Mayor Vico Sotto slams former PBA player for cursing at frontliners

An ex-PBA player was slammed by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto for allegedly cursing a member of the local government unit who was distributing goods in the area.

  • Sotto gave a hint saying that his basketball player used to be his brother-in-law’s teammate.
  • The incident said to have happened in Greenpark Village in Pasig.

Pasig City mayor Vico Sotto failed to contain his disappointment over the incident of a former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player who cursed at personnel of the city government who were distributing relief goods to those affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Sotto expressed his annoyance during a Facebook live, saying that the said ex-PBA player was a teammate of his brother-in-law Marc Pingris, who is his sister Danica’s husband.

The mayor added that this basketball player used to be his idol. The incident happened at Greenpark Village.

“Merong isang instance, taga-Greenpark. Siguro naliitan dun sa ano pinapamigay. Alam ko naman may kaya ‘yung tao na ‘yun, dating PBA player… Minura-mura ‘yung team leader natin, bakit daw ganun lang ‘yung pinamimigay,” Sotto said.

He also aired his disbelief of this person’s sense of entitlement.

“‘Yung sense of entitlement ng ibang tao, grabe talaga. Ito mga frontliners natin na nagpapagod, over beyond the call of duty tapos mumura-murahin ng taong ‘yun? Nagpipigil lang ako, gusto ko banggitin ‘yung pangalan niya eh.”

Netizens reacted to the incident with some curiosity about the identity of the PBA player.

“Kung may reklamo kayo pwede nyo naman sabihin sa maayos na paraan. Hindi nyo kailangan magalit sa kanila,” Mayor Sotto said.
