Sweet but deadly: Study shows sugary drinks can lead to early death

  • New research says drinking sugary sodas can actually lead to early death
  • Both men and women have a high risk of dying from cancer and cardiovascular diseases
  • Drinking less soda is a good move and a healthy choice

How many bottles of soda can you consume in a day? A study shows too much drinking of soda can actually shorten your life.

We are aware that both sugar-sweeteners and artificial sweetened sugar can cause diabetes and obesity, but new research says drinking sugary sodas can actually lead to an early death.

The researcher shows that people who drink two or more sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) in a day such sodas, sports drinks, and fruit drinks sweetened with sugar, high–fructose corn syrup, or fruit concentrates have higher chances of dying early than those who rarely drink SSB.

They have gathered data over 100,000 men and women for 30 years to show that men who drank two sodas a day had a 29 percent risk and women had a 63 percent higher risk of death. And 34 percent of women who usually drank two or more soda a day have a higher risk of dying from breast cancer.

And both man and women have 31 percent were more likely to die of cardiovascular disease, and 18 percent would die of cancer. This was shown in a study published in the American Heart Association journal, Circulation.

The researcher has recommended drinking more than one soda a month but less than two sodas a day was healthier but still risky.

Their analogy was the “risk increased as the amount of sugary sodas increased” as it describes as “a graded association with dose.” Still, the result showed that drinking less soda was a good move and a healthy choice.

Being aware of the side effects of sugary drinks, most consumers had switched soda for sparkling water, which was not readily available years ago. Turning down the soda for most consumers wasn’t that easy, knowing that sugar is very addictive.

Of course, replacing soda with seltzer isn’t just a matter of making a smart choice. Research has established just how addictive sugar is. So for many consumers, it’s not as simple as making the choice to put down the soda.

But maybe this research will help people to choose and drink more water.
