra Comfort Food, 25th Burgers – which he established in partnership with actor Marvin Agustin, a milk tea place, and a gym.

“Six na yung mga ginawa ko. Nagru-run pa naman lahat yun,” he proudly said.

Though he has businesses serving different products, he admitted that he wasn’t the business-minded type when he was younger.

“Growing-up, honestly, more of basketball talaga ako tapos hindi ko pa iniisip yung future ko nun. Medyo happy-go-lucky akHe o nung college. Ako yung tipong guy na di nag-aaral, di pumapasok, laging tulog… So nakakatawa lang na ngayon, parang lagi akong meditated, laging nag-iisip. Di ko lang inexpect na magiging ganito ako.”

On the other hand, his showbiz career is what’s in the front seat. Though he has yet to confirm his future projects, Licauco shared that he has no restrictions on what he wants to showcase in the future.

“Wala naman akong restrictions as long as my managers would see na okay yun for my career and yung GMA network tingin nila na okay yung for me kasi, tiwala [naman ako sa kanila]. I would do it.”

But as of now, the young star aired out that he still wants to stick to the more wholesome genres.

“Pero right now sana, I wanna maximize my youth. Mejo pa-cute muna ng konti. Siguro in a few years baka pwede na akong mag sexy [concepts].”
