A proud PWD graduate shares his graduation photo yet received discrimination on social media

  • Despite having a disability, he was able to finish his studies
  • He had proven that being different from others is not a hindrance to reach your dream
  • Some people were just making fun of him as a person having disability

Each of us is unique in our way. But there are people, despite being kind-hearted, who proudly present their achievements. Yet, there are still people who would discriminate an individual because of a disability.

Like a new graduate, Joseph Alcano Anggot, who proudly shared his graduation picture. Despite having a disability, he was able to finish his studies, as he captioned the post with, “Hindi hadlang ang aking kapansanan tungo sa aking pangarap.”

He is now a graduate of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics from the Western Mindanao State University External Studies Unit – Molave.

Joseph also thanked the people who had supported him, especially his mother, three siblings, ten nieces, and a nephew, and to his father who’s already in heaven. His success, of being a graduate student in college, was the gift that he can offer to them.

“To my Papa, na sumalangit na, my Mama, 3 ko pang kapatid, sa 10 kong pamangkin, mga kaibigan at sa mga kapamilya at kapuso na patuloy na sumubaybay 😂 ito lang po ang aking regalo sa inyo 😍 Maraming salamat po 🎓”

His post went viral because of the inspiration he shared with the people. He had proven that being different from others, because of a disability, was not a hindrance to reach your dream. It is a matter of acceptance and determination to achieve something in life. Being a future teacher, he would inspire his future students.

His profile picture had already garnered 20 thousand shares and 131 thousand reactions but not all are happy with his achievement. Out of 11 thousand comments, some were just making fun of him as being a person having a disability.

Because of the discrimination he received, there were people who wanted to call the attention of those people who insensitively discriminated him.

And one of them politely asked for an apology.

Through social media, Joseph had been known because of his perseverance to finish his studies but it was really sad that he also received discrimination from the netizens.

All of us are protected by our right and laws, which means no one has the right to discriminate a person, for we are all equal in the eyes of the Creator.
